2. Organizational Mission – This is the organization’s reason for existence. The

mission statement is a means to share the goal of an organization. It
communicates what is important to and the direction of the organization.
Also, it projects its organizational competencies.

Organizational mission is the purpose for which the organization exists.

The firms organizational mission reflects such information as what types of
products or services it produces, who its customers tend to be, and what
important values it holds.

Mission statements are an incredibly important navigational tool when

you are thinking about the future of your company. By identifying the purpose of
your work, you can better understand the goals your company should be
committed to accomplishing. The mission statement is the bedrock of any
organization.

A mission statement communicates the organization’s reason for being,

and how it aims to serve its key stakeholders. Customers, employees, and
investors are the stakeholders most often emphasized, but other
stakeholders like government or communities (i.e., in the form of social or
environmental impact) can also be discussed. Mission statements are often longer
than vision statements.
3. Organizational Vision – This is organization’s picture of the future. This is
a set of ideas and principles that the organization holds on to.

A vision statement is a future-oriented declaration of the

organization’s purpose and aspirations. In many ways, you can say that the
mission statement lays out the organization’s “purpose for being,” and the
vision statement then says, “based on that purpose, this is what we want to
become.”

A vision is a clear, comprehensive ‘photograph’ of an organization at some

point in the future. It provides direction because it describes what the
organization needs to be like, to be successful within the future. A vision
describes the WHAT. i.e. what you are trying to achieve in the future.

The vision statement is a narrower, future-oriented declaration of the

organization’s purpose to stakeholders, and inform the goals and objectives
set to determine whether the strategy is on track.

Organizational image represents the net cognitive reactions and associations of

customers, investors, employees, and applicants to an organization’s name.
Accordingly, it serves as a template to categorize, store, and recall organization-
related information.

5. Guiding Principles – These are the organization’s beliefs and philosophy

concerning what the organization does, why it does it, and how it does it.

A key ingredient in the planning stage is to determine a set of guiding

principles. Guiding principles are simple rules or value statements that help
project teams make decisions when they are faced with a choice or when
disagreements arise.
Clear, well-written guiding principles aid team in making directionally-
correct decisions more quickly and with greater anatomy. Guiding principles can
help manage scope as they may lead work groups to exclude certain functionality
or to leave a process ‘as is’.
