Vocabulary words

1. Corporation: Corporation refers to a legal entity, a group of people working for the same
purposes with rights established by law. An example of this word used in a sentence
would be: "In 2022, a group of business friends created a stock issuing corporation."

2. Terminator gene: Terminator gene refers to a sequence which causes plants not to
produce seeds. An example of this word used in a sentence would be: “Because of the
terminator gene, small farmers are forced to continue buying seeds at each harvest.”

3. Patents: A patent is a right granted by the state to protect some own invention, it prevents
them from using it without their consent. An example of this word used in a sentence
would be: “It would be enough to create a company and patent a product.”

4. Opsonization: Opsonization refers to the process by which a pathogen is destroyed by our


body's immune system. Example in a sentence: “There are three complement pathways
which fulfill the role of opsonization.”

5. PAMPs: PAMPs refers to Pathogen-associated molecular patterns, which are present in


pathogens and not in humans, or in different forms. An example of this word in a
sentence: “PAMps carbohydrates are present in altered forms in a pathogen, making it
easier to recognize."

6. Antigen: Antigen refers to the portion of the pathogen that is recognized by the pathogen.
Example of this word in a sentence: "Antigen-presenting cells induced B cell
differentiation.”

7. Epitope: epitope refers to the region of the antigen that is recognized by the antibody.
Example of this word in a sentence: "Pathogens are capable of creating mutations in
epitope sites so that they cannot be recognized."

8. Multivalent antigen: multivalent antigent refers to the fact that an antigen can possess
several different epitopes. An example of this word in a sentence: "For this multivalent
antigen, four different B cells can recognize it, indicating the differentiation of four B
cells at the same time."
9. Locus: Locus refers to the exact location of a gene, by which diseases can be identified.
An example of this word in a sentence: "The locus for that disease would be on
chromosome six, arm p, section two."

10. Politics: politics refers to the art of making men or peoples happy. An example of this
word in a sentence: "Politics is an art which not all people possess."
11. Power: Power refers to the ability to influence the behavior of other human beings and
gain obedience. An example of this word in a sentence: "We delegate power to our rulers
so that they watch over our well-being."

12. Presidentialism: refers to a form of government where the figures of head of government
and head of state fall on the same person. An example of this word in a sentence: "Puerto
Rico presents a presidentialism form of government."

13. Parliamentarian: refers to a form of government where the head of state and head of
government are two figures that fall on two different people. An example of this in a
sentence: "Spain presents a form of parliamentary government."

14. Bicameral Branch: In politics, it refers to a chamber made up of two legislative bodies.
An example of this word in a sentence: "In Puerto Rico, the Legislative Branch is
bicameral, made up of the House of Representatives and the Senate."

15. Supreme court: in Puerto Rico, it refers to the court of last instance, and it administers the
other courts created. An example of this word in a sentence would be: "The Supreme
Court of Puerto Rico is the one with the highest administrative hierarchy."
