STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

It is an immense pleasure writing this statement of purpose illustrating the genuine facts about
me, my family, my past academics, my plans, goals, and vision along with my obvious intention to
return home after completion of my course in Early Childhood Education and Care. I am writing
this SOP to support my student admission and visa claim to study Certificate III in Early Childhood
Education and care leading to an Advanced Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care at the
Victorian Institute of Education.

Introduction

It’s a pleasure to introduce myself as Uttsab Thapaliya (Passport No:123456), born to Mr. Yam
Prasad Thapaliya and Mrs. Kalpana Thapaliya on 22 nd September 1999, a Permanent resident
of Siddhalek - 06, Dhading, Bagmati province, Nepal.

Since my childhood, I’ve been a very enthusiastic person regarding technology, and have
always wanted to pursue my career in the field of advanced technology and information
systems, as a fact I have been working towards a better future that’s why I’ve decided to
pursue my further education

I am working towards a better future and part of that vision is an international degree from a
reputed university. I have chosen Sydney, Australia as my desired city to further my education,
where I can get a world-class education and unmatched exposure to newer and better ideas.
This degree and my experiences while acquiring it will make me better equipped to develop my
own country when I eventually return.

I introduce myself as a person who believes that people can accomplish their dreams if they
chase their dream with passion. I am Barsha Poudel, a passport holder of Nepal with passport
number 12523810, born on 15th September, 2000 A.D. I am an inhabitant of Chitwan, Nepal. I
am seeking to apply for the prestigious and significant permission to enter Australia with the sole
purpose of gaining an international degree. I constantly worked to achieve the best in my
academics. The guidance of my family and my ambition to continue my further education abroad
is the reason why I have decided to go for my higher education at Sydney (Australia).
ACADEMIC BACKGROUND:

My parents have always supported and encouraged me for my better education which is why I
and honest student. I completed my School Leaving Certificate(S.L.C) from Bright Future English
Boarding School Benighat, Dhading securing First Division i.e, 66.25% in 2015. As a tech
enthusiast and have a keen interest in the field of computers, I choose Vocational Education and
Training(VET) Course rather than choosing +2 as my higher education. I then enrolled for 3-
year-long Diploma in Computer in Engineering Course which is

Realizing that a strong educational background is important for having a successful career, I
have been a sincere and curious student throughout my school life. I completed my School
Leaving Certificate (S.L.C) from Rapti Vidya Mandir Higher Secondary School Tulsipur, Dang,
securing First Division with Distinction i.e 80% in 2012. As I had a keen interest in the computer
sector, I chose the 3-year-long Diploma in Computer Engineering course provided by the reputed
CTEVT in 2015. I completed my diploma in September 2019 with 65.50% from Oxford Advanced
Engineering College Kalanki, Kathmandu. My diploma course established a strong foundation for
me by teaching me the basics of Operating Systems, Programming languages like C and C++,
Computer Graphics, Management Information System, as well as Internet and Web
Technologies.

In regards to my academics, I have completed my School Leaving Certificate Examination, Grade-

10 from Bal Kumari Kanya Ma Vi, Narayangadha with 60.75% in the academic year 2015. I
completed my Proficiency Certificate in Nursing from Maulakalika Health Science College,
Chitwan in 2020 with 66%. After deciding Australia as my next study destination, the first step
was to complete the requirements needed to study there as an international student. I then
prepared myself for language proficiency test i.e. PTE to meet the requirement to study in
Australia. I appeared in the PTE test held on 16 th of February, 2022 AD in which I secured an
overall band score of 54 (L: 64 R: 49 S: 48 W: 57). After getting the result in my hand and meeting
all the criteria, I was able to search for the college that meets my requirements. I was firm in my
decision about pursuing Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care and Diploma of Early
Childhood Education and Care.

GAP JUSTIFICATION
I have completed School Leaving Certificate Examination (Grade 10) in the year 2015. I joined
Secondary school (Grade XI and Grade XII) at Apex Academy Secondary School in the year 2016. I
have attended the class regularly but I cannot concentrate on my studies because my interest is
always on medical field. So, I left Secondary school and joined Proficiency Certificate in Nursing at
Maulakalika Health Science College in the year 2018. Afterward, I focused on my study and
completed Nursing in the year 2020.

