Topic: Types of noise and dimensions of communication

A. INSTUCTIONS: In a sheet of paper, write one (1) communication

situation

on each different types of noise (Physical noise, physiological noise

and

psychological noise).

1. Communication Situation that illustrates a hindrance under physical

noise.

One situation that I can give is when there’s a man trying to sleep
peacefully in his house but was interrupted due to the disturbance of
the loud music coming from his neighbor house on which made him
irritated or angry due to getting distracted from sleeping because of
the interference of loud music coming from his neighbor’s house.

2. Communication Situation that illustrates a hindrance under

physiological noise

_a situation that I can give on physiological noise is when A teacher

is discussing a lesson in his class but his students feels fatigued or
tired which then distracts them from listening on the lesson being
discussed by their teacher as they did not sleep enough last night.
And because of it when their teacher asked them a question they
wouldn’t be unable to answer it correctly as they got distracted from
listening due to feeling fatigued or tired.

3. Communication Situation that illustrates a hindrance under

psychological noise

__

One situation I would give here is When a student is trying to

understand its teacher’s lesson but due to his/her personal problems in
life it distracts the student from listening to the teacher’s lesson and
therefore when asked by the teacher. The student would not be unable
to answer the question correctly as he/she is distracted by his/her
personal problems in life.

B. INSTUCTIONS: Write an example miscommunication situation on each dimension of

communication. You can also use your past experiences

1. Verbal and Nonverbal Dimension

__ in verbal, a situation that shows miscommunication is when Mark was
speaking to John on the phone but he couldn’t understand him well due to
the construction noises happening outside John’s house.

In nonverbal, a situation that I can give here is when jm misinterpret a

sign language into an inappropriate sign or emotion or expression
coming from his deaf friend Carlos as he doesn’t truly know what a
sign languages mean since he doesn’t do a lot of sign languages, just a
few of them which are easy for him to do.

With that this situation shows miscommunication between jm and his

deaf friend Carlos due to him misinterpreting or misunderstanding the
sign language into an inappropriate sign or emotion or expression sent
to him by his deaf friend Carlos as he doesn’t truly know a lot of sign
languages but just a few of it.

2. Oral and Written Dimension

Oral = jake was giving a speech as the new president of his class. But
since it was his first time he was nervous and spoke gibberish. The
speech that he was trying to say was likely misunderstood and
misinterpreted by them.

Written = Jeremiah was sending a message to his friends through messenger.

His keyboard has an autocorrect feature leading the cause that his friends
misinterpret the message. Later on they got to an argument but Jeremiah
immediately told them that it was unintentional and it was autocorrected by
his keyboard.

3. Formal and Informal Dimension

__formal = Mr. Charles has a presentation for his boss on a meeting

with its board of directors. He has no experience that’s why he is
nervous. His presentation wasn’t clear and kept on speaking gibberish
that made his boss and its board directors misinterpret and
misunderstood his presentation.

Informal = mark commented Sarcastically to his friends post. His

friends didn’t get the sarcasm and misunderstood him. Mark deleted
his reply and explained to his friend that it was only a sarcasm.

4. Intentional and Unintentional Dimension

Intentional = James said to his friend john that he was cute. But john
got offended because he thought that James is calling him gay since
the word “cute” is only meant for girls. On which it wasn’t really true
as James explained to him clearly that the word “cute” is also for boys
not just girls and also he explained to john that he didn’t meant to call
him cute intentionally as he was not really aware that calling him cute
would really offend him that much.
Unintentional = Mika was sharing how she spent her time with his
boyfriend Jason, together. But Jason crossed his arms in front of her.
So Mika thought that he was not interested in what she was saying,
but she just misunderstood him.
