GEE 104 – Foreign Language

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This is a three (3) unit course that includes learning Japanese alphabets (Hiragana and
Katakana) and vocabularies. It also deals with understanding basic sentence patterns, grammar,
and translation. A small dialogue in the style of a question and answer is given to show how
the sentence patterns are used in practical conversation. This is also an output- based course
with the application of concepts through simple conversations. The conversations include
everyday expressions and greetings.

Total Learning Time: 3 hours per week (1 week)

OVERVIEW

This module covers topics like vocabularies, translations and conversations.


Vocabularies like go, come, go home/return, school, supermarket, train station, airplane, ship,
electric train, bullet train, bus, taxi, bicycle, on foot, person/people, friend, he/boyfriend/lover,
she/girlfriend/lover, family, alone/by oneself, last week, this week, next week, last month, this
month, next month, last year, this year, next year, -th month of the year, what month, days of
the month, when, birthday, next, you’re welcome, etc. Translations on the other hand, include
sentence patterns and example sentences. In addition, practical conversation is added to
supplement learning.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of this module, the students are expected to:

1. identify/enumerate the vocabularies being studied


2. translate English words/sentences to Japanese
3. answer questions in Japanese
4. engage in practical conversation using the vocabularies learned