FAMILY BACKGROUND:
Family is the backbone of our life. I am living with my family in Chitwan, Nepal. My family is
financially strong and they fulfilled my every need. They provided everything that was essential
during my early days, studies. My parents always support me and want to see me as a successful
person in the near future.

ECONOMIC TIES IN MY HOME COUNTRY

Regarding my financial arrangements, my parents have a good regular income source. My
parents are aware of my expenses during my entire study period in Australia being a student.
They also know about all expenditures that may take place during my stay in Australia.

My mother Mrs. Aruna Dawadee earns a total of NPR. 480,000 annually from House Rent from
Plot No.3511, 3514. My father Mr. Ishwor Raj Poudel earn NPR 11,25,000 annually from
partnership business and my sister earn NPR 3,60,000 annually from salary from JK tailors. It
should be obvious that with the annual income, my family will not face any difficulty paying for
my education. Their dream is to see me achieve all my goals and set me as a good example in the
society and nation so that the youth can look up to me. My economies ties and funds of my

WHY NOT NEPAL?
After months of research and investigations from different resources, I was sure that studying the
Early Childhood Education and Care of the subject is the best option for me. I researched the
colleges for studying a diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care and came across some of
the colleges like Kathmandu Institute of Child Health (https://www.kioch.org.np),
Budhanilkantha, KIST Medical College (https://www.kistmcth.edu.np), Lalitpur, thoroughly
checked the colleges outside the valley like Manipal College of Medical Sciences
(https://www.manipal.edu.np), Pokhara, Nepalgunj Medical College
(https://www.collegenp.com), Nepalgunj, but I could not find the course of Diploma in Early
Childhood Education and Care over the colleges in Nepal. Nepal is a developing country where
the entire infrastructure required for the development of a nation is in the developing phase. The
education system is quite improper due to a lack of resources and modern equipment. Nepal’s
education providers do not offer the Diploma course in Early Childhood Education and Care. Only
Montessori training centers have been established providing just three months of theoretical and
practical training related to this field. Nepal’s education providers have not taken this sector
seriously to date. So, I preferred Australia rather than Nepal for further education in this crucial
discipline. The present environment reflects that Nepal’s education providers still have not
realized the significance of Early Childhood Education and Care. Nepal’s education providers do
not offer VTE-based Early Childhood Education and Care programs. Side By the way, we are losing
the charm of childhood. So, I am worried that if I do not acquire my degree in Early Childhood
Education and Care, I will not be able for a congenial learning environment for children under 5
years of age to develop motor, mental, social, and emotional skills. Many suggested that I study
overseas for advanced teaching style, practical understanding, projects, and case studies. That’s
why I switch on to get further study in Australia. I then started visiting different consultancies to
choose the best destination for my study.

WHY AUSTRALIA?
After having the mindset of going overseas for my further studies, it was a great challenge for me
to choose the best destination for me so that I could get the best quality education with practical
skills and understanding. I needed to make sure that I wouldn’t regret my decision later, so I
visited different consultancies and had interactions with the seniors and asked them about their
experiences abroad I had options like the USA, Canada, UK, and Australia. Eventually, I decided
that Australia would be the best for me. The Australian education system allows every interested
person to be a part of their education system. I found Studying in Australia will give me a high
quality of education and an Australian degree is recognized all around the world. Australian
universities offer practical education that gives opportunity to apply the skills in the real practical
world.

Australia is one of the top leading countries in terms of providing the best quality education and
has 5 out of 30 best cities in the world for students based on student mix, affordability, quality of
life, good social security, and other important elements for students. Australia provides degrees,
which are highly valued by top prior employees all over the world, and provides varieties of
courses to international students so that they can choose the right field for them. The use of
technology, innovation in study areas, increases the quality of sound research in Nepal. I
researched different colleges in the UK related to my study course and found some of the
colleges and universities like “Brunel University London, UK”, “Teesside University UK”,
“University of South Wales, UK” and many more. I checked the course fee, study weeks, and
course structure on their websites.

