Analytical research on the relation of technology to innovation

By Venus Mamucud

Abstract

An abstract summarizes, usually in one paragraph of 300 words or less, the major aspects of the
entire paper in a prescribed sequence that includes: 1) the overall purpose of the study and the
research problem(s) you investigated; 2) the basic design of the study; 3) major findings or trends
found as a result of your analysis; and, 4) a brief summary of your interpretations and conclusions.

Highlight Abstract
A highlight abstract is specifically written to attract the reader’s attention to the study. No pretense is
made of there being either a balanced or complete picture of the paper and, in fact, incomplete and
leading remarks may be used to spark the reader’s interest. In that a highlight abstract cannot stand
independent of its associated article, it is not a true abstract and, therefore, rarely used in academic
writing.

organization are also considered. With denotation of human development

As the universe is said to be expanding continuously, so is the metaphor for the human
pursuit in societal advancement. Technologies are replaced by another technology in a short
span of time - it is not a gradual process such as transistors to integrated circuits, anymore.
Skeptical ideas of yesterday are now realized and improving our way of life today. Looking back,
we can illustrate the large amount of dissimilarity in our technological standing today from eras
ago. Two hands: on the left holding a specialized rock to build with a single-purpose and a
smartphone on the right wherein it fits the same size but providing features for multi-purpose
use. [1]

This technological revolution touches mankind with such great impact on every aspect of
living: communication, transportation, medicine, economics, government - which puts our
current state into question - what’s next? We really do not know what is coming because every
miniscule data being acquired can be produced as information capable of changing the course
of society. Emerging technologies such as Internet of Things (IoT), 5G Networks, Artificial
Intelligence (AI), 3D Printing, Robotics, Virtual/Augmented Reality, Drones, etc. are giving us
glimpses of what is coming in the foreseeable future. Everything we have on our plate right now
were undoubtedly owed from two fundamental words: often being interchanged - technology
and innovation.

Technology comes from the Greek words “techne” (which means art,
craft, or skill) and “logos” (which means word, reason). It is defined as a
branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and
their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such
subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science. It is
thought of by most people in terms of its artefacts such as computers,
software, aircraft, pesti- cides, hybrid rice varieties, etc. Technology,
however, is more than these tangible products.
Technology, in general, consists of the know-how and the process by
which humans modify nature to meet their needs and wants.
Technology, in particular, is the system of infrastructure, know-how,
and process by which humans make tools and other useful stuff and
accomplish other tasks.

I. Enter the two words for critics: technology and innovation. Note that they often being
interpreted with the same notion; being interchanged in definitions as it was perceived as
synonymous. Explain the distinction between the two by citing different definitions and/or
examples.
- Define each term (cite reference)
- Expound each definition by giving them examples – clearly stating the difference in
condition, in nature itself

Abstract The aim of this paper is to provide clarity on the differences and the relationship
between a company’s technology strategy and its innovation strategy. Technology and
innovation strategies are often viewed as synonymous with each other. However this paper
shows that they are two different but connected strategies. The paper initially focuses on the
definition of each strategy, which includes their function. The paper goes on to present the
relationship or alignment between these two strategies and how they align with other business
strategies. Finally an example from the automotive industry is applied to test the developed
alignment framework. Keywords Innovation, Technology, Strategy

Zara - use the technology in order to have a fast and market-responsive company

It is essential that Zara has the possibility to quickly respond on market demands, from their factory in La
Coruna. They have innovative manufacturing process, which allows them to be quick in responding and
sending clothes to their shops, and they also do some re-designing in that time. Only 15-25% of clothes
are produced before the season and 50-60% in the start of the season. All other clothes are produced
during the season according to customer wishes (design which has no good response is withdrawn).
Zara Design team are producing 18,000 different models of clothes per year, that’s about 70 every
working day in a continuous process. The Zara Inditex group has more then 5500 stores in 82 countries
and employs more then 110,000 people. Their product reach customers in just 4 weeks. It is astonishing
to hear that whole idea process is just 4 weeks long.

There is a big difference between innovation and technology. Like Innovation is

something which leads towards new ideas, method, things, or restructuring,
remodelling. It is totally depend on a new collections of data, analysis, theory and
subjects.

Technology is a bunch of techniques, methods and things which includes reduction of

efforts like smart phone includes an technology like emails, calls , camera, music's, etc,
it's a bunch of certain different techniques.

Relationship: cyclical rather than linear

TECHNOLOGY , talking about technology, it's also a part of innovation . The current
technology is an innovation from the past which has made our lives so much easier.
Technology is something to which we adapt for our betterment which allows humans to
do multitasking more easily at the same time. Strategic Technology Planning

<example is LG> Another example is a process innovation of Zara - fast and market-responsive
scheme of delivering their products. Another example is the online web check-in of flights in
airline companies. From the old process of printing the boarding passes - innovation was made
and allowed the passengers to check-in on their smartphones through the use of QR codes.

