Ginger Saves Sarsaparilla

By. Shea Davis

Ginger is a small gingerbread person standing in her house near the bottom of a small
hill. As she walks out of her hut, she looks up the hill and sees her friend, Sarsaparilla, sleeping
in the sunlight. Upon closer inspection, Ginger notices that there is a Treeagle circling in the sky
over him. As it begins to dive, Ginger runs up the hill to save Sarsaparilla, knowing that
Treeagles love eating gingerbread people. Behind Sarsaparilla is his home, dug into the hill. If
Ginger can get Sarsaparilla and get into his home before they are captured, then they will be
safe.
We know…

● Ginger’s house is at (6,2.25)

○ Ginger can go 5 ft per second
○ Ginger can go 3 ft per second while carrying Sarsaparilla
● Sarsaparilla is sleeping at (80,30)
● His home is 12 ft behind Sarsaparilla and the door is open for easy entrance
● The Treeagle is 250 ft in the air directly over Sarsaparilla
○ The Treeagle can dive 15 ft per second
○ The Treeagle can fly 4 ft per second
● The Treeagle will stop diving and start flying if Ginger gets to Sarsaparilla first, then it will
fly at Sarsaparilla’s home.

Who will get to Sarsaparilla first? The Treeagle or Ginger? If Ginger gets there first, will they be
able to get to safely before the Treeagle gets there?
