VOCATIONAL TRAINING
Jute Bags
With the assistance of trained volunteers, Kishoris from all the
centres learnt how to make jute bags. Soon, they were able to make
these by themselves and even taught their mothers how to. They
sold their handmade bags virtually through Run programs.
Classical Dance
Classical Dance allows kids to strengthen their social, creative and
mental skills while also being an effective and fun source of
physical education. Kishoris interested in this art form are given
an opportunity to dance on stage. These performances are held
for events like independence day and various festivals
Sankranti Celebrations
Sankranti is the festival of harvest, a day dedicated to the sun god Surya. It is
one of the biggest festivals celebrated by Hindus. In each of the centres, the
Kishoris were told about the importance of the festival and the story behind
it. The girls made rangolis to celebrate the auspicious day
Bathukamma
Bathukamma is celebrated as the festival of flowers, to honour the
mother goddess of life. In the festival, flowers are stacked in concentric
circles, each smaller than the one below it. The Kishoris made these
flower stacks. They then worshipped the goddess by dancing around it
while singing the bathukamma songs.
Ganesh Chaturthi
Across the nation, Ganesh Chaturthi is a popular holiday among young
kids. The lord is worshipped in the form of clay models. In every centre,
the volunteers explain the importance of the festival and the kishoris
celebrate it through dance and food. During the celebrations, Kishoris
acquire many management and organisational skills.
Independence Day
Every year on August 15th Indians from every corner of the country come
together to celebrate the struggles our great freedom fighters went through to
gain independence for our nation. On this day, Kishoris participated in many
cultural programmes like sports, singing, dance, elocution, essay writing and
much more. In VKV, the Kishoris are taught to respect our country every day,
not just on independence or republic day.
SPECIAL ACTIVITIES
Annual Day
In any school, the annual day is a highly
anticipated event. Every year VKV pulls out all
the stops. The Samavayakarthas decide on the
events and programmes and practice begins. The
Kishoris practice earnestly every day and as the Annual Day celebrations
days go by the excitement only increases and
practice becomes more fervent. The day before
the event a dress rehearsal was held. On the day,
all the performances went by very smoothly and
the guests handed gifts to all the participating

SCHOLARSHIPS
Krishnaveni and Hemalatha are 2 sisters from a family of 5 siblings, all girls. One
older sister was married, and another is divorced. Their father had sadly passed
away, and their mother worked as a house helper in various houses. In such a
somewhat large family, the mother’s income was hardly sufficient to make ends
meet. This left them in a financially vulnerable situation. With the aid of the Seva
Bharathi and the Konda Laxman Babuji foundations, the two sisters can continue
their education. They are currently in their third year at Open university. While
being able to pay for their education, they’re also able to support their family
financially.
