The Wolf And The Seven Little Goats

By Shreya Sharma

Once upon a time there lived a Mama goat and her seven little kids.
Theirs was a happy little home. All the seven little kids used to play in
the meadows. Into the wild, with the butterflies and birds singing along
their days used to go in complete harmony and bliss.
Until one day, a big black wolf noticed these little kids playing in the
meadow. He waited for the moment when the mother goat would leave
her kids alone, patiently hiding in the bushes. Mother goat had to go to
the market to buy some cookies and bread for her kids. She told her kids
to remain conscious of that big bad wolf. She also told them that the
wretched wolf could be recognized with his hoarse voice and black feet.
The mother goat went off to the market and the kids made doubly sure
with the locks on the door. After making sure that they are safe in their
little home, off they went to play when suddenly there was a knock on
the door. Hearing the voice, the youngest one scampered to the door. In
no time, the eldest one ran to catch his little sibling. And then looking at
the door the eldest kid shouted back saying, “Go back you big bad wolf!”
Hearing this, the wolf got annoyed and ran to get a box of chalk as he
had heard this would make his voice soft. So he gulped off thew whole
box of chalk. He went back and knocked the door. But one of the kids
saw the wolf’s black feet and shouted, “Go back you bad wolf, our
mother has beautiful white feet.” Hearing this the wolf ran to the miller
and jumped into the mountain of white dough. He was all white from
head to toe.
Running back to the house, he knocked again and said, “Open the door!
Your mother is back.” After hearing the soft voice and the white feet they
all decided to open the door. Not knowing what danger awaits them all
the kids ran to the door and opened it. The big bad wolf brushed off his
white powder. The kids ran here and there to save their lives. One went
inside the kettle, the other in the oven. One looked for a place under the
bed and the other tried saving itself by hiding in a pot. The youngest one
was so tiny that he managed to hide himself under the clock case. The
wolf having no mercy started taking them out from their hidings. One by
one he gulped all of them except for the youngest one who was hiding in
the clock case. With his tummy full, he burped and left the home.
When the mother returned, she was shocked to see the door open. The
house was all upside down. At that very moment, the youngest one
came out and hugged her mother and told everything. They went out
searching for the wolf. His tummy was so filled that he slept off in a
meadow near the house itself. The mother goat went quietly near him
took a scissor, needle and a thread. She opened his tummy and took all
her kids from his tummy. They then began to fill his tummy with stones
and stitched the tummy with the thread and the needle.
The wolf had such a huge feast after so long and he slept all night. In the
morning when he got up, he was so thirsty that he tried running to the
well but his belly was so heavy that he could hardly walk. He picked up
his belly and managed to reach the well, but the moment he bent down
to drink water he couldn’t handle the weight and fell into the well. Mama
goat and the kids were looking all this from the window and felt very
happy. And they lived happily ever after.

By Shreya Sharma

Once upon a time, there lived a stray dog. He was very greedy. In many
instances, he had to suffer because of this habit of his. Each time, he
would promise to himself that he’ll not be greedy again but soon he
would forget his promise and be greedy as ever.
He used to roam here and there in search of food and water. One day he
was very hungry and he decided to search for food on the other side of
the bridge outside his house. He went across the wooden bridge and
started looking for food there. Luckily, he found a big, juicy bone and he
held the bone tightly in his mouth so that no other dog could snatch it
from him. You may also like, The Discontented Dog.

was his own reflection. The dog lost the bone because of his greediness
and had to go back home hungry.

