State FOU’s in Scenarios

FOU’ are basically stands for Feasibility, Originality and Utility. Without these, in

research topic we could not be able to conduct the reliable research.

Feasibility

Feasibility of research should be done before a main study to answer the

question/problem, Can this study under approach or access of researcher or not?

Originality

Originality means that the work is your own, not copied from a source, and that

your research idea is fresh, and adds new knowledge to the field.

Utility

“The state or quality of being useful”. The amount to which a study benefits an

individual’s demand or need determines it’s utility.

Example 1

“A researcher who lives in Karachi, and he wants to study the prevalence of

Prenatal maternal stress among pregnant women following a natural disaster (flood)

across Sindh”.

Rationale

The researcher will follow the Time Constraints because of accessibility as he is

living in that particular area. Through purposive sampling technique, Researcher will able

to know more about the opinions and experiences of pregnant women following a natural
3

disaster (Feasibility).Primarily, recent updated research will not present on this topic but

If any research already present on this topic, through literature review we can assess and

will refurbish by working on the previous limitations or by working on other variables

which will give updated outcome and will show different ratio of prenatal maternal stress

(Originality). It is enriched with ethical constraints. Through this we can update

worldwide the prevalence of prenatal maternal stress which occurred due to flood among

pregnant women. It involves objective interpretation which will show highly rated data

(utility).

Conclusion

We can say that FOU’s of research are met in this example so we can further

proceed on this topic.

Example 2

“A researcher who lives in abroad and wants to see the prevalence or cross-

cultural differences of LGBTQ in eastern and western societies”.

Rationale

As LGBTQ is common in western societies rather than eastern societies and our

DSM also extracted the homosexuality term from the disorders timeline, so it would be

considered normal not a disorder or abnormality. It will not productive research to check

in western society.

As a researcher is living in western community so only western society would be

accessible to him but he wants to check prevalence of LGBTQ in eastern society too. The
4

researcher will not be able to follow the time constraints or have not enough accessories.

(Feasibility). As the researches on LGBTQ in eastern societies are not available because

it is prevailing in this era rather than western societies. Before this research, nobody

check the cross culturally, the prevalence of LGBTQ. Emerging youngsters of eastern

societies are adopting western culture through which the LGBTQ took initiation in

eastern culture which was not studied before (originality).

Through this we will be able to see how much eastern societies adopted. Or this

research will purposefully will indicate the effects of LGBTQ on religion, spirituality,

culture and social affairs of eastern community. But for this purpose we need the views

through questionnaires or surveys. If a researcher do research through mobile

ethnography, there is a possibility of errors because ethnographic research can run the

risk of observer bias. Writing an ethnography involves subjective interpretation which

will not show precise ratio of prevalence, so it will not follow the ethical constraints

(utility).

Conclusion

The FOU’s of research are not successfully filling the gap so it does not seem

reasonable.
