Facts:

 June 2000, around 3:30 o’clock in the afternoon, 15 -year old Isabela and her
auntie, Veronica Aquino, were fetching water in a cave in Bataraza,
Palawan. Suddenly, Juan Alarcon arrived, running towards them carrying a
bolo. They tried to run away, but Alarcon overtook the, he held the hair of
Isabela and said “sumama ka sa akin kung hindi ay papatayin kita!”

 Aquino rushed to help Isabela’s rescue but Alarcon tried to hack her.
Luckily, she was able to shield herself with a plastic container. Isabela was
crying while she held her aunt’s hand. Alarcon then drew his gun, which was
tucked in his waist, pointed it at Aquino. Aquino, went home and reported
the incident to Isabela’s mother. When Aquino left, Alarcon’s father
appeared with a gun and told Isabela to go with them but she refused. The
father and son duo then tied her hands behind her back, covered her mouth
with a piece of cloth, and brought her to the forest.

 At the forest, Isabela was untied and undressed, leaving only her bra on.
While young Alarcon was undressing Isabela, she pleased with him not to
abuse her but he told her that if she would submit to his desire, her life
would be spared. He then held her breast, touched her private parts and
forced himself into her. Isabel resisted, but to no avail. She felt pain and she
noticed blood on her private part, She was sexually abused three times on
the ground. During the entire time that Isabela was being abused, Alarcon’s
father stood guard and watched them. They left the forest at around 10:00
o’clock the following day and brought Isabela to the house and shoot her if
she would attempt to escape.

 Two days later, Isabela’s mother came to get her but Egap refused and
threatened to kill her daughter if he would report the matter to the
authorities. Out of fear of losing her daughter, she went home and did not
report the incident to the police authorities.

 Ten days after, upon instruction of Egap, Isabela and Alarcon were married
by a Muslim imam. The marriage was solemnized against Isabela’s will and
without the presence of her parents. After the marriage, she stayed with
Alarcon and his mother. She did not try to escape because her house was
very far from the place where she was held captive, and her captors
threatened to kill her and her family if she would attempt to escape. During
her detention, Alarcon abused her twice every night. She was free to roam
within the vicinity of the house but she was usually accompanied by Egap’s
wife who served her guard. She was also guarded and threated by Egap’s
sons. She got pregnant after some time.
