2 Why Peace Failed

Instructions: Answer Question #1-3

1. Study Sources A and B. How far do these two sources agree? Explain
your answer using details of the sources. [7]
The two sources agree with each other at some point. However, there are a
slight contradiction in perspective of Source A and B. Both sources told us that,
Hitler did not want to gambler to start a war with Britain and France. In source A,
even though Hitler was preparing the military forces in general, historians pointed
out that in short term, he definitely did not want to start a fight with these two
empires. In support to that, source B quoted Hitler’s saying that “Now the
probability is great that the West will not intervene”, to promise that he would not
threaten the British Empire. Both sources also agree that Hitler was having
miscalculation by being so sure that Britain and France will not come up with a
war against Germany. Source A was questioning Hitler how did Germany end up
in fighting with two powerful empire instead of just invading Poland while source
B told us that Hitler assumption on Britain and France was a mistake, therefore,
he has put himself in the situation that he did not prepare for. The difference
between two source is that source B told us Hitler was preparing the armies not
to start a war but only to make Germany stronger while source A told us that
Hitler determination was way bigger than just it.
2. Study Source C. Why was this cartoon published in July 1938? Explain
your answer using details of the source and your knowledge. [8]

The cartoon was the sarcastic of how Britain being ignorance toward other countries in the
USSR as well as the alliances. By reading the tittle of the drawing, we can already see that from
Britain’s point of view, as long as their country is safe, nothing is important to them, even the
freedom of other countries. By signing the Munich Agreement, even though it was a betrayal,
they didn’t risk a war to protect Czechoslovakia as they promised, but the rest of the Europe
was relief, and Chamberlain was welcome back as a hero, leaving the “stones” in the pictures
(which represent France as alliance, Romania, Poland and Czechoslovakia) behind in anger.
3. Study Sources D and E. Does Source D make Source E surprising?
Explain your answer using details of the sources and your knowledge. [8]
Source D did make source E surprising as in source D, the Munich agreement
was planned to brings peace, that every problem will be solved upon agreeing
with each other, but instead, source E said that signing the agreement was
“passing and awful milestone” and “the peace has been overturned”. It was the
symbol of ignorance of the powerful countries to Czechoslovakia, that Czech has
been reduced from a position of safety and power. However, both sources agree
upon that, the agreement was the start of the future fate, whether it is good or
not, it was opening a new gate for the future world
