Asking for Things in a Store

In a clothing store, you can ask for the size and the color you want.

Sizes

Different countries and stores have different ways of measuring sizes.

In North America, sizes of clothes like coats and shirts are often measured in words: small,
medium or large.

These words are often written in the letter form:


XS = extra small
S = small
M = medium
L = large
XL = extra large

Shoes are usually measured in numbers (7 - 13).

Belts and jeans are usually measured by the size of the person's waist (28” - 40”). The "
sign means inches (= 2.5 cm).

Dresses are usually measured in numbers (0 - 18).
