PROBLEM SET
Assignment #3 – The Sampling Distribution of Means

Instruction: Answer what is asked in the problem. You may add rows to the tables provided.

The population is the weight of six cart of

watermelon (in kilograms) displayed in a fruit stand
"guess the weight" game booth near the grocery
items. You are asked to guess the average weight of
the six carts of watermelons by taking a random
sample without replacement from the population.

a. Find and calculate the total possible sample

means of size n = 2 from the populations,
sampling with replacement by showing it in a
tabular form all the possible samples, the
weights for the chosen watermelon, the sample
mean and the probability of obtaining each
sample.

Sample Weight 𝒙" Probability

b. What is the population mean of the six carts of

watermelons?

c. Find and calculate the total possible sample

means of size n = 5 from the populations,
sampling with replacement. Show all the
possible sample means in ordered lists e.g.
ABCDE, ABCDF and so on then when answers
contain decimals, round-off answers to at most
two-decimal places.

Sample Weight 𝒙" Probability

d. What is the sampling error of sample ABCDF

and from the population mean?
