5. Ride description
The ride vehicle is propelled by electric motors powered by on-board batteries;
batteries are rechargeable and replaceable.
Ride vehicle features sensors which detect its position on the track; entering into a
specific section of the track may switch the way the trolley is controlled, into one of
the following modes:
 Manual mode: participant is able to control the ride by themselves; speed cannot
be reduced below a pre-programmed automatic speed to avoid participants
getting stuck on the line;
 Automatic mode: until the end of the particular section, the trolley speed is set
to a pre-programmed value; participant cannot manually control trolley speed.
This automatic mode includes setting speed to zero, i.e. trolley is completely
stopped.

 Service mode: trolley can only be operated by using the remote control of the
operator. Trolley throttle is not active in this mode.
Ride speeds:
 Maximum speed: 20.0 km/h
 Automatic speed: 10 km/h
 Dwell speed: 1 km/h
The ride features a safety gate which is part of the control system. The safety gate
is locked or unlocked automatically when the trolley passes through certain
locations on the track where proximity sensors are installed.
The track segments are as follows:
 Start segment. Ride control: automatic. This is the first section of the ride
from the initial start to a position after the first set of sensors which lock the start
gate. The trolleys are moving automatically in this section with dwell speed.
 Ride segment. Control: manual. After the trolley passes the first ride zone,
control switches to manual and the participants can control their speed.
Participants cannot stop the trolleys and they are always moving with a speed at
least equal to the automatic speed.
 End of the ride. Ride control: automatic. When the trolley passes along the
next set of magnets, it switches to automatic mode again and moves with dwell
speed at the end of the ride. The trolley eventually stops automatically at the last
magnets right above the unloading station and switches to service mode.

Normal Ride operation

Participants are required to use the safety harness from
the moment they are entering the staircase, during their
stay on the platform till the moment they exit the staircase
of the ride. The harness must be always connected to a
safe anchoring point in the belay channel at the station.
The lanyard between the harness and the anchor bolt can
be disconnected from the harness only if the participant is
safely secured in the Rollglider harness.
After the participant finish the ride his safety harness has
to be secured back to the lanyard which is attached to an
anchor bolt .
Failure to observe this requirement can lead to falling of
participant from the station or even death!
The entrance and exit doors must be closed at all times.
Leaving the doors opened while there is a participant on
the ride may lead to severe injury!

1. The SPO puts the safety harness on the participant (section 11.8)
2. SPO attaches the participant to the belay channel lanyard.

3. SPO opens the entrance door of the attraction and welcomes the participant. SPO
makes sure the door is properly closed after entry.
4. SPO asks the participant to step into the Rollglider harness (section 11.6)
attached to the trolley and prepares them for the ride, and gives instruction to
the participant how to use the trolley while doing so.
5. SPO detaches the belay channel lanyard from the safety harness of the
participant.
6. The participant activates the trolley and starts the ride.
7. During the ride, there may be several points where control switches between
manual and automatic as described above; zones of automatic control are at the
start and the end of the ride as well as longer accents, so as not to cause the
trolley to return back when throttle is released.
8. After the participant reaches the end of the ride, the trolley is stopped
automatically at the end station when a signal is received by one of the on-board
magnetic sensors. The EPO awaits the participant and the trolley at the end
platform.
9. EPO Lifts up the End Buffer and the participant activates the trolley to the end
station
10. After the participant`s arrival on the End station the Control System will allow
another trolley to be released on the track.
11. The SPO can open the Safety Gate and release another participant on the track
12. The EPO attaches the participant’s safety harness to the platform’s belay system.
13. EPO detaches the participant from the trolley (section 11.7).
14. EPO leads the participant away from the restricted zone and closes the exit door
behind them.
15. Once outside the Ropes Course/Rollglider attraction the Entrance operator
deataches the safety lanyard and removes the safety harness from the user
(section 11.9).

