From the introduction of its first sports watch in 1959 and first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko has been
the choice of adventurers and explorers, leading in precision and durability while spearheading
innovations in both technology and design. Today, Prospex continues to honor this heritage with
re-creations and re-interpretations of such landmarks as the first diver’s watch with an outer case
protective structure and the first professional saturation diver’s model, while continuing to set new
standards with vigorous design and advanced technology.

Building on a long tradition of technological achievement, and dedicated to meeting
the challenges of the world’s harshest environments, Seiko Prospex remains a
standard for high-intensity timekeeping excellence.

Committed to protecting the environments in which high-intensity sport watch

excellence is essential, Prospex has also formed a vital partnership with the world’s
leading conservation organizations and today’s most intrepid adventurers, not
only meeting advanced technological specifications, but raising awareness through
such initiatives as the “Save the Ocean” campaign, featuring watches evoking
the majesty of polar landscapes and the vast marine world. U.S. Special Editions,
including the glacier themed Ice Diver, with uniquely textured and shaded dials, also
reflect the beauty and mystery of these challenging environments.

Offering a technological daring to match the spirit of its most demanding audience,
Prospex, a two-time winner of highest honors at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de
Genève, remains dedicated to expanding the limits of timekeeping excellence.

Continuing the legacy of the 1964 “Crown Chronograph” and the original 1969
“Speedtimer,” the world’s first self-winding chronograph, the new Speedtimer
mechanical chronographs, equipped with the 8R46 caliber column wheel and
vertical clutch movement, providing smooth and stutter-free chronograph timing
with reduced wear and tear, represent an exciting new category.

Combining an unmatched heritage of innovation with today’s most advanced technology and
craftsmanship, the Prospex LX stands as a signature achievement in Seiko’s renowned history of
sports watch excellence. Since the introduction of its first diver’s watch in 1965, Seiko has been
recognized as a leader for those who demand the highest degree of reliability and durability, with
the 1968 Seiko Professional Diver’s Watch, a particular favorite for its unprecedented functionality
and superb design. The legacy of this classic watch lives on in the Prospex LX, brilliantly updated
with Seiko’s proprietary precision Spring Drive movement. Mirroring
the robust lines of the 1968 design, the Prospex LX also provides
enhanced wearability and attention to detail. The center of
gravity of the case is lower to ensure a more comfortable
fit on any wrist, while the upper side of the case is set
at a more pronounced angle to allow the Zaratsu-
polished surfaces to shine more brightly. The broad
flat lines of the case reflect light perfectly—a
fitting illustration of the collection name, LX, from
“lux,” the Latin word for light.

The dream – an “everlasting watch” wound by a mainspring and providing one-second-a-day
accuracy. The dreamer, back in 1977 – young Seiko engineer Yoshikazu Akahane. It took
Akahane and his team 28 years – marked by countless setbacks, over 600 prototypes, and,
along the way, the invention of new technologies in virtually every aspect of watchmaking –
but, in 2005, the Seiko Spring Drive made this impossible dream come true.

Combining a precision mechanical movement with a quartz regulator, the Seiko Spring Drive
blends the best of classic and modern timekeeping technology. While the motive power is
in the mainspring, the tri-synchro regulator uses electromagnetic energy to transmit power to
the gear train, control the speed of the glide wheel and generate electricity to charge its own
crystal. The result is enhanced stability, durability and precision, with increased shock- and
temperature-resistance, and a power reserve of up to 72 hours. A perfect choice for high-
intensity timekeeping, Seiko Spring Drive watches have been worn both in space, at the
International Space Station and on a spacewalk, and atop Mount Everest.

in undersea watches. In commemoration of an extraordinary
legacy, this landmark design has been reinterpreted with
contemporary styling, upgraded materials, and a superior
24-jewel automatic movement. Crafted of stainless steel in a
sleek 40.5mm case, this exceptional design is newly offered in
a Save The Ocean Special Edition, with an intricately patterned
dial inspired by Antarctic glacial formations, and in variations
with Seiko’s first ever “Seichu” fabric strap, providing enhanced

THE 1970 DIVER’S MODERN
RE-INTERPRETATION

The first man to conquer the highest peaks on five

continents, Naomi Uemura brought Seiko’s 1970 diver’s
watch—known for its water resistance, durability, and iconic
case design—on many of his journeys. To commemorate
Uemura on what would have been his 80th birthday, Seiko
has reinterpreted this favorite watch with a dial design
reflecting the texture and brilliance of the ice and snow he
encountered and upgraded it with a hand-assembled 8L35
mechanical movement. New to this collection is a Black
Series Limited Edition with rich black case and bracelet and
vibrant red-orange accents evoking the early dawn light
breaking through the dark ocean waters.

BUILT FOR THE ICE DIVER

Building on the success of the first generation

Prospex “Built for the Ice Diver” series, the 2021
Special Editions are based on the iconic 1970
Diver’s watch, a favorite of daring explorer Naomi
Uemura, whose pioneering polar explorations
are mirrored in the new designs. Capturing the
ever-changing colors of polar ice, transformed as
it catches the light in different ways throughout the
day, the intricate dials are patterned to suggest sled
tracks in the frozen wilderness.

