• Ownership of coaches lie with

BASE/PRIMARY coaching depot.


• Main responsibility of coach lies with
Base/Primary depot.
• Maintenance carried out at Base depot is
known as Primary Maintenance.
• To ensure ZERO defect at the time of
dispatch of coaches for service
• Stipulated time for Primary maintenance
at washing pit line – 6 hrs
• Maintenance provided at destination
station at its maintenance depot is called
SECONDARY maintenance.
• Responsibility of Secondary depot:
i. Ensure 100% safety compliance
ii. Coaches can be allowed with minor defects
without compromising to passenger
comfort
• Stipulated time for Secondary
maintenance – 4 hrs
 All AC coaches to be pre-cooled before
placement of rake on platform
 This is the time when passengers need
immediate and maximum comfort level.
 To be ensured by Primary and
Secondary depots
 External supply should be utilized for
pre-cooling to the extent possible
 Pre-cooling cum charging leads must
be available in all SG AC coaches
 Escorting (worked out as per rake links)
• AC mechanic/In charge
 FAC 1/coach
 Other coaches 1/3-4 coaches
• AC coach attendant 1/AC sleeper coach
• Rajdhani on-board power car staff- 5-6/rake
• Power car maintenance 1.2 staff/power car

 Leave -12.5% (1 for 8 staff)
 RG for escorting staff -16.6 % (1 for 6 staff)
• Store and statistical staff -13 & 8 per 150 coaches

Escorting of AC coaches
 Links formed to optimise coach utilisation for
traffic duly ensuring their availability for
stipulated schedules and minimising lie over
periods
 Indicate sequence of rake movement
 Coaches to be made available at primary
depot /workshop for carrying out trip, monthly,
three monthly ,IOH & POH etc
 At terminals min 3 hrs to be provided
 Rake stabling sidings to be available
 Integrated rakes to be aimed at.
• Time-table for placement of rakes at washing
pit line arriving for primary or secondary
maintenance.
• Indicates time slots for placement of rakes on
24-hr basis across the full week.
• Prepared by C&W department in consultation
with Electrical and Operating departments
• Issued with joint signature of officers of C&W,
Electrical & Operating departments, say,
Sr.CDO, Sr.DEE, Sr.DOM

Maintenance philosophy

 At present all TL items like alternators, regulators, fans, lights,


battery are maintained departmentally.

 Under- slung type AC Coaches all equipment like compressors,


condenser, evaporator, panel are maintained departmentally.

 Contract with OEM for 4-monthly schedule of inverters.

 Comprehensive service contract for RMPU for Trip, monthly, 3-


monthly & Periodic overhaul with RDSO approved sources.

 Selective outsourcing of ACCA.


 After introduction of any new train, bare
requirement of each type of coach is worked out
 Examine critically whether rake can be integrated
with any of the existing rake.
• If not add traffic & maintenance spares to bare
requirement
 Requirements worked out in consultation with traffic
and mechanical deptts.
