STEPS TIME INTERACTION


PATTERN

WARM-UP

- Say hello to students. Tell them we are going to play a guessing game.
- Play two different animal sounds (a bird and a monkey) and make
3 minutes Teacher-
students guess what animal it is.
- After they guess, ask: Can a bird fly? Can a bird climb a three? Can a students
monkey sing? Can a monkey jump? Show students pictures of these
animals doing the actions.
- Present the class rules.
- Present the objective of the class: Today we will talk about skills (what we
can/can’t do).

PRESENTATION

- Ask students: Do you have skills? Remind them that skills are what we
can do, we say “I can_______”. Give students an example “I can swim”.
- Show pictures of different activities: swimming, playing soccer, riding a 4 minutes Teacher-
students
bicycle, etc. and call students by their names and tell them to create
sentences such as: “I can swim” or “I can’t play soccer”. Also, show the
negative form such as “I can’t ride a bicycle”.
- Show them pictures of three people:

Harry
Professor Bloom

Hip

- Ask students: What do you think they can do? Listen to the students'
predictions.

PRACTICE

- Tell students to read the exercise before the audio: 4 minutes


- Put the audio and tell students to match with the correct picture.

- Check the answers by asking them to say the sentences like: Professor
Bloom can run very fast.
- Ask students to read the following dialog:
A: Can you play basketball? Student-
B: No, I can’t. Student
A: What activity can you do?
B: I can ride a bike.
A: wow, that’s great!
- Organize students in pairs and send them to interview their partner
about his/her abilities. Remind them that to ask a question, they say: Can
you ________? and to give an answer: Yes, I can ______ or No, I can’t
_______. Give them a list of activities they can ask about and tell them to
screenshot it just in case.
- When they are back from the breakout rooms, ask them to tell what skills
her/his partner has.
PRODUCTION

- Indicate that students will create their own superhero. They can draw it 3 minutes Student-
using kidmons. https://es.kidmons.com/juego/paint-online/ or a piece of students
paper if they want. Students must think about the superpowers their
superheroes have. Model with an example and present different
superpowers to give them ideas.
- When they finish drawing, show them a quick model for a presentation:

My superheroine’s name is _______________. She/he can__________.

- Remind students that they can ask questions to their classmates such as:

Can your superhero ____________?

- Send them into breakout rooms to present their superhero to their


classmates. Enter every room to monitor the presentation.
- At the end, some students can share his/her superhero’s skills to the
class.

FOLLOW – UP

- Students create questions about skills and interview one relative. Show 1 minute Teacher-
students the prompt to emphasize how to ask for a skill: Can you students
________? For example: Can you ride a bike?
- Tell students to write down the answers they obtained to share them for
next class.