MODERN INTERPRETATION OF THE 1975 DIVER’S WATCH

It was a challenge. By the late ’60s, Seiko had become a leader in professional diver’s watches, famed for creating the first 300-meter
water-resistant model – but then came a letter from a saturation diver claiming that no watch could withstand the conditions of his
dangerous deep water job. It took seven years and, in the process, generated 20 patents, but, in 1975, Seiko redefined underwater
timekeeping with an ungainly and extraordinary 600-meter water resistant watch. Its one-piece case, in light and durable titanium,
bolstered by an outer case shroud, provided an unprecedented degree of security, while an L-shaped gasket made it impervious to
helium without the use of an escape valve. An innovative accordion-style strap kept the watch secure on the wrist whatever the ambient
pressure. Testing by members of the Japanese Antarctic Research Expedition (JARE) confirmed its dependability in the toughest
conditions. Today, the acclaimed original, with the can-like shape prized by fans, has inspired new Prospex saturation diver’s models,
upgraded from previous designs with improved specifications. Offering enhanced legibility for undersea conditions with arrow shaped
minute hands, simple geometric indices and narrower bezel markers, S23631 features a one-piece titanium inner case with the iconic
ceramic outer shroud and boasts an astounding 1,000 meter water resistance.

Among the most extraordinary eras for Seiko was the 1960s, marked by landmark
achievements in both technology and design. A signature release was the classic dress/sport
King Seiko KSK from 1965, prized for its blend of technical excellence and distinctively modern
lines. Now this signature piece is re-created in two Limited Edition models, with the signature
wide, angular lugs of the original, maintaining its majestic angles and dignified appearance.
In addition to the Limited Edition models, new re-interpretations add a modern touch to the
distinctively regal King Seiko collection. A newly developed slim case and the thin 6R31
automatic movement, with a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, make the timepieces
exceptionally slender and elegant, with a case thickness of only 10.33 mm. Each features a
sunray dial with meticulously cut three-dimensional indices including the signature carved 12
o’clock marker, a combination mirror polish and hairline finished stainless steel case, and a King
Seiko emblem on the caseback—all characteristic of the original models.

Crafted of stainless steel with super-hard coating, the
Limited Editions both feature a stunning sunray finish dial
with a specially textured marker at 12 o’clock, a crown
with a “W” insignia signifying “water-resistance,” and a

Each stunningly crafted Presage reflects an extraordinary heritage of artistry in design and
timekeeping, capturing the essence of classic and contemporary Japanese style. From artisanal
creations to fresh inspirations, every timepiece is a unique work of art, showcasing the beauty
of the materials, with sapphire crystals for the utmost in clarity, and see-through casebacks
offering a view of the best in mechanical watchmaking.

The Sharp-Edged Series conveys the cool angularity of today’s Japanese aesthetic, bracingly
contemporary but suffused with a sense of history. Inspired by energy itself, the subtly intricate
dial pattern is based on the traditional Asanoha hemp leaf motif of the Heian Period (794-
1185 AD), a symbol of growth and prosperity, while the crisply angled cases and bracelets
make the strength and beauty of stainless steel a design element in and of itself. Expressing
an equally strong reverence for the vital legacy of traditional artistry, the Craftsmanship Series
continues to showcase the intricacies of the work of master artisans, with hand-wrought dials
in such materials as Arita porcelain, as well as exquisite enamel work and fine Urushi lacquer.
With a shared sense of artistry and attention to detail, each Presage is a masterwork.

Series, used to create high-strength, three-
dimensional dials, individually crafted by master
artisans in a multi-step process combining technical
innovation with centuries of inspiration. In Hakuji
(pure white) or Rurizome (pale blue), the elegant
Roman numeral dial is uninterrupted by subdials or
inserts to showcase the beauty of the porcelain.

GL OSSARY

Anti-reflective coating:
A coating on the watch crystal, typically on the inside, that helps reduce glare and reflected light.

Black super-hard coating:

A special type of black coating that is almost twice as hard as stainless steel. Unlike simple ion plating, this
type of coating provides improved scratch-resistance and increases the long-term durability of cases and
bracelets.

Ever-Brilliant Steel:
New stainless steel material with increased corrosion resistance. It has a PREN (pitting resistance equivalent
number) value that is 1.7 times higher than the steel used in most high-end watches.

LumiBrite:
Seiko’s proprietary luminous material on markers, hands, and/or bezels. On many of our new Luxe diver’s
watches, special long-lasting LumiBrite coating on the hands ensures legibility at greater depths for longer than
ever before (up to 60% longer).

Saturation Diver:
A diver’s watch that is at least 300m water resistant and is appropriate for both regular scuba diving and
mixed gas diving, when divers stay in a pressurized environment for an extended period
of time.

Spring Drive:
A proprietary Seiko technology combining classic mechanical timekeeping with a quartz regulator for superior
accuracy.

Super-clear coating:
A coating on both sides of the watch crystal that helps reduce glare and reflected light. Super-clear coating
cuts more light and provides more legibility than anti-reflective coating, but can be applied only to crystals of
certain shapes.

Super-hard coating:
A special type of clear coating that is almost twice as hard as stainless steel. This helps protect from scratching
and allows the watch case and bracelet to remain durable over time.

Tri-synchro regulator:
Developed by Seiko as part of its proprietary Spring Drive technology, this system controls the mainspring’s
mechanical energy, converts a small part of this energy into electricity to power the quartz oscillator, and
generates a magnetic force to regulate the speed of the glide wheel.

Uni-directional elapsed timing bezel:

Bezel that turns in one direction, typically used for diver’s watches where accurate measurement is essential.
Allows wearers to track elapsed time and the duration of a dive.

Vertical clutch:
In an automatic chronograph, instead of being laterally laid out, the gears are integrated into the wheel train.
This allows the gears to line up every time, which reduces wear and unintended movement of the second
hand. This system also allows the chronograph to run continuously without affecting long term precision.
