TITLE
1. Measuring Techniques and Instruments for dimensions of objects.

Introduction
2. It is very important to learn measuring methods before working in workshop practice. The instruments
used in these measurements are of high precision and their current usage has to be learnt by all those working
in workshop.

Objective:
3. To introduce to the students measuring techniques of common instruments used in a workshop.

Requirements
4. Following items are required for conduct of this demo and practical exercise:
a. Vernier caliper.
b. Micro meter
c. Thread Gauge
d. Sheet Metal Gauge
e. Depth Gauge
f. Profile Projector
g. Drawing of the specimen job without dimensions.
h. A sample piece as per the drawing.

Procedure
5. Students will acquire themselves with different measuring instruments and calculate the error and
least count where necessary the demonstrator will demonstrate the use.
6. Carry out measurement of the specimen to as accurate as possible level and mark them on the
drawing.

Special Instructions
7. Each reading must be taken at least twice.
8. Ensure that the instruments are calibrated and corrected against zero error.
