My Father Goes to Court
Carlos Bulosan

In 1943, the novella "My Father Goes to Court" by Carlos Bulosan was released to the
public in the city of New York. It is a story that gives important and life-changing lessons to all
of us who read it. It also emphasizes on living a meaningful life and having significant
experiences, and the author conveys the story in the most efficient possible manner. It was
argued that this work is devastating to the growth of the economy. This story made me realized
the importance of being grateful for what we have and being content with our situations,
regardless of how challenging life may be. This story demonstrates the importance of finding
contentment and joy in one's life.

The novel focuses on two families, each of which is very different from the other in terms of
their background and their current financial situation. The contrast between the two families
gives the story's main conflict. The ability to make other people laugh was Father's one and only
source of wealth, and he was known as a guy who laughed. One of his neighbors lives a
luxurious life, but he says that he's never been happy with what he's achieved in life. While the
father and the rest of the father's family are happy to have such a lovely family life. One day, the
wealthy neighbor makes it clear that the father and his family should be taken to court for
stealing not only their money but also their soul food. The complainant is confronted in court by
the defendant's father and other members of the defendant's family who never had the assistance
of an attorney. The father is sure that the complaint made by the complainant cannot be obtained
since the case itself is not valid, and he bases this confidence on the fact that the case itself is not
valid. It is not about taking something that does not belong to you; rather, it is about
experiencing something that cannot be explained. After hearing the sound of coins being handed,
which was made by the father, the court decides to put the matter to rest and dismiss it. The
father and the rest of the family laughed at the judge and the audience as they sat slumped in
their chairs and gripped their stomachs after the closing of the trial. There is laughter heard at the
beginning of the story as well as at the end when the lesson is learned. Because the author has
presented such a realistic and genuine portrayal of the settings in which the family lives, we are
able to relate with them and feel like we know them. Despite the fact that the author's structure
and word choice are connected in some way, the story still has a significant amount of
symbolism during its full context. This shows how some of the richer people of our society try to
keep everything for themselves and leave nothing for those who are lower on the society's social
hierarchy. The story looks into the social gap that exists in our society between the middle class
and the working class. Because Carlos Bulosan personally through a significant amount of
economic struggle, racism, prejudice, and social abuse while he was living in the United States, I
believe that he was a representation of a true life story.

In the story, there is a conflict between a family from a higher class and a family from a lower
social class. The actor plays the role of the character to the absolute best of his or her skills in a
manner that helps to the growth of the plot. Because the plot is so interesting, the story does a
great job of keeping you guessing about what will happen in the following chapter. This is due to
the fact that the story is told in story form. When this story was created, the author's goal was to
provide reasons in support of the economic development that was taking place at the time the
story was written. According to the story, having a lot of money makes you powerful, and it also
shows how easy it is to accuse someone of doing something wrong, even if the accusation is
accurate. nothing. You should not accuse other individuals of being a bad person, regardless of
whether or not you are wealthy. You have no right to dictate where others spend their money.
Period. You are aware of and respectful of the basic worth and legal rights of a person.
Everything else, with the exception of the goods in question, is acquired in retail outlets. Even if
you come from a poor family, that does not give you the right to lose hope for other people's
futures. I am aware that individuals who are less wealthy are looking for guidance and
inspiration in order to get out of their difficult circumstances. This story will act as a wake-up
call for us to prioritize our physical health over our secure financial situation. It is lovely to be
able to buy whatever you want, but it is far more vital to take care of your health and live a
healthy lifestyle. If you have the means to acquire whatever it is you desire, then it is within your
reach. But the joy and happiness that we experience each day is priceless and will be gone in our
lives if we do not make the most of them. Things in this world are merely made of matter and
have a fleeting existence.
After giving it some thought, I came to the conclusion that having a family with a basic life
condition is better than having a wealthy family with simple contentment that is lacking in
happiness and has a great deal of problems. This is because having a family with a basic life
condition is better than having a family with simple contentment but a lot of problems. Because
everything that we have right now is a blessing from God, the lesson that we should take away
from this is to be thankful for the things that we already possess because everything that we have
right now comes from God. The development of material objects is not the major reason for
happiness in life rather, the focus should be made on the creation of a family life that is god-
fearing and God-centered. In this life, the things that we require have greater significance than
the things that we want. This is the kind of happiness that money can't buy, and it's the kind that
lasts a lifetime as well as a lifetime and a half. It's the kind of happiness that comes from being
surrounded by loved ones, eating meals cooked at home, and remembering about the good old
days. The happiness that comes from having the luxury we desire is only temporary. This story
also serves to show the depth of love that both of our parents have for each of their children.
While the wealthy father gives his children everything they want but not what they need, the
poor father shows his love for his children by keeping the family together, making sure that
everyone has a laugh, and maintaining a close bond with each and every member of the family.
A wise parent knows that the best thing he can do for his family is to bring joy to his loved ones
and to ensure that they maintain their relationship with God. This is a responsibility that falls on
a responsible father.

