VI. BOOST UP YOUR LEARNING

Direction: Based from the two literature (THE ANALECTS, and GENGHIS KHAN AND THE
MONGOLS) discussed, choose at least one where you will write on a reflection. The reflection
must convey the insights that you get from your chosen literature. Relate it to your personal
experiences. You may also write what you have learned in the discussion as well as what you
have felt. You may also discuss its significance into one’s life. Your output will be graded
according to the criteria below.

The Analects is the literature that I have chosen for it bares more value in knowledge
than the other. I learned in “The Analects” that it is a compilation of teachings of Confucius
which embodies several values such as morals and learnings. But there is something I can
relate to is the 5 virtues proposed to be practiced according to Confucius. This five virtues are
kindness, goodness, honesty, modesty, wisdom and trustworthiness. I believe that we must
adhere to this 5 virtues as I experienced in the past, practicing these five which later on brings
fortune or fruit of the actions to me. First is kindness which is the quality of being generous,
considerate and friendly which helps me build friendships. Second is goodness which is the
quality of being morally upright or virtuous that’s helps me become an open door for those
around me. Next is modesty which is the quality of being humble or unassuming to one’s
ability, this helps me to exercise the thought that everyone has equal status, chances and
talents and keeps me away from having bad intentions. Next is wisdom quality to being able to
use or practice the knowledge that I have so I can help others. Lastly is trustworthiness that
makes worthy of promises and keeping it.
These five virtues is what I follow and relates to in the Analects and because of this I
overcome circumstances easily.