I got to know that the tuition fees at the University of South Walesare nearly £4,500 per year
(https://www.southwales.ac.uk) and the annual fees at Brunel University are £6165
(https://pathway.brunel.ac.uk) which is way too expensive and in addition to the living cost which
is nearly like £90 per month for an international student, it would limit my range of affordability.
Also, another main reason is the cold climate which is easily not adjustable to everyone.
Australia has become a top destination for many South Asians including many Nepali students.
Besides these Australia has the ESOS (Education Services for Overseas Students) act which helps
the visa holder students if an institution fails to carry out its responsibilities. Also, the government
of Australia provides TPS (Tuition protection Service) Act which is an initiative of the Australian
Government to assist International students whose education providers are unable to fully
deliver their course of study. The more reasons to choose Australia for my education are:
• Quality assured education with professional learning programs.
• Globally recognized Australian courses.
• Internationally recognized degree.
• Peaceful environment with stable government policy.
• Reputed International education and lifestyle.
• Multicultural environment with friendly communities.
• High living standards with low costs of studying and living.
• Favorable weather for exploring and studying.
• Diversity of Education.

WHY SYDNEY?
Sydney is ranked 1st in the world’s most reputable cities by Forbes Magazine in 2017 (Source:
www.forbes.com), also I got to know that Sydney becomes the number one destination for
international students welcoming students from 180 different nations who speak more than 140
languages. I prefer Sydney because it is recognized internationally for quality education and
friendly environment. Sydney is one of Australia’s most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities which
offer world class education to a large number of international students from over 50 countries
with world renowned landmarks, high fashion boutiques, café-filled laneways, film and food
festivals, major sporting events, art exhibitions and performing arts productions. And it is world’s
top livable cities in terms of stability, education, health care, culture, the environment and it has
beautiful landscapes and the climate is similar to Nepal. Additionally, it is one of the most popular
cities in Australia which is not only better for education but also attractive for extra curriculum
activities. Moreover, Sydney has a very low crime rate so we can have a very peaceful
environment. Likewise, people of Sydney embrace some other cultures like Indian, Japanese, etc.
and Indian festivals are much more similar to our Nepalese cultures and festivals. Sydney is
capital of New South Wales where every sort of facilities are available like quick Transportation,
Medicals, Communication, Entertainment places as parks, bridges, proper accommodation and
other supporting centers for international students. Most distinctive place The World Opera
House is also located in Sydney. Sydney is highly safe secure, clean, friendly destination for
international students to study. Sydney is the most celebrated City of Australia and World famous
city as well. Sydney is the home of many world famous attractions like Sydney Harbor, Sydney
Harbor Bridge, Darling Harbor, The Blue Mountains, The rocks, Bondi Beach, and of course the
Sydney opera House which I’ve always wanted to visit. Also the living standard of Sydney is
among the highest in the world which has always fascinated me and I’ve always wanted to
experience it or to be part of it. Sydney enjoys a temperate climate with warm summers and mild
winters which is the perfect climate to go out and explore the city and to live as well.

REASON FOR CHOOSING EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE

It was Friedrich Frobel, a German pedagogue, who in the early eighteenth century created the
concept of kindergarten. This man was the student of J H. Pestalozzi, who was the education
reformer of Switzerland with the concept that learning should be from hand, head, and heart.
Frobel laid the foundation of modern education based on the recognition that children have
unique needs and capabilities. He also gave the concept that a child needs holistic development
to prepare them for primary education. Even in the present era Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, Honorable

