GOALS
To invite businessmen and professionals to a new way of life.
I. DYNAMICS
A. The entire team is responsible for making the participants feel at home.
B. The BCLP Course Director should personally welcome the participants as they finish registering.
C. The Discussion Group Leaders should actively set a pleasant, friendly and outgoing atmosphere
among the participants assigned to their group.
REMINDERS:
• Do not accept last-minute applications.
• The maximum number of participants in one BCLP is eighty (80) participants.
(Please refer to copy of memo on sponsoring of candidates which appears in another
section of this manual.)
• The maximum number of participants in one discussion group is six (6) participants.
• Since it is the first time the participants will be registering, it will usually take a little
longer than usual. Most, if not all, of the service team should be available to welcome
the participants and to be ready to answer questions.
• If questions asked are relative to a subject that is to be given, remind the BCLP
Team to answer simply, advising the participants that this subject will be further
discussed in the talks.

The BCLP Manual 2.1. The Orientation Session
Now, let’s spend some time together in our discussion groups, talk and share with
one another to get to know each other a little bit more.
(Give the discussion groups 45 minutes for the introduction and sharing by the
participants.)
Brothers and sisters, The Brotherhood Christian Life Program is always successful. I will
repeat, however, that the result of your own personal success will depend largely on your
cooperation. The Lord will send His graces in abundance in order to help you out, but the
end result is dependent on how you avail of these graces.
I must warn you also that one important ingredient for the success of your BCLP is
proper disposition. Don’t prejudge the BCLP. Instead, open your hearts and minds and
allow the Holy Spirit to work in you. Have faith in what the Lord Jesus has planned for
you.

GOALS
To capture nominal Christians’ interest in Jesus and Christianity by
helping them understand the basic Christian message
(what Jesus has done and will do for them)
I. DYNAMICS
First impressions are lasting impressions. This is the reason why this first session should run smoothly.
All eyes and attention will focus on the DGL. The participants may base their judgment of the BCLP on
how their DGL serves his group. Much of the success of the BCLP, therefore, lies on the shoulders of the
DGL. He must set an example in the way he prays, how he takes notes of the talk and leads the
discussion.
REMINDER: The BCLP Course Director will decide whether participants who were not present
during the Orientation Session will be allowed to participate.
a. Remind the BCLP Team that they should be very active in setting a friendly, outgoing and
relaxed tone.
b. If there are participants who have arrived, instruct all Music Ministry and Prayer Warriors
to proceed to the session hall to meet and stay with the participants.
c. Remind all DGLs that first impressions are lasting impressions. This is why this first
session should run smoothly. All eyes and attention will focus on the DGL. The participants
may base their judgment of the BCLP on how their DGL serves his group. Much of the
success of the BCLP, therefore, lies on the shoulders of the DGL. He must set an

a. Encourage all of the participants to take an active, rather than a passive role, because
God will be at work in their lives.
b. Motivate them to make the next four weeks a special time to seek God by deciding to
attend each BCLP session, taking daily time to pray and to read the bible. Tell them to
expect God to show Himself and His love for them over the next four weeks.
c. After the 4th session, they will have a better understanding of what the BCLP is all about
and will be in a position to judge whether they wish to continue with the BCLP.
Until such time, request them to open their minds and remove any bias they may have.
In the meantime give the BCLP an opportunity to work.

GOALS
To penetrate deeply into the truths of our faith
in order to arrive at a clear and fundamental understanding of God,
who is the foundation of this faith
I. DYNAMICS
This session should describe God in an enthusiastic way that pulls on people’s hearts, stretches their
imagination, and draws them to God with awe and thanksgiving for who He is and what He has done.
God is good for what He has done for us.
One of the items that this talk will focus on is that God hates the sin but not the sinner.

is available through a fuller reception of the Holy Spirit
I. DYNAMICS
A. By this time, attendance is more regular and people are beginning to be drawn together.
B. Now would be the opportune time to set up praying partners, where they pray for each other at
home. The process of starting them to pray for situations and needs is to begin at this stage.