The Honest Woodcutter
By Shreya Sharma

In a village next to a forest there lived two woodcutters. They were

neighbors staying next to each other. Deena, the first woodcutter was a
very energetic and honest one. Soma, the other woodcutter was a lazy
and mean person. Both earned their living by cutting wood in the nearby
forests. Also, read The Hidden Treasure Story.
One day as usual in the morning, Deena started his work. Soma always
used to delay his work. Soma led a miserable life as he was not ready to
work hard. Deena went to the forest and looked out for woods. He
searched for wood for long but he did not find any wood so he decided
to go to the riverside where he would get wood. So, Deena walked
towards the river.
There, he found a big tree. Deena climbed up the tree and started to
chop the wood. As he was chopping, the axe slipped from his hand and
fell into the river. He started crying and prayed to God as it was his only
property which earned money. Soon God answered his prayer. God
appeared and asked him, why he was crying. He told about the incident.
In a little while, God took an axe from the river. It glittered as it was made
of gold. Deena was stunned to see such a shining beautiful axe. But
Deena said no without any hesitation. Here are more short stories with
moral you might The God again took another axe from the river. It was
made of silver. The God again asked, “Is it your axe?” He said, “No, it is
not mine.” God now pulled an axe made of iron. “Is it yours”, God asked.
Deena’s face showed the sign of joy. He said yes and was overjoyed.
The God was very much pleased with his honesty and gave all the three
axes as a reward for his honesty. Deena happily went to his home with
the three axes. When he crossed Soma’s house, Soma saw the axes
and was stunned. Soma was curious to know what has happened. So,
without the knowledge of Deena, Soma followed him.
Deena reached the house and called his wife. She came there and saw
the axes. She was surprised. Deena explained how the god appeared
and had given him the axes. Soma who was hearing all this from outside
decided to follow Deena the next day. Also, read The Lazy Boy That
Became a Cow.
The next day, Deena sold the golden axe and started a new happy life.
Even though he has become rich, Deena went to work as usual. Soma
followed Deena to the forest. Deena went near the river and started his
work. Soma got to know about the place where his axe got slipped. He
waited till Deena left.
Soma immediately went to the river and deliberately dropped his axe into
the river. He pretended to cry and prayed the god to help him. The god
appeared and came to know that Soma was playing with him, So, the
God decided to teach him a lesson. God took out his iron axe first. He
said no intentionally. Then the God took the silver axe and showed it to
him. He again denied. God took out the golden axe. He quickly said yes.
God was furious and took all the axes with him and disappeared. All his
shouting went useless. Soma returned home without the axe which was
his only property, but he had learned his lesson.

very angry with his friend as he had run away from him at the approach

Fox And Grapes
By Shreya Sharma

Once in a forest, there lived a furry fox. He was wandering around the
forest in search of food. “I am so hungry. I need to eat something,” the
fox thought to himself. The fox was passing by a vineyard but he was not
aware that it was the one. “I am so hungry that I can’t even see what that
round thing is,” cried the fox.
He went a little ahead but stopped as he noticed the smell of the
delicious grapes. “Wow! There are so many grapes in this vineyard. My
mouth is watering!” wondered the fox. The fox looked at the grapevine
and drooled. The fox jumped up towards the grapes, but the grapes
were too high for him. He tried and tried but the effort was futile.
He tried again and this time he was about to touch the grapes but failed
again. “Oh! I am so tired. These grapes are too high! I cannot reach
them at any cost.” said the tired fox. He sat there and thought for a long
time that how he can get those grapes.
He suddenly got up and said to himself, “Those grapes are probably
sour. In fact, I don’t like grapes. Why should I try so hard for them?” The
fox could not reach the grapes and hence escaped by making excuses.
But his tummy kept growling of hunger and he had to go without
anything. So, the fox had to go empty handed because he just made an
excuse.

Elephant and Ant Story
By Shreya Sharma

This is the famous Elephant and Ant Story for kids. Once upon a time,
there was a thick, green forest. In this forest, there lived many wild
animals. In this jungle, there lived a gigantic elephant who used to get
angry on small issues and he underestimated all the other small animals.
He was always doing something to show off his strength.
Inside the deep pole, there lived a tiny ant family. Every morning, they
would go in search of food. On their way, they would meet the elephant.
The elephant was very naughty and proud of his powerful body. He
always troubled all the small animals in the forest.
One day, when the ant family was off to work, the elephant sprayed a
trunk full of water on them. “Ouch! You should not hurt others like this!”
cried one of the ants. The elephant said angrily, “Oh, you stupid ant!
Keep quiet or I will crush you to death.” The poor ant kept quiet but she
decided to teach the proud elephant a lesson.
The ant slowly crept into the elephant’s trunk and started biting him. The
elephant became restless. He tried to get the ant out of his trunk but the
ant did not come out. Such a big animal but he could not do anything to
get the tiny ant out. The elephant shouted in pain but the ant kept biting
him.
The elephant started to cry and said sorry to the tiny ant. The ant said,
“This is how it feels when you hurt others!” The ant took pity on the
elephant and came out of his trunk. The elephant was very happy. That
is how the elephant learned the lesson of his life. And from that day, he
never ever troubled any animal again.
The Hidden Treasure Story
By Basab Ghosh