6. Daily inspection / ride opening procedure

6.1. Ride track - visual inspection
All present staff members perform a tour of the facility, with the task of discovering
issues with the track and the ride itself which may not be otherwise apparent. The
whole facility are is covered, when possible, by all staff members individually.
A complete list of issues to look for is impossible to provide, though the most
common and readily apparent problems are listed below:
 Obstructions on the line or in the safety zone of the line. For outdoors
facility, this is commonly a fallen tree, or a branch. Any sort of object leaning
on, or coming too close to the track represents a possible danger to the
participants of the ride. The obstruction is carefully photographed and removed
from the line.

 Rope termination failure. A rope connector or terminal may experience failure,

in which case the corresponding end of the rope may fall down and get in the way
of e.g. retraction system or the track. Ropes with failed terminals are easy to
spot, and need to be reattached. Written permission from ride manufacturer is
mandatory to allow operation of the facility before the rope is repaired.
 Slackened rope. These ropes do not represent an inherent danger or structural
instability by themselves, but need to be tightened at the next maintenance
period. Position of the rope is noted and photographed. When more than two
adjacent ropes attached to the same column or anchor have slackened
significantly, they need to be re-tightened before operation of the facility can
continue.

6.2. Platform inspection

6.2.1. Platform railings
 All other railings on the start platform must be firmly attached to the platform
and their respective panes present and secured.

6.2.2. Doors

full ones.
6. Start the empty trolleys one by one on the track and let all of them complete
one full run empty. Observe at all times during the trial run and make sure the
trolleys and the traffic control system behave as expected.
7. Make sure all of the remote controls for the trolley work correctly. While at the
start station, use them to move each of the trolleys back and forth. Start with the
last trolley on the platform, move it with the remote some 20 meters back, then
do the same with the rest of the remote controls. Observe distances between
trolleys and do not allow them to come close or in contact with each other.
8. When all remote controls are successfully tested, use them to bring all trolleys
back to the station. Remember to reset all trolleys (section 10.5).
9. Make one complete run with each trolley. Use the throttle intermittently during
the ride to ensure the throttle responds to user input.
When all these procedures are successfully completed, the ride is ready for use.

8. Ride closing procedure

At the end of the operating day, the ride is closed down and prepared for the next
working day. The following operating tasks must be performed:
 Collect all trolleys in the end of the ride
 Take away all batteries from the trolleys and place them in storage. Batteries
with less than full charge (green light on the throttle is off when the trolley is
powered up) are connected to chargers.
 Collect all harnesses and helmets and place them in storage.
 Remove all operator cards from the control system.
 Close and lock all entry and exit doors to the facility
 Fill in the log book and update the number of operating hours of the trolleys that
have been used during the day. The number of operating hours of the trolley is
calculated by dividing the number of hours the facility has been opened for the
day, divided by the number of trolleys on the line for the day.

9. Components of the Electrical Rollglider amusement ride

9.1. Main components of the Electrical Rollglider Trolley
GENERAL WARNING
The Rollglider trolley is powered by electrical motors and has
movable parts; while the participant is well protected from these
hazards during the ride, it is of utmost importance to always turn

operation use. To avoid risk of battery running too low, operators must replace the
battery every 6 hours; it is recommended that a service break of 10-15 minutes is
scheduled every shift to swap all trolley batteries with fully charged ones, and put
the used batteries to charge.

WARNING
Lithium-ion batteries may be dangerous when
mishandled. The following safety precautions must
be observed at all times to avoid personal injury
and/or property damage. Lithium-ion batteries can
cause burns, fires and even explosions when not
handled correctly!
 Do not drop, throw, smash, destroy or otherwise
cause mechanical damage to the batteries.
 The batteries have no serviceable parts inside.
Do not attempt to open or disassemble them
under any circumstances.
 Store the batteries away from direct sunlight in
a completely enclosed storage space at room
temperature (20-25°C).

