1.) Hospital / Institutional Nursing
- Involves the largest group of
practicing nurses.
- Hospitals may be acute, long term
or rehabilitation care facilities.
- The clinical area of practice
determines the skills and knowledge
needed to practice.
- Takes care of in-patient and out-
patient clients.
- Plans for the nursing care needs of
the patients to be discharged.
- Participates in the activities in the
hospital: ( Research & Training,
Teaching Auxiliary Personnel and
Assisting in teaching and supervising
nursing & midwifery students.)
ADVANATGES:
 There’s always a SUPERVISOR
whom want can consult if
problem exist.
 Nurses are UPDATED with new
trends in medicine and nursing
care of patients.
 They undergo ROTATION to
different areas of assignment
before they are assigned
permanently.
 They have an 8 HOUR DUTY;
40 HOUR A WEEK which
provide for two days of rest away
from duty.
 They have provisions for SICK
LEAVE, HOLIDAYS AND
VACATIONS according to the
policy of institution.
 They have also chances to get
PROMOTED (PROMOTION)
if they are qualified.
 SALARY INCREASE are given
periodically acc to merit system.

DISADVANTAGES:
 There is a great possibility of
UNDERSTAFFING which may
require nurses to put into
overtime work and sacrifice
some of their plans.
 Some staff nurses do not find
time to improve their skills;
POSSIBILITY OF NO
CONTINUING EDUCATION
PROGRAMS.
 Problems and overwork will be
fall into DISSATISFACTION
of the staff nurses.
2.) Public / Community Health Nursing
 PUBLIC HEALTH NURSING
- Refers to the practice of nursing in
the local, national and city health
departments. Which includes the
HEALTH CENTERS & PUBLIC
SCHOOLS.

- Broader as it encompasses nursing
practice in variety of roles, which
includes INDEPENDENT
NURSING PRACTICE.
COMMUNITY BASED
PRACTICE:
- It focuses on HEALTH
PROMOTION &
MAINTENANCE,
COORDINATION, EDUCATION
& MANAGEMENT,
CONTINUITY OR
RESTORACTIVE CARE
 SCHOOL NURSING
- Services Includes : ( Health

- Care for students.
- School Nurses make REFFERALS
for STUDENT.

 OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH
- Provide health services to
employees.
- Nurses may developed programs :
(HEALTH PROMOTION,
DISEASE PREVENTION,
HEALTH EDUCATION)

3.) MILITARY NURSE

- Works at different health setting with

various levels of responsibilities.
- He/ She must have the professional,
personal, & other qualifications
commensurate w/ job
responsibilities.
- Nurse consciously & scientifically
intervenes in the health and illness
environment for the purpose of
ensuring the soldier, his family, &
other significant groups will have
adequate personal care,
maintenance, safety & comfort.