Once upon a time, in a small, secluded village lived an old man. He had
four sons. All of them had grown up into big men. Despite being grown-
ups, the farmer’s sons never worked. The sons believed that their luck
would take them along with their lives. “These sons of mine,” the farmer
found himself wondering most of the time, “what will they do when I
leave?” You may also like to read, The Greatest Treasure.
One day, the poor farmer fell sick. It seemed, the poor man would not
make it. Even on his death bed, the man was worried sick about his sons
and their futures. “They will surely be doomed, if they don’t do something
about themselves,” the farmer thought. As all worried fathers do, he too
came up with a plan to teach his sons a valuable lesson. He called his
sons before he died. “There is a treasure hidden in the farmland,” the old
man had told his sons before he died, “the most worthy will find the
treasure.”
The old farmer’s sons took their father’s last words seriously. All of them
took to digging up the vast farmland their father left them with. Each of
them dug the farm, until sunset every day. They worked hard, digging
until the entire farm was dug up. But all that work gave no result, it was
just barren land.
“Where is the treasure?” one of them asked after they had dug the farm.
“This just a barren land, was there even a treasure to be found?”
complained another one of them. A passerby heard the commotion and
came to see what the fuss was about. He saw that the farm was dug up
properly. He saw the farmer’s sons talking nearby. “Young men,” the
passerby called them. “Since you have already dug up the farm, why
don’t you plant some seed?” he suggested. Also, read Treasure Island.
The farmer’s sons did not like the idea. After some discussions, they
decided it would not hurt them much. So, they planted the new seeds.
Soon the seeds grew into healthy crops. They sold the crops in the
market and received a good sum of money in return.
“So, this was the treasure father was talking about,” one of the four
brothers realized. Their father had tricked his sons into digging the farm,
which eventually led to them planting the seeds. They realized nothing in
life came free of cost, hard work was required to gain something. The
four brothers overcame their laziness and worked hard for their future.

THE STORK AND THE CRAB

An old Stork lived on the side of a fishpond. He was too old to fish any
longer, and he had to come up with an idea for food. Suddenly, he had a
great idea. He stood in the water with a sad face. A crab came up to him
and ask him why he was so unhappy.

The Stork said "I've heard that this pond is going to dry up soon and now
I have to fly away to another pond."
Concerned, the crab asked the stork to save the animals in the pond as
well.

He would take a couple of fish in his beak and fly away towards another
pond. Once he would reach far out of sight the pond, he would eat them.
He did this many times.

Now it was the crab’s turn. As they were flying the crab looked down but
could not see a pond however he saw a lot of fish bones. The crab
immediately realized what was happening and grabbed the stork’s throat
tight with his sharp claws. The stork struggled to get free. But the crab
held on. Soon the stork fell to the ground. The crab crawled back to his
pond to tell the story to the rest of the pond creatures.

The Blue Jackal Story

Once there was an adventurous jackal who frequently strayed into the
village looking for food. The Village was filled with dogs that scared the
jackal. Although he was scared of the dogs, the jackal loved food and
travelled to the city again and again.

One day, as he was going to enter a house, he heard barking. He was

shocked to find a gang of dogs running towards the house. They looked
violent and caused the jackal to panic. He ran and tumbled into a tub of
blue dye. The dogs couldn’t see him and they ran another way.

Now the jackal was completely blue from head to toe. He appeared very
different from any other animal. The jackal was pleased as no one would
be able to recognize him and he could easily fool anyone in the jungle.
Just like he had thought, everyone in the jungle was surprised to see
such an unusual animal.

The small animals, the lion and the tiger all asked who he was and who
had sent him.
“I have been sent by God himself to look after you. I will now be the king
of the jungle” The jackal said.

The lion protested saying he had always been the king of the forest.
“From now, that must change and all of you must serve me” The Jackal
happily said.

Some animals like the tiger protested and asked what would happen if
they didn’t obey him. He replied saying God would destroy the entire
jungle if they didn’t.

Scared for their lives and their jungle, the animals asked the blue Jackal
what he would like them to do.
“Bring me lots of food” said the blue jackal promptly.
The animals quickly scurried and returned with lots of food for the
Jackal.
He had so much food that he gave his leftovers to the other animals and
told them that they had to serve him fresh food every day.
He even threw out the pack of jackals from the forest because he knew
that they could identify him some day.

The blue Jackal was very happy with himself for fooling the entire forest
and was happy to be away from the city dogs.
But one day the banned pack of jackals was walking around the forest
and howling loudly. The blue jackal began howling out of habit too.
Because of this mistake, the other animals quickly identified him as a
jackal and destroyed him.
