The equation of a line passing through a given point (x1 , y1 , z1 ) and having Direction ratios <a , b, c > is
given by

Cartesian Equation : = =

Vector equation : r⃗ = a⃗ + λb⃗ where 𝑎⃗ = 𝑥 𝚤̂ + 𝑦 𝚥̂ + 𝑧 𝑘 and 𝑏⃗ = 𝑎𝚤̂ + 𝑏𝚥̂ + 𝑐𝑘 .

When two points are given instead of DRs , then

a=x −x ; b= y −y ; c =z − z .

When two lines are parallel : DRs are proportional l ∥ l

Angle between two lines : r⃗ = a⃗ + λb ⃗ and r⃗ = a⃗ + μb ⃗