Prime Minister of Singapore says Early Child Education (ECE) is a cornerstone of modern society.
In Singapore, they used to incorporate technology in the curriculum of the education system. The
three most developed countries of Asia namely Singapore, Japan, and South Korea have been
given high priority in ECE as compared to other Asian countries. In the context of Nepal, the
scenario is somewhat different. Still, there are a significant number of rural populations in the
hills and mountains who are not sending their kids to school. In many areas of the countryside,
even primary level schools are not inaccessible distance to the child as there is no transportation
and walking up to school is not feasible. Because of poverty, ignorance, and the geophysical
environment, children in such remote areas are deprived of primary-level education at a proper
age. Thus, in most remote hills, if school is nearby home i.e., within 10-15 minutes walking
distance, children of 5-6 years age start going school. The concept of ECE is unfelt need of such
area because of the socio-economic and geophysical environment associated with unawareness
of its importance due to poor education background. On the other hand, urbanization is ever
increasing in some cities of the country. Because of city-centered facilities of health service,
education, and job opportunities, people are migrating from villages to the city area. If I take an
example of Kathmandu valley, there is a fast increase in the population creating problems to
manage basic needs like drinking water and sanitation. The problem of air pollution and
management of traffic/ transportation has become a menace to the authorities of the
municipality. All people of working and schooling age seem to be ever busy in their routine
activities. The cost of living is ever increasing due to the ever-rocketing price of basic needs and
the desire to use utilities of newly developed technology. Under such circumstances, because of
an ever-busy schedule of all family members, there will be no one to take care of babies in the
home in the metropolitan areas like Kathmandu reveals the need for institutions like Daycare
Center, Child Care Facilities, or Kindergarten which all needs professional in Early Child Education
and Care (ECEC). Thus, visualizing the increasing significance of Daycare facilities and
Kindergarten and the need for ECEC specialists in all such facilities I chose to specialize in this
ever-demanding new field for my home country.
In the context of rural Nepal, we used to have a joint family system in which elderly people used
to live in the home and take care of preschool children and young energetics one used to go out
for farming-related jobs. Now, because of the increasing population, decreasing income farming
and increasing use of newly generated technology, for example, mobile phone, television,
internet which were not in common use a few years before, peoples are ever looking for a high
income generating profession. The consequence is that many young people from the rural area
have gone to foreign countries for high-paying jobs and spouses of such people used to live in an
urban area with the hope of grasping various opportunities and giving quality education to the
children. This situation has resulted in family structure from joint family to nucleus family and
increasing needs of early childhood education and care in the context of Nepal. Before people in
my home country were not conscious about early childhood education, however, with the change
in time, the consciousness of parents for early childhood education is an increasing trend in my
home country resulting in an increasing number of preschool education providers/Montessori
and early child care or daycare settings in my home country. As all these settings need specialists
in early childhood education and care so I will have enough opportunities to develop my career in
this field after the completion of my intended study. Besides, I have an inner sense of interest in
early childhood education and there is increasing demand as well as the scope of an early
childhood specialist in Nepal so I chose this particular field for my future career.

REASON FOR CHOOSING VICTORIAN INSTITUTE OF EDUCATION (VIE)

It was pretty difficult for me to choose a college or institution after deciding on the country for
my future studies because most Australian institutes are among the top in the world. So, I did
some extensive online research and also spoke with several people who are knowledgeable
about Australian institutions. I discovered several Australian colleges and universities, including
Queensford College (https://www.queensford.edu.au/), Victorian Institute of Education
(https://www.vie.edu.au/), Australian Institute of Business & Technology
(AIBT) (https://www.aibtglobal.edu.au/) Sydney School of Business and Technology (SSBT),
Southern Cross Education Institute, etc. but finally, I ended up choosing Victorian Institute of
Education. As a result of the course’s affordable pricing structure, student amenities, and learning
about student policies, the Victorian Institute of Education (VIE) became my best place in
Australia to pursue my intended course. Victorian Institute of Education (VIE) is located in Level 3,
741 George Street, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia. VIE is a provider of vocational education and
training. In the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF), practically all programs offered in
VIE are authorized and recognized. Every graduate receives professional skills and competence.
Students at VIE are educated and supervised by industry experts who are certified and
experienced, with the help of a professionally planned and up-to-date training course. This
institute is dedicated to providing high-quality training and ensuring that each student has a
positive and distinctive learning experience. I will get various benefits from contemporary
facilities with well-equipped classrooms at VIE, as well as a professional yet pleasant and helpful
learning atmosphere. VIE has shown to be more economical and career-oriented for my
education, which prompted me to enroll. The existence of competent student mentors, as well as
an accessible academic faculty and staff are all supportive considerations in choosing VIE. VIE is
listed on the CRICOS, which denotes educational excellence. VIE aims to provide each foreign
student with individual attention. Hence, after considering the different factors described above,
such as course structure, reputation, educational quality, numerous intakes, tuition rate, and
teaching approach, I am personally quite impressed with VIE. Certificate III in Early Childhood
Education and Care and Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is something I’m looking
forward to.

