Subject The Water Cycle

Objective cycle and water is important to life on Earth. Key ideas include
a) there are many reservoirs of water on Earth;
b) the energy from the sun drives the water cycle; and
c) the water cycle involves specific processes.
Content

In this interactive white board activity, the children will touch the board to label a cycle, write
out predictions and ideas and learn about the water cycle and different forms of water.
Pedagogy Planning

Activity This activity is a great introductory lesson to the water cycle. It has information
slides, videos, sliding questions, a sorting game, and space to write ideas.

1. First the student will be directed to sit on the carpet in front of the IWB and
the teacher will read the introductory slide and the Check Your
Understanding (slide 3) slide, students will respond by giving a thumbs up
for yes, thumbs up for no, and a middle thumb for I don’t know.
2. On slide 4, the teacher will give students turns to walk up to the board and
brainstorm their responses by writing words or pictures that describe what
rain is.
3. For slides 5- 13, the students will take turns popcorn reading and sliding the
mystery questions out of the corners. The teacher will pause often for class
discussion. The students will be using the writing pen for ideas that are
brought up in discussion and write them directly on slide.
4. For slides 14 and 15, the students will be watching two videos that are
embedded in the class flow, the teacher will probe questions during videos
and after.
5. For slide 16 the students will drag the words to the correct location on the
water cycle map.

 6. On slide 17, the students will use their hands to hold up the number of
fingers that correspond to their own personal understanding.
7. On slide 18, the teacher will wrap up the lesson by reviewing the vocabulary
on the last slide, the students will copy the word and definition into their
science notebooks back at their desk.
