Chapter  Name some of the rivers that are located in India.
• Which is the longest river in India?
• Why population density is more near the river bank?
• Do you think that river effects the economic activities of the people?
Objective Students will be able to know:

How climate, topography, slope affect the river, three major stages of the river
system and various erosional and depositional landforms created by the river.
Major river systems of India
Importance of rivers in our daily life
To understand the river systems of the country and explain the role of rivers in the
evolution of human society.
The term drainage describe the river system of an area.
Any elevated area or an upland separates two drainage basins is known as water

Teaching
Methodology  Chapter will be introduced through simple questionnaire like (5-10 minutes)
Day-1  What all things you see on a physical map?
 What is the runoff of water in these rivers known as?
 What is the difference between natural and artificial
drainage?
 After getting satisfactory answers the educator will start the chapter through a
video. (11-20 minutes)
 Important points related with the video well be discussed. (21-27 minutes)
 Chapter (Topic: Drainage) will be introduced through NCERT reading and
explanation by the educator.

Day-2  Recapitulation will take place from video that was shown last day. (0-5
Minutes)
 Teacher will ask frequent questions to keep the students attentive and to know
their understanding level of the previous topic.
Q.1 Define drainage, drainage basin, and water divide?
Q2. Name the four types of drainage pattern?
Q3. On what basis different drainage patterns are formed?
 Then topic The Himalayan Rivers will be taken up with the help of NCERT
Book and explaining by the educator(25 minutes)
 Quick recap will be taken up of random questions related with the current
topic. (5 minutes)
Day-3  Recapitulation will be taken up through random questions. (5 Minutes) like:-

throughout the country?
 What are the two major groups of Indian rivers?
 What do you understand by the term drainage system?
 Name the three main Himalayan rivers?
 Describe the main features of Ganga river, Indus river and
Brahmaputra river?
 Then new topic The Peninsular Rivers will be taken up with special emphasis
on Map Work, Do you Know and Find out topics.
 Teacher will explain the formation & characteristics of peninsular rivers,
different stages of rivers. (30 Minutes)
 Recapitulation of topic and last day Homework will take place through Rapid
Day-4 Questioning like: (05-10 minutes)
 Q1. Give three features of the Godavari basin??
 Q2. Why are the rivers of the western coastal plain short?

trellis, rectangular and radial as well as their mode of formation.
Focus Spot:
Lakes.