The above table reflects my intensive research regarding the tuition fee and duration to complete
certificate III and Diploma level courses in Early Childhood Education and Care in different
education providers in Australia. Out of six education providers, The One International College
and Queens ford College offer the course of my interest i.e. Certificate III in Early Childhood
Education and Care and Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care but their tuition fee
structure is highly expensive of AUD (39,000 and 38,400) respectively because of which I didn’t
prefer these two education providers. In the case of other education providers like Sydney School
of Business and Technology, Southern Cross Education Institute, Bedford College though they
offer the course that I want to study in a reasonable fee structure, the previous student review,
course structure, and the duration to complete the course did not encourage me to choose these
education providers. Thus, I ended up choosing the Victorian Institute of Education which offers
the course of my interest in a reasonable fee structure with an inspiring teaching/learning
environment.

WHY CERTIFICATE III IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE?

Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care is perfect for people who are wanting to start
a career in early childhood settings, as well as for those who are already working in the area but
who need to formalize their qualifications to take the next step in their career. Certificate III in
Early Childhood Education and Care will prepare me for a future career in an early childhood
setting, helping educators to provide a healthy, safe and caring environment for children in
Nepal. The course will give me the skills to communicate and work collaboratively with educators
and colleagues, as well as to support the holistic wellbeing, health, and safety of all children. I will
master the skills that I need to effectively help children learn and become confident and involved
learners. During my studies, I will also learn how to support children with behavioral issues. The
course will train me to navigate and comply with all the current legal and industry-related
requirements, policies, and procedures. I will become adept at supporting planned education
programs in early childhood settings, as well as assisting with the organization of classrooms and
community education centers back in my own country. Some of the possible employment
opportunities that I will get after the completion of this proposed course are early childhood
educator, family day care educator, child care assistant, etc.

is increasing across the world. The international certificate of Diploma in Early Childhood and

professional in any child care home, school, pre-school, hospital, Montessori, and so on.

FUTURE GOALS AND PATHWAYS TO ACHIEVE:

I have no intention to prolong my stay in Australia after the completion of the proposed course.
So, with the international qualification in the field of Early Childhood Education and Care, I will be
returning to my country to start a career as a child care professional in Nepal. The internationally
recognized qualification from the Australian institute will enable me to work confidently in my
professional field. Since child care professionals are in high demand due to the busy life schedule
of the parents in the urban areas of Nepal where different international preschools, Montessori
childcare centers are flourishing day by day, I don’t think I will have to face any obstacle regarding
the job. I will be skilled and competitive with better academic qualifications after receiving the
international certificate from Australia. I would, thereafter, be eligible to apply as a child care
educator in different types of child care centers, I/NGOs, Hospitals, Montessori schools, etc.
Although Nepal’s education providers do not offer any course in Early Childhood Education and
Care the multinational child care NGOs, organizations and different UN projects are trying their
best to improve the standard of a child with early childhood education. Namaste Children Nepal
is an NGO established in 2005 which works for the homeless and parentless children in Nepal
(http://ncn.org.np/). Voice of Children (VOC) is an NGO that works for the protection of children
(http://www.voiceofchildren.org.np/organization/). The Women’s Foundations Nepal (WFN) is an
NGO which is also taking care of children from the poor family background. So, there are many
job options for qualified child care educators in those NGOs, INGOs, and child care homes.
Though there are many options, I think I will start my professional career as a child care educator
with Namaste Children Nepal (NCN) which is a non-government organization. It has been
providing necessary care to the children in terms of health and education since its establishment.
Because of my international qualification, I will surely get a chance to be involved with Namaste
Children Nepal as a child care educator.

