Assessment Overview:

The Practical Assessment is a set of tasks that must be completed in an industry workplace, or SCA simulated
industry environment set up for the purposes of assessment.

To be assessed for this unit of competency, you must demonstrate your skills and knowledge to resolve
complex or escalated complaints and disputes with internal and external customers and colleagues

The Practical Assessments in this workbook include:

1. Workplace Assessment

A series of tasks assessing the candidate’s practical knowledge and skills relevant to the unit of
competency. This includes the candidate completing workplace documents or similar as evidence of
competent performance.

2. Workplace Practical Observation

A set of assessment tasks where the candidate must demonstrate practical skills relevant to the unit
of competency. These skills are to be demonstrated while being observed by the assessor.

This workplace assessment requires you to implement and monitor adherence to workplace health,
safety and security procedures.

This assessment is divided into six tasks:

a) Task A: Explain and Make Health, Safety and Security Information Available

b) Task B: Monitor Safe Work Practices

c) Task C: Implement and Monitor Adherence to Health, Safety and Security Procedures

d) Task D: Coordinate Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment Activities

e) Task E: Implement Risk Control Measures

f) Task F: Coordinate Health, Safety and Security Training

You are required to complete the assessment tasks in an industry workplace, or from a simulated industry
environment set up for the purposes of assessment

Each task comes with a set of instructions. You are to follow these instructions to complete the assessment
and will require you to either:

 Submit completed workplace templates and/or any required documentation; or

 Demonstrate task requirements while being observed by the assessor.

Some tasks may include both requirements. These will serve as evidence of your task completion.

Before starting this assessment, your assessor will discuss with you these instructions, resources, and
guidance for satisfactorily completing the tasks.

TASK 2B: MONITOR SAFE WORK PRACTICES

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

This task requires you to monitor ongoing compliance and effectiveness of at least two safe work practices.
STEPS TO TAKE
1. Access and review the documents accessed in Workplace Assessment Task 1:
 Basic English documents with information on health, safety and security legislation
 Organisational health, safety and security policies and procedures
 Information on prompt timeframes in the candidate’s organisation
2. Monitor at least two safe work practices. Each safe work practice must be monitored in at least two
instances. For each monitoring instance, check the following:
 Compliance of safe work practice with applicable WHS legislation
 Effectiveness in maintaining the health, safety and security of personnel
3. Complete a Safe Work Practices Monitoring Sheet, based on the monitoring conducted in Step 2
above, comprising
 The compliance requirements of the identified safe work practices
 The results of monitoring compliance, the record of compliances monitored along with at
least one gap in compliance for each safe work practice.
 Actions taken to address gaps in compliance, and the timeframe within which such actions
were taken
 Results of monitoring effectiveness of the safe work practices, showing the expected
outcomes vis-a vis the actual outcomes of monitoring.
Use your organisation’s template for monitoring ongoing compliance and effectiveness of

with this workbook.

4. Take prompt action to address each identified instance of non-compliance.

This task requires you to coordinate and monitor scheduled hazard identification and risk assessments by
consulting with personnel.
STEPS TO TAKE
1. Access and review the following information:
 Organisational health, safety and security procedures relating to the situation selected in
the Preliminary Task
 Application of management practices as discussed in Workplace Assessment Task 1.
 Applicable Standards on WHS
2. While being observed by the assessor, coordinate at least two scheduled hazard identification
activities, which includes:
 Consulting with at least two personnel, involving:
o The sharing of relevant information on identifying workplace hazards

o The expressing of views

o Taking into account such information and views

o Application of management practices for hazard identification

 Participating in a risk assessment of the identified hazards to identify at least two risks
associated with each identified hazard
 Identifying all relevant details of the associated risks, such as the expected outcome,
degree of harm likely, etc.

This task requires you to implement risk control methods and resolve or refer health, safety or security
issues to the appropriate person(s).
STEPS TO TAKE
1. Access and review the following documents/information:
 The Hazard and Risk Monitoring Report from Workplace Assessment Task 4
 Application of management practices as discussed in Workplace Assessment Task 1.
 Your job description
 The organisation’s escalation matrix for health, safety and security issues
2. Identify at least one risk control method for each risk outlined in the Hazard and Risk Monitoring
Report from Workplace Assessment Task 4.
3. Implement actions based on each of the risk control methods to control the identified risks where
scope of responsibility permits and resolve the health, safety and security issue
4. Conduct a further risk assessment on the issue and determine a revised risk rating. Take further
actions to control risks where scope of responsibility is wide enough.
5. Additionally, where the candidate’s own scope of responsibility is not wide enough to implement
risk control actions, refer to the appropriate person(s)
6. Complete the Risk Control Actions Report, comprising:
 Actions taken to control the risk and
 Residual Risk Rating and
 Details of reference to appropriate person(s)