Trolleys have remote controls that are used exclusively by the operators for
maintenance as well as in emergency situations.
Each trolley has its own remote control, and the remotes are colour-marked to which
trolley they are paired.
Remote controls use 4x1.5V AA batteries.

9.6.1. Remote control safety instructions

WARNING
Usage of remote control overrides some of the safety
functions of the control system. Irresponsible use can
cause severe injury to participants and operators.
Always make sure you are using the remote control for
the trolley you intend to override.
Operate the steering wheel gently to avoid
uncomfortable jerking of the participants.
The remote control must be used only in cases of
maintenance and emergency.
The remote is not a toy; under no circumstances should
it be used to alter the ride experience of the participants
without an actual cause.

Pressing the trigger signals the trolley to come into a compete stop, regardless of the
mode it is currently in. This may cause the trolley to stop on an incline and be unable
to climb it due to lack of momentum.
Once under remote control, the trolley cannot be controlled any longer by the
operators, eve in segments of the track that normally allow it.
In remote control mode, the trolley can go forward as well as backwards.

9.6.2. How to operate the trolley remotely:

 Hold the remote in your left hand
 Turn on the remote control by flipping the on/off switch
 Pull the trigger all the way to the handle and hold it
 Rotate the wheel slowly; clockwise direction to cause the trolley to move forward,
counter-clockwise direction to move backwards. Try to hold it at constant position
to ensure smooth motion of the trolley while influenced by remote control.
 Release the wheel slowly to neutral position to cause the trolley to stop; adjust
position by rotating the wheel at small angles to keep the speed low.
 When the trolley is at the desired position, release the trigger.
 Turn off the remote control to conserve its power and avoid inadvertently
triggering it.

Do not adjust lanyards beyond recommended limits; this

may result in impact of participants’ extremities with an
object outside the ride safety envelope!

12. Decommissioning of personal protective equipment

Personal protective equipment has a predetermined life; it should not be used beyond
the date specified by the manufacturer. The equipment is decommissioned after its
service life has elapsed; continued use of equipment which has exceeded it service
life is dangerous and can put ride participants in a risk of serious injury or even death.
Equipment is also decommissioned also when it has been involved in a major
accident; even if equipment is apparently in a good working order, it should be
decommissioned and scheduled for destruction after investigation of the incident is
concluded.
Equipment which shows signs of wear beyond what is considered safe is also
decommissioned.
The procedure that follows is a general procedure of how to decommission personal
protective equipment.
 After equipment is deemed unsafe (individual criteria for each piece of equipment
may vary, see the respective text in section “Equipment inspection”), it is clearly
marked as such as follows:
 Carabiners and quicklinks: Tie tightly a zip tie around the gate and the
spine of the connector
 Helmets: Tie together the side straps of the helmet with a zip tie so that it
cannot be put on.
 Safety harnesses: Tie the connecting eyes together with a zip tie so that the
harness cannot be put on.
 Lanyards: Place the long end of the lanyard through the attachment buckle.
Tie a zip tie around the buckle so that the end of the lanyard cannot be easily
pulled through again.
 Equipment is photographed, with its serial / batch number visible, as well as the
damage or failure which lead to its decommissioning. Storage and reproduction
of said photographs is responsibility of the facility owner and is organized by them.
Photographs of faulty or decommissioned equipment may be requested by ride
manufacturer to confirm that the equipment is indeed faulty, and to determine
cause of damage.
 Decommissioning of the equipment is detailed in the Log Book of the ride as well
as the Technical Passport. In both occasions, the serial number or batch number
of the equipment is noted as well.
 Decommissioned equipment is stored in another, locked, physical location away
from the equipment currently in use, to serve as an evidence in case of an

investigation from the manufacturer or other interested party. If the equipment

being decommissioned has not been involved in an accident, it may be destroyed
or sent back to the ride manufacturer, subject to written approval from the ride
manufacturer. Procedure for destruction and disposal of the decommissioned PPE
is covered by the user manual of the respective equipment.

13. Maintenance and repair
