Artistic Intention- For Hope Sowa

My artwork will be a cubism piece that talks about peace and how we can promote it across
different cultures. Peace is one thing that we have so little of in this world. I would like to
promote peace for a happier world. I want my audience to realise the importance of peace in our
world.

I would like to use art to promote peace in our cultures. Peace is a fundamental component of
community development, personal growth, and the survival of our planet. The basis of every
culture is the need for peaceful coexistence to enhance productive, meaningful lives and
sustainable societies. Our quality of life also depends on peace.

Our world today is becoming discriminatory, less peaceful and unsafe for this generation and the
generations to come. Our environment today is filled with violence, unrest, declining values, and
reduced tolerance and respect for human rights. These are all bad, but the worst form (in my
opinion) is terrorism.
What is terrorism? Terrorism is the unlawful use of violence and intimidation against civilians in
pursuit of political power. It has resulted in the loss of lives, property and human dignity,
hindering peace among cultures, religions and nations. The causes of terrorism in our world are
intolerant thought processes, violent narratives and social attitudes. This threatens the quality of
life in our countries and societies.
Large gaps in our political, social and civic engagement are grievances that create opportunities
for extremist groups to manipulate the youth into joining their violent activities. They target
unemployed youth and feed them their agenda to convince them to join their “cause”. The youth
get radicalized and engage in violent acts that they have no idea of the consequences of.

I would like to create this artwork so my audience will understand the importance of peace.
My inspiration would be this artwork

Angels of Peace by Marlina Vera

Marlina Vera uses cubism with expressionism and fauvism, but I will be focusing on
the ways I can use her cubist styles of art to create my masterpiece.

I will be using a pencil to draw and coloured pencils to colour my artwork. I will be using
the peace lily to create my artwork. I will divide the flower into two, what looks like peace
and what looks like war. I will use the elements of art such as shapes, colours, texture,
space, value, line and form. I am still considering names.