During your discussion, it might help to think of the Holy Spirit either
• As a sculptor that is transforming raw material (plaster of Paris / clay) into a
beautiful piece of sculpture, or
• As a diamond cutter, delicately chipping away at a rough piece of stone until it
becomes a beautiful multi-faceted gem.
The Holy Spirit dwells in each one of us, waiting for us to allow Him to shape us, to
change us and to make us become more and more like Christ. He works in us to make
us behave as any son or daughter of God should behave — with love, joy, peace,
patience, kindness goodness faithfulness, humility and self-control.
You know that you are filled with Christ’s Holy Spirit when, despite all the troubles and problems
you face, you are able to behave with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,
goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control.
Page 12 The Course Directors Kit August 2000 The BCLP Manual

The BCLP Manual 2.2. Module I: The Basic Truths
About Christianity
You behave this way because deep down in your heart you know and believe
• That God loves you,
• That Jesus has saved you, and
• That the Holy Spirit dwells in you.
By behaving so, you believe that this is really a manifestation of Christ living in you and of
you reflecting the image of God, behaving as His own sons and daughters.
Look at all of us who serve you. The people around you are people with problems. Some of
them even have deep, serious problems.
But they are not showing you any masks or pretenses because of their firm belief that
nothing can separate them from the love of Jesus Christ, through the power of the Holy
Spirit.

We will now talk about two dimensions of our loving response to God who has been so
good and so merciful to us — FAITH and REPENTANCE. These are two different but
inseparable topics. You cannot have faith without repentance and vice versa. If you
believe in the loving plan of the Lord for you, then you will truly be repentant of your sins.
Before I call on our speaker, I have one simple request. Our speaker will talk about the
sinfulness of man. Most likely, he will also talk about his own personal sinfulness. My
request is that when we start talking about sin, PLEASE KEEP YOUR EYES ON YOURSELF.
Each one of us is a sinner. Let’s not waste our time thinking about how much more sinful
our neighbor is, how bad our husband / boyfriend is, or how hopeless is our boss’
situation. This talk is meant for each one of us personally. So let’s take a long
and hard look at our own selves.
Before you break up into your discussion groups, let me say a few things about Faith
and Repentance to help set the direction for your discussions.
i. ON FAITH
Ask yourselves: Is it really possible to for me to say I believe in God, in Jesus
Christ and in the Holy Spirit if
• I do not listen to what the Lord says in scripture?
• I do not believe the promises He has made?
The BCLP Manual August 2000 The Course Directors Kit Page 15
2. The Course Directors Kit
The BCLP Manual 2.2. Module I: The Basic Truths
About Christianity
ii. ON REPENTANCE
Many of us might have difficulty with this aspect of repentance. It could be that
either
• Our problems are too heavy, or
• We do not want to accept we have problems, or
• All we see are the sins of others.
Some of us may not be guilty of serious sins; but honestly, how many of us will not
succumb if given the circumstances of poverty, of insecurity, of family conflicts?
Will we not perhaps choose to serve our own selfish interest, boost our inflated egos,
or take the path of least resistance?
Observe yourself, for instance, when
* a jeepney driver cuts into your lane, or
* when an associate or a subordinate is late for an appointment with you, or
* your maid forgets to inform you about an important phone call.
These are little quirks but are they not reminders of what is written in 1John 1: 6-10:
If, then, we say that we have fellowship with him, yet at the same time live in the
darkness, we are lying both in our words and in our actions. But if we live in the light
— just as he is in the light — then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood
of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from every sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and there is no truth in us. But if
we confess our sins to God, he will keep his promise and do what is right: he will
forgive us our sins and purify us from all our wrong doings. If we say that we have not
sinned, we make a liar out of God, and his word in not in us.
The sooner we realize this, the sooner we will discover and accept the need for a
personal Savior.

