UPPER LAKE

The oldest manmade lake in the country, it


is known as Bada Talaab or the big lake.
The Lake is constructed on the Kolas River
and it is believed that King Bhoj’s skin
disease was cured by the huge lake he built. With a catchment area of over
36 sq km, the lake is the main source of potable water for Bhopal. The lake
is a favourite with water sport enthusiasts. The Upper Lake(commonly
called as “Bada talab” is one of the major tourist spot in Bhopal.Since it’s
very big in size, you can enjoy it’s view from different places, To name few-
VIP road, Kamla Park, Sair Sapata, and the most beautiful- Lake View and
Van Vihar. Bhopal is referred to as the "city of lakes" since it has several
lakes. The Upper Lake, which is located to the west of Bhopal, is the most
notable of these. The Upper Lake, also known as Bhojtal, was developed in
the eleventh century CE by Raja Bhoj of the Paramara dynasty.
GAUHAR MAHAL
Gohar Mahal also known as Gauhar Mahal is a
splendid mansion of historical significance
situated on the VIP road of Bhopal in the state of
Madhya Pradesh. It is rightly located on the bank
of Upper Lake. Gohar Mahal was built in a
successful manner by Qudisiya Begum in 1820.
She is the first woman ruler of Bhopal. She is
popularly known as Gohar Begum.It is a best
example of the perfect amalgamation of exquisite
Mughal and excellent Hindu architecture.In this
city, it is the most sought after place for hosting different types of cultural events,
promotional and art exhibition and colorful fairs. It is one of the prominent tourist
destinations for domestic and foreign tourists throughout the year.A majestic look is still
retained by the archways of the palace. It is considered as an architectural gem of the
state. This palace is one of the finest examples of archeological excellence of past era.
The naming convention of this Mahal came from her name. This palace is a symbol of
communal harmony. Qudisiya Begum was a great admirer of art and architecture. The
interior and exterior of the palace is really stunning with its designs, decorations and
religious patterns.
IQBAL MAIDAAN

This is actually an open area


in front of the Moti Mahal.
The Moti mahal was built by
Kudesia Begum who ruled
between 1819-1837. A large
gateway connected this palace to the Shaukat Mahal . The open
area in front , now called Iqbal Maidan was used for ceremonial
parades and other important royal functions.
SADAR MANZIL
Located at the heart of the walled
city, Sadar Manzil is a royal building
that used to be the hall of public
audience for the rulers of Bhopal. The
monument is set amidst picturesque
and well-laid out gardens and reflects
Oriental traces of architecture.
Legend has it that the nawabs of the city would meet w ith the masses
here, and address them on important occasions. After Independence,
the lovely building was abandoned and fell into ruin for some time
before being restored. However, the charm of the Sadar Manzil has
withstood the test of time, and even toda y one can see intricate
carvings in the ceilings and archways that hint at its former grandeur
and opulence. It’s a must-visit for lovers of history, and has some
great spots for photography as well. Sadar Manzil lies in close
proximity to the beautiful Sh aukat Mahal.
SHAUKAT MAHAL

At a distance of 4 km from Bhopal Junction, Shaukat


Mahal is a historical structure located in Bhopal, Madhya
Pradesh. Situated at the entrance to the Chowk area, it is
one of the most unique architectural marvels of Bhopal,
and among the top places to visit in Bhopal.Shaukat
Mahal was constructed in the 1830s as a wedding gift for
Sikander Jehan Begum, the first full-fledged female ruler
of Bhopal. It is an integral part of the famous royal
quadrangle of Bhopal around the Iqbal Maidan, earlier
known as Khirniwala Maidan. Architecturally it is a bit of an oddity compared to other buildings in the
heart of Bhopal, the building has many western elements combining both Post Renaissance and Gothic
styles. This is due to the design being attributed to the Bourbons of Bhopal, widely considered to be
descendants of renowned French kings.Built with a mix of Indian-Islamic and European Styles, the roof of
the building is adorned with a series of complicated triangular-shaped arches and the exteriors have
beautiful patterns, showing artistic brilliance. Shaukat Mahal is towered by the grand Sadar Manzil, which
is believed to have served as the hall of public audience, back in the era of kings. Surrounded by lush
green gardens on all sides, the red-colored hall has been built in a grandiose and has an ostentatious
appearance.
RANI KAMLPATI MAHAL

Kamalapati Palace is located on the bridge, between the larger and the
smaller lake of Bhopal. Built in 1722, it is named after Rani Kamlapati the
widow Gond ruler of Nizam
Shah, Chief of Ginnorgarh. The
Palace has been designated as
a Monument of National
Importance by the
Archaeological Survey of India .
The palace is an 18th-century
secular architecture built of
lacquered bricks, arched on raised
pillars. Raja Bhoj built the palace
on the huge wall of the dam separating the two lakes. The palace has been
designated as a monument of national importance by the Archaeological Survey of
India. Kamalapati Mahal is a two-storey building constructed of lacquered bricks, with
arched arches supported on curved pillars, lotus petal -shaped marlas and balconies
supporting the balconies.

OUTDOOR SHOOTING:

While covering throughout many historical


places in Bhopal we learned about different
angles of photography by using vertical and
horizontal angles and capture narrow and wide
background. we also learned how to use low
lighting in high temperature (sunlight) and adjust
the lighting and increase the light during taking
picture in dark areas. Angles of taking pictures
helped us to learn capture the legacy and beauty
of historical places. We learned about different
tools of mobile camera and took wonderful
pictures.
EVENT MANAGEMENT:

On 23rd November ‘THE SAGE SCHOOLOF


JOURNALISM AND MASS
COMMUNICATION’ conducted a
educational,cultural and heritage
photowalk. The photowalk was well
organised and executed as the
responsibilities were properly and equally
divided to the students by the facility
members. The time management was so
stable and punctual as we departed and
entered the campus within time with the
bus. The faculty members were very
helpful as they guided us throughout
.Refreshments were also given to all and
proper discipline was maintained.
