2003 350Z BATTERY SERVICE PRECAUTIONS

APPLIED VEHICLE: 2003 350Z (Z33)

SERVICE INFORMATION
If the battery of a 350Z is disconnected while:
• the doors are closed and
• the windows are in the fully raised position
The top edge of the windows may hang up on the edge of the roof, when the doors are
opened or closed. This could damage the window, roof, or door glass run rubbers.
This car has a feature that lowers the window about 10 mm when the door is opened (see
Figure 1). This feature also raises the window about 10 mm to a “fully raised” position
when the door is shut. This is to reduce wind noise and decrease door-closing effort.

To help prevent damage to the window, roof, or door glass run rubbers during battery-
related service, see the Service Procedure in this bulletin for steps to take before:
• performing battery service, or
• performing any service that requires disconnecting the vehicle’s battery.
NOTE: A list of Service Procedures or situations that require disconnecting the battery
include but are not limited to the following:
• Installation of a Nissan accessory 6-disc CD changer,
• Installation of a Nissan accessory mirror with compass,
• Installation of a SRS Anti-theft Bolt Kit.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Open both the driver and passenger door. The system will automatically lower the
windows slightly.
2. Leave both doors open.
3. Disconnect the battery.
CAUTION:
Before re-connecting the battery, open the doors again (if they were closed during
service). This will help ensure that nothing will be caught between the window top edge
and the roof/weatherstrip area.
NOTES:
The battery for the new 350Z is located in the right rear (passenger side) corner of the
under-hood compartment (see Figure 2). To access the battery, Iift up on the battery
cover tab to release the cover. Then place your finger into the indentation to the right of
the tab to remove the battery cover (See figure 2).