2.3. Module II: The Authentic Christian
NOTE: This mini-teaching should not go beyond 15 minutes because there is the main talk to consider.
I. DYNAMICS
A. Relationships are gelling among all and the participants are more at ease with each other.
B. Last week’s talk on Repentance and Faith has made them more aware of their failings and more
receptive to forming a personal relationship with God.
C. After the one-to-one dialogue, participants are more confident with the leadership of their DGLs.
NOTE: At this point in time most of the participants have some reservations and are reluctant to
pray the Charismatic way. Most of them have barely started reading the bible and are
not familiar with how people worshipped God in the Old Testament.
The concept used in this teaching is to associate the praising and raising of hands to practices and
events which they can feel comfortable and familiar with, and which they can easily adapt to.
In all BCLPs where these teachings were given, 90 to 95% of the participants immediately accepted this
way of worshipping God. Whatever reservation or objection they may have had prior to the teaching,
quickly disappeared.

the whole service team should set the example by raising their hands. After this time, we
can raise our hands for all the succeeding songs.
• Show your participants that you are happy to raise your hands to the Lord.
• During your discussion, you can share with them how you yourself felt about raising
your hands.
e. As preparation for the Baptism, check how many of the team do not have the gift of
praying in tongues.
f. Distribute the Handout on Loving God and Neighbor.

4. TALK PROPER ON Praising and Raising of Hands 15 minutes
5. EXHORTATION AND CHALLENGE 10 minutes
We know that some of you are still apprehensive about greeting the Lord in this manner. It
might help if you remember that the raising of hands is a spontaneous action of greeting,
but that most of all, it is a spontaneous action of love. The emphasis is on the word
spontaneous. When we are too engrossed in our own selves, it is hard to surrender to the
Lord in this way. But if you strongly feel your love for Him, then, as the Nike commercial
says: “JUST DO IT!”
(Immediately after, sing one of the two songs of praise. The staff and, hopefully, the participants,
will raise their hands while singing. Avoid using pressure.)

GOALS
To get participants to start vocalizing their prayers by explaining
how the people of the Old and New Testaments
worshipped God in this fashion
NOTE: This mini-teaching should not go beyond 15 minutes because there is the main talk to consider.
I. DYNAMICS
A. At this point, most if not all of the participants have totally accepted the BCLP. The DGLs have
become quite influential and in a position where they can persuade the participants to participate
more fully in the program. By now, the DGLs have earned the love and respect of their group and
can exercise this influence to a greater degree.
B. The main talk on The Christian Family (Talk No. 6) will further open their minds to a greater need of
a personal relationship with God.
C. This talk also touches on Christ’s commandment to love one another, resulting in a greater
understanding of this commandment and the way of life we are led to live as Christians.
NOTE: During the past several sessions the CLP Course Leader has led the participants into
vocalizing one-sentence prayer of thanksgiving in preparation for this teaching. By
this time they have become familiar with prayers said aloud.

b. Reminders for all Discussion Group Leaders and Assistant Discussion Group Leaders:
• Make-up sessions completed?
• One-on-Ones completed?
• Were all participants able to hear Confession?
• Review of groupings / group memberships — who are IN? OUT?
• Invite the participants to attend our BCBP Breakfast / Luncheon.
• Invite a prayer partner to assist you in praying over your participant during the
Baptism of the Holy Spirit. (Your prayer partner could be your Unit Group Leader or
a former Action Group Leader.)
2. INTRODUCTORY COMMENTS
Do not give Introductory Comments because this will be a long night.
One form of communication we use to converse with our Lord is that of Vocal Prayers. To

Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need,
always asking him with a thankful heart. And God’s peace, which is far beyond
human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ
Jesus.
When we pray to our Lord using vocal prayers, our prayers become more personal,
we can verbalize just exactly how we feel and tell Him what we need from Him. This
mode of communication brings us to a closer relationship since we are able to converse
with Him as we would to our close best friend.
What is beautiful here is God’s promise, which we find in the last verse. Let me repeat
that: and God’s peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts
and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.

