Mission Statement

I have included both personal and professional aspirations and goals into my mission statement
as a music educator. Not only do I want my students to display musical growth, I also want to
continue to grow personally and professionally in my craft. My hope and goal for my mission
statement is that it will guide my everyday practices and what I do with and for my students.
With that, here is my mission statement as a music educator. 
I aspire to:
 Be a loving mother and wife first and foremost.
 Build positive relationships with students, colleagues, administrators, parents, and the
community.
 Provide a safe and positive environment in which my students can learn and grow.
 Assist my students in developing social and life skills they can use now and later in life,
such as kindness, respect, determination, hard work, and responsibility.
 Encourage an appreciation for music and the arts in my students and those that
surround me.
 Ensure my students benefit socially, emotionally, and musically as a result of their music
education.
 Enrich my students’ social interactions by creating opportunities for them to play music
together.
 Assist students in following and achieving their dreams and goals.
 Inspire a lifelong love of learning music by creating lessons that are authentic, exciting,
and engaging to my students.
 Grow personally and professionally by not being afraid to change my ways of thinking.
 Be a strong communicator and advocate for music education.

1. Why does my program exist?
a. My program exists so that Hayward Elementary School students in grades K-5 have
quality access to music education and can benefit socially, emotionally, and musically.
2. What “lessons of life” do I want to instill in my students?
a. I want to instill social skills and how to work collaboratively with others. I also want to
instill discipline and having a growth mindset.
3. What musical concepts do I want to provide for my students?
a. Steady Beat, Comparatives, Rhythm, Pitch, Form, Pattern Recognition, Aural Skills,
Proper Vocal Techniques, Composers, Musicianship
4. What will make my program unique or recognizable?
a. Relationships I build with students, staff, administrators, parents, and community
b. My students’ love for music

5. What do I plan to achieve in two years, five years, and ten years?
a. Attain a Master’s Degree (2 Years)
b. Attend MLT Workshops (2 Years)
c. Orff Certification (5 Years)
d. Kodaly Certification (5 Years)
e. Learn Spanish to Communicate Better with Students and Families (2-5 Years)
f. Possibly Earn a Doctorate (10 Years)
6. When you hire other staff members, what should their most important qualities be?
a. A love for teaching children, a passion for teaching music, and a willingness to
collaborate for the greater good of the music program
7. If you could clearly communicate one message to your students, what would it be?
a. Follow your dreams and don’t give up on them. Do not let anyone tell you what you can
or cannot do. You can do anything you set your mind to!
My most important thoughts from the questions above were:
1. Students should benefit socially, emotionally, and musically.
2. I want to build positive relationships with everyone associated with the music program.
3. I want to help students develop a love for music and making music.
4. I want to assist students in following and achieving their dreams and goals.
5. I need to grow personally and professionally by not being afraid of change.
