This document outlines a proposed project to develop a prosthetic hand that attaches directly into the veins of an amputee. The goal is to help amputees in Manila, Philippines regain independence through mobility and everyday tasks. A team of biomedical engineers will surgically implant the prosthetic hand, then help the client through rehabilitation exercises and regular evaluations over multiple months to ensure the prosthetic improves their quality of life. Success will be measured by how well the prosthetic enhances the client's well-being and ability to perform activities according to evaluations by medical professionals on the team.

For the people that have lose their arm that need help. For many people, an artificial limb improves mobility, the capacity to accomplish everyday tasks, and the ability to maintain independence. A prosthetic hand can play a significant part in people's life. People with disabilities on the upper limbs, specifically, amputees. B. Overview of the Design Team The mission of the design team is to build a prosthetic hand that’s simple and practical for the amputee.

C. Overview of Proposed Project
The ultimate goal of rehabilitation after limb loss is to ambulate successfully with the use of a prosthesis and to return to a high level of social reintegration. Amputees will benefit greatly from this project. The planned target population to be served are amputees on hospitals in Manila, Philippines. This project helps fulfill the team’s mission by helping enhance an amputee's well being This project is unique since it attaches the prosthetic arm directly into the veins of the amputee which makes it work like a normal arm since it directly signals from the brain. D. Project Requirements and Constraints To finish the project in a matter of weeks. The materials are limited and we have to complete the project in a week or two. E. Project Activities and Timeline 1. What exactly must be done to achieve the desired outcomes? Planning – We’ll start planning our project when you've started it and gathered the necessary data on the client’s injury and accident. Initiation - We will assign the project team members, inform them of the overall project objectives, and ask the client or project owner as many questions as you can so that the project can be planned effectively. Pre-Operative – The focus is on the objective assessment looking at ROM and muscle power. Using assessment findings, knowledge of prosthetic componentry and gait patterns, provide a clinically reasoned recommended level of amputation to the consultant. Provide patient with appropriate exercises to aid post-amputation mobility. Operation – The group shall bring the client to an expert surgeon in order to surgically attach the prosthetic hand into the veins of the client, a form of agreement shall be made in order for this surgery to happen. Pre-Prosthetic Rehabilitation – Monitoring patient progress; counselling if required; Patient goals; deciding on prosthetic prescription with the whole team and all appropriate information. Exercise or Physical Therapy – The client will go through Prosthetic Rehabilitation, the physical therapist shall help the amputee prepare and recover after surgery. Physical therapists are movement experts. They improve quality of life through hands-on care, patient education, and prescribed movement.. Follow Up – Patient will be reviewed regularly by the consultant the physical therapist, and the prosthetic team. Assessing the individual is still suitable for prosthetic use, the prosthetic prescription is still the most appropriate option for the patient and any required changes are made to the prosthesis as the patient changes. Project Close – The project will be closed depending on the evaluation of the physical therapist on the client, if all the specifics and tasks have been finished and accepted by the client or project owner. 2. When, and in what order, must these activities be done to achieve the desired outcome? Planning – Initiation – Pre-Operative – Operation – Pre-Prosthetic Rehabilitation – Exercise or Physical Therapy – Follow up - Project Close 3. The team of engineers from the biomedical engineering. 4. The one who first started this project and the team is responsible for this project. F. 1. The long range results expected for this project is that it will help the client improve his/her quality of life experience and does not have to deal with the cons of having a disability. 2. This project will change the amputee's life by as mentioned above, improve his/her quality of life experience. This way, daily tasks wouldn’t be such a hassle for the client anymore. G. 1. The criteria of success of this project will be measured on how effective the prosthetic hand has helped improve the client’s well being 2. The client will be reviewed regularly by the consultant, the physical therapist, and the prosthetic team. The consultant and/or prosthetist may ask for physiotherapy input. For example, if the patient is having a change of prescription, their goals have changed, their mobility has decreased/increased 3. The one who will do the evaluation will be the hired physical therapist, the consultant, and the prosthetic team. The amputee will get evaluated once a month since that is the ideal time for evaluation. 4. The evaluation results will be used to determine if the client is still suitable for prosthetic use, the prosthetic prescription is still the most appropriate option for the patient and any required changes are made to the prosthesis as the patient changes.
