Part 1: Assessment

and Observation

Case 4: Assessment and Observation

It is the end of the year and you want to
determine the students’ reading ability
(fluency and comprehension) of a very
simple one-page text. Design a
worksheet that can be used to assess a
student’s basic reading ability to
recognize simple CVC words and sight
words and also their ability to
comprehend a text. This tool must also
include three comprehension questions
for the student to respond to.
Design and describe the tool, explain
why you would use this tool in the
classroom for this case, the advantages
and disadvantages of the assessment
tool, and why this is a valid and reliable
tool?
Checklist
Describe the
Checklist tool
Teacher will assess the student
performance at the end of year , by
using a checklist tool in reading ability
on the cvc word , also sight word ,
ability to comprehend a text.

Domain
Teacher will assess the student linguistic
development ,Because the branches of
linguistics are concerned with how
languages are built, how languages are
used, and how they change. We also need
to evaluate the student (fluency and
comprehension) and reading skill is an
important part of the language.

Problem
Determine the students by the end of
year in reading ability recognize simple
CVC words and sight words also their
ability to comprehend a text.
The solutions , and the
best solution in my
opinion.
There are many solutions for assessing students'
reading ability (fluency and comprehension)
during school, such as checklist and anecdotal
feedback tools, both tools can assess student
performance at the end of the year.

In my opinion, the checklist tool is the best

solution for assessing determining students'
reading ability (fluency and comprehension),
because we don't have to evaluate one student
but we need to evaluate each student, teachers
collect data and create opinions about what
pupils know and what they can do in relation to
with the results. They provide structured
methods for gathering information about
specific reading ability (fluency and
comprehension), abilities, and knowledge.

Use this tool in the classroom for this case. It

makes it easier to know the level of the student
in reading skills and to develop them in the new
year. It also shows in which stage the student is
in, as shown in checklist tool if master , or achive
, not acheive to help him reach the highest level.

Analysis is a tool to help investigate and

understand the level of a student to improve
their reading ability (fluency and
comprehension).
The advantage of
checklist tool

- give resources for

systematic observation
recording.

- provide resources for self-

evaluation.

- Before students gather

and evaluate information
about their work,give them
examples like here we have
a sight word read it to me of
the criteria that will be used.
The diadvantage of
checklist tool

- Doesn't allow
explanations: Since it is a
checklist only.

-they can become time-

consuming.

- Provide limited
information about how to
improve performance.
Reliability and
validity
To enhance reliability I use the
Checklist to assess the
preformance of linguistic
development.

Assessing linguistic . Assisting in

identifying the reading ability , It
helps in understanding student
level and what do you need to
improve can next time.

the process of verifying that a

data set is free of errors and
adheres to standard or intended
rules. I check the content with my
friend " Mahra " during college
during break time.