We can gain important perspective on life by focusing to the story and collect the lesson that is
included within it. Both the setting of the story as well as the events that take place within it are
described in a very well-organized way. The events in the story can be related to anybody who
has actually happened in real life, which can present us with a new perspective on how life works
and why it works the way that it does. It contains an insight from which we can all learn an
important lesson, and there is no doubt that it is going to win over the minds and hearts of all of
its readers. When you read the first sentence of the story, you get the impression that there is
some type of lesson or insight to be learned from reading the rest of the story. This is the reality
because the sentence opens the way for the story. The writer shows to the audience that it is fun
to read the whole of the story by using this way. I enjoyed how the author structured the
information in a way that was easy to understand but still managed to make a major effect on me
as a reader.

contentment and joy in one's life.

The novel , Ilustrado , by Miguel Syjuco was published in Farrar, Straus and Giroux; 1st edition
year April 27, 2010.

Most of us would have to agree with this quotation and share the same sentiments, especially if
you live in an agricultural country. From selecting seeds, land preparation, establishing crops,
managing the water use, nutrient management, checking crop health, and harvesting, the process
can't be smoothly done as it requires going from point A to point B. The short story "Ang
Pamana" by Lamberto Gabriel showcases the hardship, perseverance, and the volition of chasing
dreams. It also reflects the life of the farmers in the Philippines as they undergo affliction for a
pursuit.

The story circulates Mang Karyas, the husband of Aling Asyang and the father of their son
Kiyel. Mang Karyas is a farmer of their inherited rice field from their ancestors. For Mang
Karyas, being a farmer is a lifetime burden. It was like a curse that could only break through the
power of education in which the only intangible thing that he can bequeath to his son. His father
doesn't want Kiyel to be the successor of his job because his father thinks that agriculture is not
for him. Mang Karyas has other plans for his son, and being a farmer doesn't include it.
However, things didn't go as planned, and his son Kiyel still took agriculture.

The story isn't just simply telling the events, but it is also voicing out to address the issues in our
society, such as the following:

The flawed system resulting in neglect to Agriculture Sector

Undervalued and exploited Filipino farmers
Stigmatization of Blue-Collar Jobs
Expensive cost of living in a Third World country and a current developing country
Poverty
On the other side, the author Lamberto Gabriel made the 'Ang Pamana' such a legendary story
relevant in today's state of affairs. I can see that the story resonates with the same agony of a 10-
year old child named Reymark who plows for a living for his family in Sultan Kudarat. With the
help of his companion, Rabanos, Reymark is determined to get the job done despite the 2-hectare
farm, even if the plow weighs 10 kilograms. Along with his grandfather, they work on their farm
every day to earn only 10 pesos of their harvested radish. Their daily living is a rack for them to
be able to eat three times a day. Reymark had to undergo all of these hardships for the sake of his
father, whom they didn't know where.

Upon contemplating these narratives, I'm soul-stirred by their perseverance and struggles in life.
Although persistence and resiliency are values that can motivate and inspire us along our
journey, I still firmly believe that these precious morals must not be subject to oppression. Our
experiences of poverty aren't just an individual's concern but a national issue, which we should
not blindly avoid. I have come up with the realization of gratitude in action, to be thankful and
doing something beneficial at the same time. The stories enlighten us with the silver lining of
hope that brings dreams into reality. With that said, I hope these narratives inspire each of us to
call and amplify voices for the change in our country.

Ang Pamana
Lamberto Gabriel

In July 27, 2010, the short story Ang Pamana , by Lamberto Gabriel was released to the public. It
is an excellent story because the author demonstrates the difficulty, the commitment, and the
willingness needs to chase after one's dreams. This showcase the significance of valuing the
hardship of the parents as well as their aspiration towards their children. It is also focus to the life
lived by farmers in the Philippines, who have to face a lot of hardship in order to make a living.

