Now the US government has designated nearly half a million square kilometres in Alaska as critical
habitats for the polar bear. It covers an area of roughly twice the size of the United Kingdom, and it
means any proposed economic activity there, must be weighed against its impact on the bears'
habitat. It includes some of the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas, exactly where the oil company, Shell,
wants to drill.
The designation itself doesn't ban oil exploration, but it adds extra hurdles that opponents say will
harm the economy. Environmentalists welcome the move, saying now they can write a recovery plan
for polar bears, not an obituary.

This British biotech company Venomtech believes for instance it could lead to a new generation of
drugs to protect us against the superbugs. New antibiotics are desperately needed if medicine is to
continue to work.
In a world where bacteria cannot be fought off, a string of the most simple surgical procedures
become risky. Steve Trim is the Managing director of Venomtech :"We have a unique collection of
chemists that actually sit in our enclosures and make the venoms for us that the pharmaceuticals
companies just don't have access to. So we're able to show them you know, here's some useful
chemicals, perhaps some of them you could take on to make a new therapeutic and hopefully to kick
start this area."
The report also proposes doctors should be compelled to perform diagnostic tests on patients before
prescribing any antibiotic drugs.
If nothing is done, it is projected drug resistance will not just cause 10 million deaths each year by
2050, it will also hit the world's economies, costing more than 88 trillion euros in lost output,
according to some experts.

His most famous discovery though is probably gravity. One day Newton saw an apple fall off a tree.
He realized that the force that made the apple fall to the ground was the same force that made the
moon travel around the Earth. He called this force gravity and this brilliant idea changed the way we
look at the world.
Later in his life, Newton gave up scientific research. He never really returned to Woolsthorpe. In
1696, he left Cambridge and went to work for the government in London. He died there in 1727.

CEVAP ANAHTARI:
But the statistics indicate that most women live longer than most
men, that they have better chance of resisting disease, that they
can beat men at operations requiring finger dexterity and the
ability to work accurately under monotonous conditions. On this kind of proof it would be legitimate
to argue that women are stronger than men.
The truth is that each sex can surpass the other in certain kinds of activities. To say that one is
stronger than the other is to indulge in an argument that would arise if the word "stronger" were
more sharply defined.

Don't be under any illusions – you are likely to find your delay refund request will itself be subject to
delays. After three delayed journeys in a fortnight, my first step was filling out an online form on the
Chiltern Railways website. I was required to enter my name, address, journey details and other
personal information. So far, so good.
But then I had to upload a photo of my season ticket and it started to get tricky. First, I was told the
photo I snapped on my mobile phone was not in the correct format. Then it was too big. In fact, so
fussy was the system I needed the help of a more technologically gifted colleague to navigate it. But I
finally did it and Chiltern Railways had to give me a refund. For me it was worth the effort.

B: Personally, I think it’s fascinating to consider how we’ll speed up our evolution as a species by
augmenting our bodies. Imagine if you could implant a computer inside our brain! Soon we’ll be able
to do just that and enhance our mathematical ability, audiovisual perception and our memory, and
this idea is only going to become more and more commonplace. AI is also popping up in the world
around us. Recent developments include self-driving cars and drones carrying life-saving equipment
to people at sea. Granted, there have been a few teething problems: one woman who was asleep on
the floor had her hair eaten by her robot vacuum cleaner and there have been fatal accidents with
self-driving cars. But progress always comes at a cost, and for me the advantages far outweigh the
disadvantages.

The most illustrative case study of the influence of the telegraph on diplomacy was the 1914
July crisis that led to the beginning of the World War I. Telegraph messages were being sent
between St. Petersburg, Berlin, Belgrade, Vienna, Paris and other countries involved in the
conflict. However, there was little awareness of how to use the telegraph properly. The Russian
czar sent a conciliatory note to Germany, but the German kaiser had already sent a note that
was not conciliatory at all, thus creating communication confusion and mistrust that contributed
toward escalation and ultimately war. A new technology coupled with human failure led to an
unfortunate outcome.

Intellectual property rights have come under great scrutiny in recent years thanks to the rise of
emerging economies such as China and India. In such countries, regulations and laws on intellectual
property and common standards have proven hard to uphold. As a result, companies have been able
to produce, for example, cheap and unlicensed versions of drugs based on the research and
development of Western pharmacological companies. Although consumers initially welcomed such
projects, there have subsequently been several scares over whether goods produced in these
countries can be trusted. For instance, some counterfeit drugs produced in China have turned out to
have no effect, or even to be harmful. Hence, there must be strict regulations regarding both the use
and selling of these drugs.