To Sum It All Up
Technology and innovation has a rather cyclical relationship than our common linear perception.
"Innovation and technology, though talked of almost interchangeably, are not the same thing.
Innovation is what people newly know how to do. Technology is what they are actually doing..." [x]

being interchanged - technology and innovation.

Drawing the lines between

Technology and innovation are often being interpreted with the same notion; being
interchanged in definitions as it was perceived, synonymously. Defining the two terms in
their own distinctions will be the very first step in learning the significance of each and the
relationship between the two.

Technology comes from the Greek words “techne” (which means art, craft, or skill) and
“logos” (which means word, reason). It is defined as a branch of knowledge that deals with
the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the
environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science,
and pure science. [2] It is thought of by most people in terms of its artefacts such as
computers, software, aircraft, pesticides, hybrid rice varieties, etc. Technology, however, is
more than these tangible products. In general, it consists of the know-how and the process
by which humans modify nature to meet their needs and wants.

Innovation in its modern meaning is "a new idea, creative thoughts, new imaginations in
form of device or method". Innovation is often also viewed as the application of better
solutions that meet new requirements, unarticulated needs, or existing market needs, Such
innovation takes place through the provision of more-effective products, processes,
services, technologies, or business models that are made available to markets,
governments and society. [3] In denotation, innovation is a process which brought
inventions to commercial use. Innovation is the sum of an invention that is put up for
commercial use and social adaptation.

In other words, new technologies are one outcome of some innovative processes. Not all
innovation involves technology, either as an enabler or as a result.

Case in point

There are lots of innovation we can cite just by surfing the internet, watching
the news, or just by simply looking around. There are what we call product
innovations: the electronics company LG introduced a new type of screen that is

flexible enough to be rolled up like a newspaper – being one good example of
invention and innovation as it solves the problem in portability. This goes with the
birth of smartwatches, bluetooth earpieces, and the uprising

The relationship between innovation and technology is probably more cyclical than these
linear descriptions suggest. But the larger point is:

2. Now that the two terms are now distinctively explained, proceed now in explaining
the relationship between the two. The connection – in which what makes the society
progress even more.

· How technology is related to innovation? Which is which?

· Purpose? Then proceed to relationship

8.10 Putting it all together

From a management perspective, it is important to note that invention is not the starting point for
innovation, but something that can be seen as the outcome of things like creativity and ideas
generation, competitor awareness, and the availability of new materials or components. Chance, or
luck, also plays a part, as we noted in Section 3, although as Louis Pasteur, one of the founders of
the field of medical microbiology, stated in an 1854 lecture: ‘in observation, fortune favours only the
prepared mind’. How we organise ourselves will affect the chances of generating inventions and
innovations. Figure 13 illustrates elements of an innovation strategy, and the questions we can be
asking ourselves about each one.
It is difficult to produce a universal representation of the various components of the innovation
process. However, Figure 13 also acts as a sketch of how these elements fit together. A new idea
for a service or product will typically involve the development of one or more prototypes or pilots, and
the implementation of a production process. As discussed earlier, though, an innovation might also
be applied to the process of producing an existing product (a process innovation). We have also
seen that, in service innovations, process innovation may precede product innovation (the reverse of
the way it is represented in Figure 13). As we noted earlier in this course, innovations might also
apply to the marketing of a product or service. Whatever the type of innovation, at this stage, the
new idea remains as an idea or invention; it only becomes an innovation at the point at which it is
used to add value in commercial or social use. As they diffuse, most innovations will enter
subsequent phases of incremental innovation (again, possibly in product, process or marketing) and
further iterations of development, marketing and diffusion. Eventually, in many cases, innovations
will themselves be displaced by newer innovations leading to their decline and displacement.

Conclusion
This free course aimed to provide you with an overview and introduction to the range of related
concepts, ideas and debates that enable you to develop a critical understanding of technological
innovation and management.
Throughout this course we have linked to external resources, as well as included a range of
activities, which should have served to illustrate, think through and reinforce how the various topics
apply to your own situation or to one with which you are familiar. One feature of studying innovation,
as distinct from the technological disciplines which generate much innovation, is that it is a
fundamentally social and economic field. Consequently, similar phenomena may have different
meanings or implications in different contexts: What is ‘old hat’ in one area of the economy may well
be a radical novelty in another. Thinking about the relevance of the concepts that we have
introduced to your own field, and reading about contemporary thinking and practice, will deepen your
understanding of these ideas.
