Los sustantivos derivados se forman como resultado de una modificación de la palabra original.
Los sustantivos derivados: Los sustantivos derivados se componen de un verbo, adjetivo, u otra
palabra a los que se le añade un sufijo. La sustantivación derivada es muy común en español al
igual que en inglés.
En inglés tenemos tres sufijos comunes que usamos para transformar un adjetivo en un
sustantivo.
El sufijo -ity o -y (después de una t) se añade a varios adjetivos de origen latino y es equivalente
a -dad o -idad en español.

LOS GERUNDIOS:
Los gerundios (o gerunds) son sustantivos creados añadiendo el sufijo -ing al infinitivo de
verbos. Por ejemplo:
eat
eating I like eating. Me gusta comer.

swim
swimming Swimming is fun. Es divertido nadar.
(nadar)
Los verbos que terminan en -ing en inglés pueden funcionar como gerundios (I like swimming.
/Estoy nadando), los cuales son una parte de las formas verbales progresivas (presente
continuo).
Los sustantivos cero-derivados son sustantivos que se componen de un verbo, adjetivo, u otra
palabra que no cambia.

Los sustantivos cero-derivados sin cambio son palabras que se pueden usar como verbo o
sustantivo sin que la palabra sufra modificaciones en la escritura o la pronunciación. Por
ejemplo:
Por otra parte, los sustantivos cero-derivados con cambio de pronunciación son palabras que se
pueden usar como verbo o como sustantivo sin ningún cambio escrito pero con un cambio de
acento u otro cambio de pronunciación.
En los siguientes ejemplos con cambio de pronunciación, la sílaba con el acento está en negrita.
Fíjate que el acento siempre está en la primera sílaba cuando actúa como verbo y en la segunda
cuando actúa como sustantivo.