GOALS
To stress the importance of marriage
and the need to build strong Christian families
I. DYNAMICS
It is safe to assume that in the last six sessions, the spouses have started to clearly visualize their
individual and collective relationships with God. We can also assume that the participant couples have
been discussing and comparing notes about the BCLP.
a. Encourage the DGLs to be like Philip in guiding their participants. Hopefully, we can all
be the instruments that will lead all of them to the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
b. Urge DGLs to encourage their members to verbalize their prayers and accompany this
with the raising of hands.
c. Advise the DGLs that the discussion period would be an opportune time for them to find
out how their members are faring out in their marriage. They can discover this by
actively listening to how the couples discuss their opinions regarding the subject.
d. Remind DGLs that if any untoward information is leaked by one of the participants
during their sharing, it would be best to side-step the subject to avoid embarrassment.
However, this would be a subject that should be taken up in the next one-to-one dialogue.
e. Distribute Handout on The Christian Family.
f. Instruct the Music Ministry to rehearse an old song and teach a new one.

Last week, we talked about the closest neighbors we have — our own families — and our
roles as Christian parents and children.
Tonight we shall tackle another role we play — that of Christians in our work places.
Earlier, we told you that this second module is about The Authentic Christian.
Tonight, our topic is entitled The Christian in the Marketplace, and it will focus primarily
on our roles and responsibilities as Christian businessmen and professionals.

During your discussion, focus on your work place. If there is time, include the following
question in the discussion starter: What are the opportunities and difficulties you encounter
in becoming a witness of Christ in your workplace?
5. REMINDERS 10 minutes
One of the practices that we find very helpful in bringing business associates closer to
each other and to the Lord is when they pray together as one. By praying together, they
bring the Lord more and more into the center of their respective work places. And more
and more, He becomes recognized as the true head of the business. If those who are
close business partners and associates would do many worldly things together, why
shouldn’t they pray together?
If you and your associates in the office have not been praying together on a regular
basis, but you want to begin to do it, I would suggest praying together before meetings.
(Of course, this presupposes that you do hold meetings together.)
Take some time out to truly thank the Lord for specific blessings of the day. Managers
should lead this, and at the beginning will probably have to do all the praying. If you do
this regularly during the coming week, then the rest of your associates will hopefully be
encouraged to give their own brief prayers of thanksgiving. You’d be surprised at the
way some of your associates can be very spontaneous in their relationship with the
Lord.
Henceforth, include your business associates’ path to the Lord in your individual prayers,
and pray for the grace to become Christ’s living witness.
Page 30 The Course Directors Kit August 2000 The BCLP Manual
2. The Course Directors Kit
The BCLP Manual 2.3. Module II: The Authentic Christian
A word of warning: If they are not ready, don’t push them, but continue to lead them
yourself with the love of Christ in mind and in heart.
b. On Scripture Readings
Continue to read the scripture reading list found in your handouts.
• Spend some time to meditate on the words spoken to you.
• Allow the words of the Lord to bring to light certain areas in your lives which need to
be changed according to His will and word.
• Repent for your stubbornness and your self-centered pride.
• In prayer, ask for the grace to change. Ask Him to change you.
• And don’t forget to thank Him for having spoken to you, and even now thank Him greatly
as you expect Him to succeed in making you a person conformed to His image.
By attending this BCLP, you have taken an important step towards bringing your family, and
your areas of livelihood closer to Christ. This is the Lord’s plan for each of you. Fol-
low His plan, and you will not fail.
Now, you might say, what about us children, or us mere employees? How can we bring
Christ to our family, to our areas of employment? How indeed?
In either case, whether you are the head of the household, or a mere servant of the firm,
Christ wants you to be His witness. By your acts, more than by your words, by your change
in life style, more than by any amount of preaching, you can bring others to desire to know
Christ by showing the joy and peace that you have in being close to Him. We will talk more
about this in future sessions.

can provide them with a deeper sense of Christ in their lives
I. DYNAMICS
A. The participants are now expectant and eager for next week’s Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Nothing
has been said about this subject in previous talks but you can rest assured that they have heard
much about it from their friends. They are anticipating next week’s Baptism and will be all ears
and full of questions regarding today’s talk.
B. Reports received from previous BCLPs indicate that many of the explanations and answers given
by the DGLs during the discussion period were erroneous or inadequate. Some of the DGLs are
inexperienced and might not be in a position to answer correctly many of the questions that normally
come up.
C. In some of the previous BCLPs, this problem was solved by opening the floor to questions directed
to the speaker and/or the BCLP Director, who are better prepared to explain and answer their
questions. The results were very good.
D. The BCLP Director will have to decide, after properly evaluating his DGLs, whether to open the floor
to questions (written) or continue with the regular discussion period. The decision must be based
on the competence of his DGLs to explain and answer questions.

