Case 5: Assessment and Observation


You have a student who is displaying some
very poor behavior. The principal asks you
to observe the student and track their
behavior so they have data for a
parent/teacher meeting. Also, by collecting
the data, it is hoped that you can
determine the cause of the behavior.
What assessment tools would help you
collect data about the students’ behavior.
Why is the best tool? How would you
ensure and perhaps increase the validity
and reliability of this assessment tool?

Describe the
ABC chart tool
Teacher will observe behavior of the student
during the school, To choose effective teaching
methods, educators must have a thorough
understanding of how behavior functions. The
environment or setting could be changed to
influence student behavior. Data collection
serves as the foundation for both initial
decision-making and ongoing program
monitoring.

Problem
We have a student displaying some very poor
behavior .
The principal asks you to observe the student
and track their behavior so they have data for a
parent/teacher meeting.
The solutions , and the best
solution in my opinion.

There are many solutions to monitor students' behavior


during school, such as ABC chart and Tally sampling tools
give results succinctly while ABC chart tool explains the
situation better to explain parent/teacher meeting data.

In my opinion, ABC chart tools are the best tool for


monitoring students' progress, it helps to understand the
reasons for behavior that may appear to be problematic,
it characterizes each character for something, and
activators platform what action or event occurred before
the behavior of interest occurred. This could be hunger,
fatigue, or certain triggers.

B stands for behaviors, and is a description of the


behavior itself, which includes what happened, what was
said, how long it was and how severe it was. C stands for
results. What happened after the behavior. For example,
whether a child withdrew from an activity, experienced a
sensory stimulus, or whether someone reacted to the
behavior.

Analysis is a tool to help investigate and understand why


people behave in a certain way. It helps in understanding
student behavior so that behavior can be improved next
time.
The advantage of ABC
chart

Advantage :-
The ABC chart allows the proctor to record
descriptive information about the student in a
systematic and organized manner.

This recording format is easier to use than


other forms of monitoring that collect
scatterplot and ABC data such as the
Functional Assessment Monitoring Tool
included in this module.

The data collected provides a lot of


descriptive information about student
behavior and the environment.
The disadvantage of ABC
chart

Disadvantage :-
Disadvantage for using the ABC
Chart is that it can be more
difficult to see patterns quickly.

Data may need to be summarized


to look for patterns in antecedents
and consequences.

If a student engages in multiple


problem behaviors.
Reliability and validity

To enhance reliability I use the ABC


chart to assess the progress monthly of
behavior development.

Assessing behaviors. Assisting in


identifying the function of behaviors
(why behaviors happen),. It helps in
understanding student behavior so
that behavior can be improved next
time. ​

the process of verifying that a data set


is free of errors and adheres to
standard or intended rules. I check the
content with my friend " Mahra "
during college during break time.
