WIZARD OF OZ

Narrator: All Scarecrow: Praise

Dorothy: April Tinman: Vince A
Mayor: Charls Lion: Xyrel
Wizard: Lem Witch: Aleiyah

Narrator: Once there was a girl named Dorothy. She lived with her parents in Kansas. One day
Dorothy and her dog, were playing inside the house. Suddenly, there appeared a large cyclone
that picked the house right up, with them still inside! It carried them high into the sky. After
several days, the house landed with a crash. Dorothy walked to the door and much to her
surprise, she was in a strange land. Standing before her was a crowd of little people who were
dressed colorfully. The little people seemed very happy to see Dorothy, who now spoke to their
leader.

Dorothy: Who are you?

Mayor: I’m the Munchkin mayor. We’d like to thank you for killing the Wicked Witch.

Dorothy: What do you mean? I haven’t killed anyone.

Mayor: Your house landed on top of the Witch.

Narrator: The Mayor explained that they had been the Witch’s slaves for many years. Then the
leader presented Dorothy with the red shoes that the Wicked Witch was wearing as a token of
thanks.

Mayor: These shoes are yours now. I’m not sure, but I’ve heard they’re magic.

Dorothy: Thank you. But how do I get back to Kansas.

Mayor: I don’t know, but the Wizard of Oz could help. All you must do is follow the Yellow
Brick Road.

Narrator: The crowd led Dorothy to the road paved with yellow bricks. She turned to wave
good-bye and skipped happily down the road. After she had traveled for several miles, Dorothy
stopped in a cornfield to rest.

Scarecrow: Hello!

Dorothy: Did you just speak?

Scarecrow: Yes! How do you do?

Narrator: They introduced themselves and the scarecrow explained that she had been stuffed
with straw and had no brains and wished for some. Dorothy told the scarecrow of the wizard and
invited her to their journey which the scarecrow accepted.
Narrator: Soon they came to a patch of trees and as they walked they heard a noise. In the middle
of the trees was a man made of tin.

Tinman: Please help

Dorothy: Did you say something?

Tinman: Yes! Help me get up.

Tinman: I’d have stayed here forever if you hadn’t come along. What are you doing here?

Narrator: Dorothy told him of the wizard and the tinman was curious, so he decided to come
along.

Narrator: The three traveled for many miles and finally came to a thickly wooded forest where a
loud roar was heard. The next moment a fierce lion came and leaped. The lion opened his mouth
and Dorothy came to stop him.

Dorothy: You big beast! You’re nothing but a big coward.

Lion: I know I’m a coward, but I can’t help it.

Dorothy: Please don’t cry. I’m sorry. I just can’t understand how a great Lion like you is a
coward.

Narrator: The lion explained how he was born that way and he wished for more courage.
Dorothy told him about the wizard and so the lion joined them in their journey.

D/S/T/L: We are off to see the Wizard of Oz

Narrator: At last they have arrived to Emerald City. They came to the palace of Oz and asked to
see the wizard. The guards escorted them and took them to the wizard.

Wizard: I am the great Wizard. Why have you come?

Dorothy: I want to go home to Kansas.

Narrator: The Wizard solemnly told the four that he could not help them unless they brought him
the broomstick of the last evil witch, the Wicked Witch of the West. The guards told them how
to get to the witch and how to defeat her. Now the wicked witch had one eye, but it was as
powerful as a telescope. She saw Dorothy and noticed the red shoes. Not long enough, Dorothy
arrived in the wicked witch’s palace .

Wicked Witch: Give me those shoes!

Dorothy: No! They’re mine.

Wicked Witch: If you don’t give me those shoes, I will kill you.

Narrator: One hour passed and the Witch returned. She was not aware that the Lion, Scarecrow,
and Tin Man had climbed over the outside wall. The wicked witch attacked the three and while
the witch was distracted, Dorothy grabbed a pail of water and threw it on the witch. The witch
slowly began to shrink away. Dorothy saw the witch’s broom and picked it up. And they
returned to the Wizard of Oz.

Wizard: I’m happy to see you! Do you have the witch’s broom?

Dorothy: Yes! We also killed the wicked witch.

Narrator: The news of the Wicked Witch’s death quickly spread throughout the Emerald City
and there was great merriment and rejoicing. The Wizard called Dorothy and her friends in to
grant their wishes. After the wizard was done granting the wishes of the lion, scarecrow, and
tinman, it was Dorothy’s turn.

Wizard: you could have gone back home a long time ago if you knew the magic you had.

Dorothy: What do you mean?

Wizard: Those red shoes will take you home. All you need to do is click your heels together
three times.

Narrator: Dorothy cried as she kissed her friends good-bye. Then she clicked the heels of her
shoes together three times.
