Measuring Tape

A measuring tape is an important tool for any engineering and is used broadly across just
about every avenue/category of engineering. They are compact, simple, and convenient and
allow for quick and versatile measurement in almost any environment. They come in a wide
variety of sizes based on the max distance required for the intended job. They include a
retractable measuring strip, a locking mechanism, and a side mounted belt clip.

etractable Measuring Strip: Used to extend the measuring strip only as much as the
user needs in that immediate moment and fully retracts when not in use.
 Locking Mechanism: This locks the measuring strip into a single point so the user can
work hands free and allows them to transfer the specific measurement to other
locations.
 Belt Clip: With this you can always keep your measuring tape an arm’s length away,
allowing for increased mobility and versatility.
Do not drop! Make sure to undo the locking
mechanism when done with the measuring tape.

1. Remove the measuring tape from its holder or belt.

2. Ensure that the measuring tape is the correct one for the job, or if one is even needed.
3. Check the two units, centimeters and inches.
4. Test the coil to make sure there aren’t any jams
5. Pull the coil to its maximum length and check the inches and centimeters tabs for
damage.
6. Test the locking mechanism to ensure it functions properly.
7. Decide or learn what the required lengths are for the job at hand.
8. Pull the measuring coil out to the required length and take the measurement.
9. If working with multiple same size parts, utilizing the locking mechanism to maintain a
single measurement.

10. When releasing the locking mechanism make sure to keep your hands away from the
sides of the measuring coil as it is retracted into the measuring tape.
11. Review the measurements taken on the relevant areas for possible errors.
12. Document the measurements created.
13. Conduct a final check on all the measuring tapes functions and parts.
14. Clean any residue from measuring process.
15. Return the measuring tape to its storage or belt for next use.

With this tool any engineer can make precise measurements of any surface in almost any
terrain or location with its simplicity and compact design. Keep them in a box or on your belt,
you can bring them anywhere with the built-in belt clip. Perfect as a gift for any handyman.