GOALS
To lead participants to receive the power of the Holy Spirit
I. DYNAMICS
A. Turn to the Lord and have faith that He will keep His promises. The more the team is centered on
the Lord, the easier it will be for the participants to follow this example. In this atmosphere of
worship it will be a lot easier to lead them to yield to the Spirit.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
• If the officiating priest is a charismatic priest, the Mass may precede the Baptism and the priest
may explain the Baptism of the Holy Spirit during the homily. In this case, the Director will explain
the Baptism sequence after the Mass, right before the Baptism proper. The activity is culminated
with a merienda cena or some snacks.
• If the officiating priest is not a charismatic priest, the Course Director will begin by giving his talk on
the Baptism and the Baptism sequence followed by the Baptism proper. Serve merienda or snacks

1. INTRODUCTION
Good afternoon, brothers and sisters in Christ.
Today is your special day. It would be worthwhile remembering it, as you remember your
birthday or your wedding anniversary because today you will form a stronger and more
permanent bond of unity with the Holy Spirit of God.
Today is a day of rejoicing, a festive occasion, one that you have been preparing and
praying for all these past weeks. It is also a day of thanksgiving for what the Lord will
do for each one of you.
2. BRIEF EXPLANATION
Before we proceed into the prayer session proper, let me give you a brief explanation of the
following:
When Paul was done, these disciples had definitely received the Holy Spirit. They knew
it, and so did he. There was a change in them.In Acts 8:17 we read that the same thing
was true when the Spirit came upon the group of Samaritans who had believed because
of Philip’s preaching. Peter and John came and laid hands on them and they received
the Holy Spirit. The same passage in Acts goes on to say,
“When Simon saw that the Spirit was given through the
imposition of hands by the apostles, he offered them money.”

Christian Life
In other words, the giving of the Holy Spirit was obvious enough and good enough that
Simon could see that something was going on and that it would be worth a small investment
to obtain the same power. During the prayer session, your Discussion Group Leader will
imitate St. Paul, St. Peter and St. John by gently laying his hands on you, either on your
head or on your shoulder, praying that the Holy Spirit will bless you with His pardon, His
healing and His gifts.
e. Yielding to Tongues
A person should claim this gift in confidence when he is prayed over. It is a gift God
gives freely, simply because one asks for it.
“Make love your aim and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts.”
(1 Corinthians 14: 1)
We should desire it and ask for it in faith, expecting to receive it. We must cooperate
with God by speaking out in faith and expecting God to give us the utterance. Here we
need active faith, not passive.

a. Before we start with the prayers for the Baptism of the Spirit, we will first commit ourselves
to God.
As we earlier said, we were too young to make this commitment personally when we
were baptized into our church. Our baptismal godparents made them in our behalf.
We are now mature persons, who are fully aware and who, understanding the implications,
are now ready to personally re-commit ourselves to JesusChrist.
I will lead you in the Prayer of Commitment to Christ by asking questions. Please reply
aloud in the affirmative to these questions while repeating the contents of the questions.
For example, I will ask you: Do you renounce Satan and all wrong doings?
You will then answer: Yes, I renounce Satan and all wrong doings.
Lord Jesus Christ, I want to belong to you from now on. I want to be free from the
dominion of darkness and the rule of Satan, and I want to enter into your kingdom
and be part of your people. I will turn away from all wrong doing and will avoid
everything that leads me to wrong doing. I ask you to forgive all the sins that I have
committed. I offer my life to you and I promise to obey you as my Lord. I ask you
to baptize me in the Holy Spirit.