On July 27, 2010, Lamberto Gabriel's short story "Ang Pamana" was released to the
public. The author does a wonderful job of illustrating the challenges, the commitment,
and the willingness that are required to chase one's dreams, which is one of the reasons
why this story is so good. This demonstrates how important it is to recognize and respect
the struggles that parents face and the goals that they have for their children. It also
focuses on the life that is lived by farmers in the Philippines, who have to endure a lot of
hardship in in order to make a living for themselves and their families.

This story of a family who lived they had was farming. Mang Karyas and Aling Asyang are the
parents of Kiyel and the main characters of the story. Mang Karyas is a farmer of their inherited
rice field from their ancestors. As parents, they don’t want their son Kiyel to have a life like them
because for Mang Karyas, being a farmer is a lifetime burden. It was like a curse that could only
break through the power of education in which the only intangible thing that he can bequeath to
his son. His father doesn't want Kiyel to be the successor of his job because his father thinks that
agriculture is not for him. Mang Karyas also believe that Kiyel is their hope to stop the drought.
Mang Karyas has other plans for his son, and being a farmer doesn't include it. However, things
didn't go as planned, and his son Kiyel still took agriculture. Above all, Kiyel has the privilege to
finish college and have a degree, at last his parents will now breathe with gratitude. But in the
end, Kiyel chose the course of Agriculture because he believed if he follows his parents maybe
they might not recognize him as their son. This part is painful and raw as it highlights how
farmers in the Philippines are unrecognized and deprived of a good life. Farmers in the
Philippines are also lack of support and rights as producers in our country.
This is the story of a family whose main source of income and livelihood was farming.
Mang Karyas and Aling Asyang are the parents of Kiyel and the main characters of the
story. Mang Karyas is a farmer of their inherited rice field from their ancestors. They do
not want their son Kiyel to have the same life as them since they feel that being a farmer is
a burden that must be carried during one's entire life. It was almost like a curse that could
be broken through the power of education, which was the only intangible thing that he
could pass on to his son as a way of life. Because his father believes that Kiyel does not
belong in the agricultural sectors, he does not want Kiyel to take over the family business
and become his successor. Mang Karyas also believe that Kiyel is their hope to stop the
drought. Mang Karyas has other plans for his son, and one of those plans does not include
him working on the family farm. Things, however, did not go as to plan, and his son Kiyel
continued to take agriculture as his major. The most important thing is that Kiyel has the
opportunity to graduate from college and earn a degree; this will allow his parents to
finally breathe a sigh of relief. But in the end, Kiyel chose the course of Agriculture because
he believed if he follows his parents maybe they might not recognize him as their son. This
part is painful to read because it brings to light the fact that farmers in the Philippines are
not given enough recognition and are denied of the opportunity for a happy and successful
lifestyle. The agriculture community in the Philippines suffers from the same lack of
support and legal protections like other producers in our country.

