ASSIGNMENT 4 | CLIENT PITCH

ONLINE - INFLUENTIAL BLOGGER
We are reaching out to Katie Bingham-Smith at Scary Mommy via Facebook. She has 3 teens and 2
children. She would be a great person to pitch as she has covered social media platforms and even has
covered a trend on TikTok. Her linkedin “about” section says that she writes about parenting which is
key for this pitch as we want parents to be aware of the steps TikTok is taking to improve safety and
also make parents aware of the steps they can take to ensure their children are only seeing content
they are comfortable with.

TikTok to address child-user safety concerns - Exclusive Story

Good morning Katie,

Hope all is well with you. Members of our Tik Tok team have come across your article “I Tried TikTok’s
Food-Coloring LipStain Trick - And I’m Kind Of Obsessed '' and loved it! Unfortunately, with the uptake
of trends like this one, there has been an increase of concern for younger Tik Tok users. However, we
are proud to exclusively announce that Tik Tok is working towards implementing new standards
surrounding safety on their application.

TikTok will be hosting a seminar for parents and guardians to introduce, and verify them on new safety
protocols for users of the ages of 6-18 on the app.

We would love for you to be one of the first to hear of the measures being taken. The seminar will be on
October 22 at Culver City Hall. At the end, there will be a Q&A session where parents are encouraged
to bring questions and concerns. Attached below is a press release with more information.

Based on your previous work, the community you created and the sole fact that you are a parent,
TikTok would love you to be a part of making a difference towards creating a safer environment for all.

The forum will be open to only 2 influential bloggers. Please let me know if you would be willing to
attend the event and write a blog post about the new features.

Best,
TikTok Team

TikTok to discuss new safety features and concerns- Exclusive Interview

We are reaching out to Gary Kohatsu, who is the editor of the Culver City News. He is a great person to
pitch because he has relevance within the city of our headquarters. As he knows a lot of news and
events going on in the area, this would be beneficial for our seminar. He would like to be reached by
email. Here is our pitch.

Hi Gary,

Hope all is well! My name is Emma and I work with TikTok, the social media application.

Kids of all different ages are using Tik Tok, but we understand there have been many concerns
regarding the safety of those users. Our goal is to create a safe space for everyone who uses our app.

TikTok is an app where users can either post or watch videos for entertainment purposes. Videos that
last from 15 seconds to ten minutes are reaching audiences from all over the world.

I am writing to let you know that we are hosting a seminar to explain new features that the app added to
promote safety. We are going to listen to parents via a question and answer and we hope you will
attend the event.

You would love for you to cover this event because of your prior experience and expertise in this field.
As you are the editor for Culver City News, this could be helpful as this is where are headquarters are
based.

We are offering you an exclusive interview with Eric Han, the head of safety at TikTok if you choose to
cover this event. This coverage will be beneficial to both our company and yours.

Let me know if you would be interested in speaking to TikTok leaders. We are looking forward to
hearing from you. Thanks in advance.

TikTok to address child-user safety concerns - Exclusive Retreat

We are reaching out to Andrea Saul, the VP and Global Head of Communications at Instagram. We
want to reach out to her because she handles the PR at Instagram and can help coordinate a safety
seminar with TikTok and announce it to the public. She would like to be reached through email to
potentially collaborate with TikTok.

Good morning Andrea Saul,

Hope all is well with your team. With the influence social media apps have on young children and young
adults, our TikTok team feels as if it is our responsibility to create a positive and safe environment in the
online world. We are especially excited to announce that we are adding new features to our application
to increase our safety measures.

We will be hosting a seminar for parents and guardians of TikTok users to introduce, and educate them
on new safety protocols for users of the ages of 6-18 on the app. Parents and guardians are
encouraged to come with any questions or concerns, which we will address in the Q&A session at the
end of the seminar.

Your platform has proven to be one of the most leading and action-oriented social media platforms. We
would love to collaborate with your team at our safety seminar. We welcome you to attend and share
any advice, comments, or new information about Instagram. The seminar will take place on October 23
at 7 p.m. at Culver City Hall, Culver City, California.

With the communities both of our platforms have created, we can influence positive change and
promote safety through social media.

Let us know if you are interested in working with us at our safety seminar. We look forward to hearing
from you.

Best,
TikTok Team