a. We are now ready for the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the Laying-on of Hands.
• Each one of you will be asked to come forward to sit in front of the tabernacle. P u t
yourself in the proper disposition, open to the workings of the Holy Spirit. Your
Discussion Group Leader, together with a praying partner, will lay hands and pray
over you.
• After you have been prayed over, your Discussion Group Leader will bring you back
to your seat. Please do not leave, but wait until everyone has finished. While
waiting, continue to praise, meditate and say prayers of thanksgiving. If you were
blessed with the gift of tongues, use this beautiful gift to pray for all the rest who are
still being prayed over.
b. Let me now acquaint you with the sequence that we will follow for the Baptism of the Holy
Spirit. The suggested sequence to be followed for the Baptism is:
• Prayer of Praise Leader and Participant
• Prayer of Protection Leader
• Prayer of Deliverance/Concerns Leader
• Prayer Intentions Leader
• Commitment Leader and Participant
• Prayer for the Baptism Leader
• Prayer for the Gifts of the Holy Spirit Leader
• Prayer for the Gift of Tongues Leader and Participant
• Closing Prayer of Thanks Leader and Participant
c. If there are no questions, we will now begin the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and the
Laying-on of Hands.
• The Discussion Group Leaders and their prayer partners begin to lay hands and
pray over their participants.
• The music ministry provides the music for the entire activity.
1. Different people have different experiences. Feeling is not the important thing. Look for the
new ways God is at work in you and respond to it. It may be a new desire for prayer, for
reading scripture, etc. If you did not speak in tongues tonight, don’t worry about it! Expect it
to come soon. Don’t make the mistake of identifying “being baptized in the Spirit” with
“getting the gift of tongues.” In your prayer during this coming week, give plenty of time to
praise and thanksgiving, doing this aloud — if you can do so without disturbing anyone —
and you may well discover that you can praise the Lord in tongues. It is not important whether
you use tongues or your own words to praise Our Lord. What is important is that you praise
and thank Him for His gift of the Spirit. If you are not sure, just keep doing what you are
doing and ask the Lord to form it into the gift of tongues if it isn’t.
2. Be aware that Satan can tempt one to doubt. Satan is seeking to rob everyone of God’s gift.
For him the next best thing to keeping you from getting it is to keep you from using it. If he
can convince you that the key in your hand is not the key to the door, he can keep you from
using it to open the door. Don’t let feelings of doubt bother you. Remember the fact that God
promised it and you asked for it.
Page 40 The Course Directors Kit August 2000 The BCLP Manual
2. The Course Directors Kit
The BCLP Manual 2.4. Module II: Living a Spirit-Filled
Christian Life
3. You can’t expect all your problems to go away at once, though many will. The Holy Spirit will
make a big change in you, and you will see it. Not everything will be changed. Some things
will take a while to get worked out. What is different now is that you have a new power which
you can use in working them out.
4. What happened tonight is just a beginning. Be faithful to a regular time of daily prayer and to
regular participation in the meetings of the BCBP. Pray in tongues every day. Be sure that a
good portion of your prayer time is spent in praise and thanksgiving, in your own words.
“He who is faithful with a little will be set over much.” Matthew 25: 21
5. Go easy in your sharing of this with others. . Go easiest with those who are closest to you
— especially your family. It is possible to scare people off, to give them more than they are
ready for. The first thing to do is to love them more than you did before, and serve them. The
change in you will be a witness to Christ
For this reason I remind you to keep alive the gift that God gave you when I laid my hands
on you. For the Spirit that God has given us does not make us timid; instead, his Spirit fills
us with power, love and self-control. Do not be ashamed, then, of witnessing for our Lord;
neither be ashamed of me, a prisoner for Christ’s sake. Instead, take your part in suffering
for the Good News, as God gives you the strength for it. He saved us and called us to be
his own people, not because of what we have done, but because of his own purpose and
grace. He gave us this grace by means of Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but
now it has been revealed to us through the coming of our Savior, Christ Jesus. He has
ended the power of death and through the gospel has revealed immortal life. Together let us
now say prayers of praise, worship and thanksgiving for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

