Quote Extra Credit

There is no such thing as luck

Luck is when preparation meets opportunity

You’re prepared and opportunity showed itself

--Donnie Wahlberg--

When I look/hear this quote over and over again it makes me feel like believing that luck is all

about being prepared to accept opportunities. “Luck Is What Happens When Preparation Meets

Opportunity". This reminds me that we make our own luck. The difference between lucky and

unlucky people, we've seen before, is all in our perspective. How I relate my quote to the

chapters/modules in the course is the Culture and Communication module because There is

evidence that inducing a luck-related superstition leads to better performance on a variety of

motor dexterity and cognitive tasks. However, some replication efforts have failed to succeed. At

the same time, the previous findings suggest that the effect of good luck belief on cognitive

performance interacts with gender. Several authors have suggested that some luck-related

superstitions might be beneficial to people. The authors also identified mediators of these effects:

increased self-efficacy, setting higher goals and greater task persistence (measured in seconds).
