Evaluation of vibration measurements

Vibration velocity can be measured directly using piezoelectric acceleration sensors. State of
the art standards request measurements in one direction or two directions with 90°
displacement /4/, /5/. Measurement in axial direction mainly is used for periodic monitoring
but also for diagnosis.

DIN ISO 10816-1 /4/ describes, in general terms, two criteria for the assessment of vibrations
of different classes of machines. Criterion I considered the size of the broadband measured
vibration. Criterion II considered the change in vibration magnitude regardless of rise or fall.

In addition, DIN ISO 10816-1 defines four assessment zones for the machine vibrations which
allow a qualitative assessment of vibration of a machine and give a reference to any necessary
measures. Especially for centrifugal pumps the ISO 10816-7 /5/ defines the limits of
assessment zones for vibration of non-rotating components with an output greater than 1 kW
and impellers with more than three vanes.