GOALS
To stress that last week’s Baptism
was the beginning of a growth process in a new way of life
I. DYNAMICS
1. The most common reaction is an emotional and spiritual experience, which has left them in
“cloud nine”.
2. Another is a feeling of “I hope it lasts”. Some of these persons may already be experiencing
some doubts — the fear that this feeling may not last.
3. Some participants could feel let down because the experience was not what they anticipated,
or because they did not receive the gift of tongues.
B. These reactions must be dealt with gently and with a lot of care. This 10th session should be a time
when people start to move away from their feelings and begin to approach this new life in faith.

d. During the Opening Prayer, encourage your participants to vocalize their own prayers.
e. Distribute the Handout on Growing in the Spirit.
f. Instruct the Music Ministry to rehearse an old song and teach a new one.
The fire of the Spirit is now burning in all of you. What we must do now, as St. Paul said in
his second letter to Timothy is,
“to stir into flame the gift of God bestowed when my hands were laid on you.”
To share with you about Growth and how to keep that flame alive, allow me to call on a brother

a. Christian Growth
In 1Peter 2: 2, St. Paul says,
“As new born babies, desire the pure milk of the word,
that you may grow thereby.”

2. The Course Directors Kit
The BCLP Manual 2.4. Module II: Living a Spirit-Filled
Christian Life
A person who is RENEWED starts a new life similar to that of a new born infant. Seven
rules that promote good health in babies can be adapted and applied to a Christian’s
spiritual growth:
• DAILY FOOD.
Take in the “pure milk of the Word” through study and meditation.
• FRESH AIR.
Pray often or you will faint. Prayer is the oxygen of the soul.
• REGULAR EXERCISE.
Put into practice what you learn in God’s word.
• ADEQUATE REST.
Rely on God at all times in simple Faith.
• CLEAN SURROUNDINGS.
Avoid evil company and whatever will weaken you spiritually.
• LOVING CARE.
Be a part of a church where you will benefit from a priest’s teaching and Christian
fellowship.
• PERIODIC CHECK-UPS.
Regularly examine you spiritual health (conscience).
If we neglect any of these rules, our progress will be hindered. God wants us to grow “in
the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2Peter 3:18

Christian Life
1) As you read these letters, consider yourself as a new Christian convert, just as
these people whom Paul was addressing were. Read them as if the Spirit is
addressing you personally.
2) Open your Bible and look for the passage but don’t read right away. Take time to
relax and bring yourself into the presence of God. Imagine yourself opening the
door to welcome your most awaited guest into your heart. You are now in the
presence of a person whom you revere and love. Give Him your undivided attention.
3) Recite a brief prayer, humbly asking Him to speak to you personally, e.g. “Speak
Lord, your servant (name) is listening.”
4) Begin reading the passage or passages in your Bible.
• First, read them aloud, and slowly.
• Say them prayerfully and silently the second time around.
5) Don’t simply read them straight through. Make it a scriptural prayer, stop at any
point where you may find a passage or a phrase that seems to speak out loudly
and clearly to you personally, a passage which is perhaps bothersome to you
because it hits you — whether positively or negatively. (You may ask them to read
Galatians 1:6 or Philippians 2 as examples.)
6) Re-read the passage and if you have an accent pencil or pen, mark the passage.
7) Then sit still and “chew on it”. Meditate on the passage and ask for the Spirit’s
help in making you understand and live those words that you just read. Allow the
word of God
• to question your life,
• to inspire you, and
• to reveal God’s plan for you
8) Talk to God about how you feel regarding the passage, humbly seeking His help.
9) You may then proceed with the reading or you can stop your prayers with the
passage, for you to return to again during your next prayer time (perhaps
sometime later in the day or the next day).
10) In any case, remember to end with a prayer of thanksgiving and don’t forget to
praise and worship the Lord, verbally and in tongues.
d. Reminders
1) Start developing your individual prayer time.
2) This is not the end. On the contrary, this is just the beginning.