My expected remuneration in NCN will be in range of 55,000-60,000 which is an admirable sum

of money in the context of Nepal. Namaste Children Nepal is providing a safe and loving
environment for the children and is taking good care of children’s fundamental education,
nutritious food, etc. It also encourages children to participate in different extracurricular
activities. I will use my leadership skills to improve the quality of education and care for children.
As a child care educator in NCN, I will explore my potentiality as well as useful knowledge and
skills acquired from the modern teaching facilities of the Australian institution to develop the
learning framework to guide the children. I will give more priority to the education, health, and
safety of the children. As a child care professional my focus will be on developing positive and
respectful relationships with children. I will play a noteworthy role to support the holistic
development of children in early childhood. Moreover, I will design and implement the
curriculum in such a way that it develops an effective learning environment for children. By
implementing the strategies of including all children from diverse cultural backgrounds, I will
dedicate myself to the mental growth and overall development of the children. I will even include
the street children and provide free service to them which is my innermost desire.

MY INCENTIVE TO RETURN HOME:

We Nepalese are traditionally bounded people who strongly believe in living together, loving,
caring, sharing happiness and sorrows together and most importantly being each other’s support
in each and every part of life. I have planned to complete my Advanced Diploma of Early
Childhood Education and Care in Australia, with international education which provides me to
fulfill desires and practical knowledge to build up my skill to continue an Educational career that
my home country (Nepal) lacks. I will genuinely be back in my motherland and will apply for the
job with Australian skills, knowledge and degree after finishing my study. My only intention to go
to Australia is to acquire high-quality education in the field of Early Childhood Education and care
(ECEC) and get exposure to the latest technology so that after completing my intended courses, I
will be able to work independently to my level of professional competency. There are many
options and opportunities for the competent ECEC professional in my home country with
attractive remuneration and incentives which I have Friedrich Frobel, a German pedagogue, who
created the concept of kindergarten in the early eighteenth century in my home country, I will
have a high level of social reputation and recognition that I cannot expect anywhere across the
world. In addition, I would like to give due respect to my parents whose contribution to bringing
me to this stage is beyond my capacity to reciprocate equivalently even then I feel my social and
moral responsibility to support them during their old age for which I need to return to Nepal after
the completion of the intended course. At the end of the day, there are simply better
opportunities for somebody who has studied abroad, in their home rather than in an adopted
country. This is especially true for somebody who has studied Early Childhood Education and
Care. In Australia, there may be thousands of graduates like me, competing for jobs, & as
foreigner I might be at a disadvantage.
By contrast, there may be much fewer people with those types of skills when I return home. My
experience and educational skills might be at a premium, meaning that I can expect better-paid
jobs, faster career advancement, and the sort of opportunities that would never have been
afforded to me if they had stayed overseas.

IMMIGRATION HISTORY:
After deciding to gain degree from abroad, this is my first experience to apply for student visa
subclass 500. Until now, my visa application has neither been rejected nor accepted. So, I am
looking forward to a positive response to my student visa application for Australia.

VISA OBLIGATIONS
I understand the obligation of the student while studying and living in Australia. The obligations
under visa subclass 500 are as follows:

● I must maintain at least 80% attendance in my class and during the course.
● I need to timely inform the concerned authority in case of change in my address while
being in Australia.
● I need to maintain health insurance Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) during my
accommodation in Australia for study.
● I must maintain enrolment at the same level as when applying for a visa or go for a
higher level according to the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF). Transferring to
a course with a lower AQF or a course that is not AQF awarded will be considered as a
breach of the student condition and third can lead to visa cancellation.
● I need to have sufficient funds to meet my living expenses and also cover the course
fee.
● I cannot overstay in Australia once my Visa has expired.
● I cannot change my education provider until I have completed one semester of my
principal courses.

DECLARATION
To conclude, I humbly request to consider my application to study at VIE. I am well aware that
living in another country will be challenging for me and I am ready to take challenges and prove
myself and I am going to be a passionate, genuine learner from a distant land with a lot of
enthusiasm and positivity.
I would also like to mention that I will always endure myself within the rules and regulations as an
international student and make an edible time in Australia. I have complete faith in your
judgment, so I hope I will be given a chance to start my new journey, to exposure, dreams, and
growth, which all start from my global degree in strategic management.
I hope I will get the privilege of being a part of your esteemed institution. Thank you for
considering my application. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely Yours,
