symbols that depict the social conditions of the Philippines when it was written. Examine the
cover design, Noli Me Tangere and answer the questions that follow.

These symbols on the cover page were important to Rizal because they represent
the beauty of the Filipino and the country, as seen at the top of the cover. While the lower
section depicts the slavery and hardships endured by all Filipinos during colonization. It
represents life, beliefs, hardships, and all the moments that Filipinos go through, and Rizal
portrayed it through symbols, which are very important to Rizal.