In the story, it shows how hard the life of being a farmer is. In the story, the author showed the
life and the hardships of being a farmer and a father who dreams that his son will become
successful in life and not become a farmer like him. The author expressed his sympathy towards
all the farmers here in the Philippines because they are still undervalued and do not have a
quality life. The conflict of the story is character vs. character. It was evident when Kiyel
revealed he had taken the agriculture degree, which was opposed to what his father wanted him
to do. It is kind of disheartening that many farmers look up to themselves as a failure in our
society just like how Mang Karyas felt. The farmers in our countryare not paid well enough. In
the story, Mang Karyas and Aling Asyang repeatedly tell Kiyel not to become a farmer when he
grows up because of their poverty. However, despite all the difficulties Kiyel witnessed from his
parents as a farmer, he still pursued agriculture and worked to continue their legacy. Farmers are
the backbone of the agricultural system. They provide for us food. We cannot deny their
significance because their efforts ensure that our regular daily lives run smoothly. However, they
still do not have a quality life. It does not mean that farmers have no chance to uplift themselves.
In our country there is still a crisis of farmers mainly due to poor governance, wrong agricultural
policies, and massive ~ corruption in agricultural government agencies. And this issue should be
focused by the government because life in the farm is not that easy . They should be prioritized
and given many opportunities than us. Hence, as Filipinos, we should help them by buying local
rice, and support Filipino farmers as they stand up for the problems they are currently
encountering.
The story shows how challenging it may be to make a living as a farmer. In the story, the
author illustrated the life of a farmer, including the challenges of the job, as well as the
struggles faced by a father who hopes that his son will not follow in his footsteps and
become a farmer like him. The author is bothered by the fact that farmers in the
Philippines are still undervalued and do not have a good quality of life, and he has
expressed his sympathies to all of the country's farmers. The conflict of the story is
character vs. character. It became clear when Kiyel confessed that he had earned a degree
in agriculture, despite the fact that this was the complete opposite of what his father had
imagined for him. It is quite disappointing that many farmers, like Mang Karyas, view
themselves as failures in our society and look up to themselves as an example of that
failure. Our nation's farmers do not receive proper compensation for their work. In the
story, Mang Karyas and Aling Asyang, advise him over and over not to follow in their
footsteps and become a farmer when he grows up. However, despite all the difficulties
Kiyel witnessed from his parents as a farmer, he still pursued agriculture and worked to
continue their legacy. he agricultural system is supported mainly by its farmer community.
They are the ones who give us food. Their efforts to making our lives function smoothly on
a daily basis make it impossible for us to ignore the importance of what they do. Despite
this, they do not have a life that is worth living. It does not imply that there are no
opportunities for farmers to better themselves. There is still a crisis in our country's
agricultural community, which is mostly the result of bad administration, poor agricultural
policy, and massive corruption within agricultural government organizations. And because
life on a farm isn't exactly a walk in the park, the government's attention must be focused
on this issue. They need to receive more attention and priority, as well as opportunities,
than we do.

In this generation, due to the lack of wages and benefits of farming, many parents who own
agricultural lands are reluctant to allow their children to be a farmer. Because most parents want
the best for their children and would always look at their children's welfare, above all.
Furthermore, the lack of benefits and wages reflects that government administrations see farmers
as less of a priority and are unconcerned about their struggles. This story serves as a turning
point for all of us. We need to help our farmers to be acknowledged by the government. We need
to inspire young individuals to engage in agriculture because we need numerous young Kiels to
uplift and revive the sector of Agriculture. We need to overcome this pessimistic thinking and
destroy this stigma about farming.
In this day, many parents who own agricultural properties are hesitant to encourage their
children to pursue a career in farming due to the low salaries and limited benefits
associated with the industry. Because the majority of parents wish only the best for their
children and would prioritize their children's well-being above everything else while
making decisions concerning their family's future, In addition, the lack of salaries and
benefits is a reflection of the fact that government administrations do not place a high
importance on the condition of farmers and are worried about the challenges they face.
The aspects of this story represent a turning point for each and every one of us. It is
important that we work toward gaining recognition for our nation's farmers. We need to
encourage younger people to get involved in agriculture because the industry needs a large
number of young Kiels to be able to get back on its feet and succeed again. This gloomy
way of thinking must be overcome, and the farming industry must be managed to clear of
its negativity.
In conclusion, we should break the stigma of neglecting the farmers in our society. Instead,
acceptance and inclusivity should dominate us. This story represents a watershed moment in our
efforts to get our beloved farmers recognized by our government. It can be difficult to motivate
young people to work in agriculture for a variety of reasons, including a lack of wage rates for
farm workers and a general pessimistic attitude toward agriculture that still requires
improvement. The world requires young people like Kiyel to plant the seeds of a dying breed to
restore agriculture's value. We should recognize in this generation that farmers play an important
role in our society because they respond to our public health needs by ensuring food security for
all Filipinos.
In conclusion, we need to break the idea that our society looks down on farmers and give
them the respect they deserve. Acceptance and equality should be our guiding principles
instead. This story reflects an order to ensure success in our efforts to have our much-loved
farmers gain recognition from the government of our country. It can be difficult to
motivate young people to work in agriculture for a variety of reasons, including a lack of
wage rates for farm workers and a general pessimistic attitude toward agriculture that still
requires improvement. In order to revive the importance of agriculture, the world needs
more young individuals like Kiyel who are willing to grow the plants of a dying breed to
restore agriculture's value. Farmers consider the needs of our country's public health
system by ensuring that all Filipinos have access to safe and nutritious food. As a current
generation, we have a responsibility to appreciate the vital role that farmers play in our
society.
