We are made in God’s image

Since I was a child, I was taught that humans were created by God. Now I have the trust
that we have been created through Him and made to be reflections of God's character out
into the world.

In the Word of God, it is said that "Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in
our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the
livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and
female he created them (Genesis 1:26-27, NIV). To know that I am a being created by God is
an honor for me. This makes me responsible in some places because I know that I represent
Him through my behavior and through my actions. God has created all things and He makes
humans in His image to rule the world on his behalf. Humans choose to sin and rebel, so the
world spins out of control into violence and death. But in Genesis 9:16 is written that
"Whoever sheds human blood, by humans shall their blood be shed; for in the image of God
has God made mankind." God continues to give us the opportunity to do right with his
world, but we continue to destroy it through our actions. We all have chosen to define good
and evil for ourselves, and we all contribute to the world of a broken relationship, leading to
conflict, violence, and ultimately death. But in this world, there are also people who
represent our Creator and try to influence others for the better.

Now the key is that humans have a choice about how they will go about building this
world, represented by the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Dignity and freedom are
choices for all of us.
