Syllabus/Component: 0417/02 INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION

Dear Head of Centre

We have received a report of suspected centre staff malpractice involving the confidential exam material
for the Cambridge IGCSE Information and Communication Technology (0417/02) practical exam.

We understand from the information provided that staff at your centre were unable to access the 0417/02
source files and therefore contacted another centre to request access to this. As stated in section 4.3(i)(i)
of the Cambridge Handbook 2022, if there are issues in accessing or receiving confidential exam
materials you should report this to Cambridge International two days before the exam is scheduled to
take place.

Sharing exam material threatens the security of our confidential exam material worldwide and is a serious
breach of our regulations. We understand your centre has both requested and received confidential exam
material from another centre. In requesting confidential material from another centre, the actions of staff
at your centre have caused a serious threat to the security of our confidential exam material. We are
therefore concerned that staff at your centre have behaved in a way that could undermine the security or
integrity of our confidential exam material, which is considered as centre staff malpractice as stated in
section 5.6.2 of the Cambridge Handbook 2022.

We are extremely concerned by this incident and your centre’s failure to report this or provide Cambridge
International with the requested information. Failing to provide information relating to a security breach
has serious consequences for Cambridge International’s ability to investigate these incidents and is a
breach of our regulations as stated in section D9.5 of the Cambridge Handbook 2022.

To assist us in our investigation, please refer to the Cambridge Handbook 2022 section 5.6 Malpractice.
As the Head of Centre you are expected to personally supervise and collect information on our behalf.
Please find attached an Evidence Request Form which details the evidence you are required to collect
and send to us as part of the investigation. You should also collect and send any additional evidence
which you consider relevant to the case.
Please acknowledge receipt of this letter within 2 working days.

As detailed in section 5.6.4 (b) of the Cambridge Handbook 2022, you must send your full response,
including all relevant information and materials in the timescale we specify. However, we understand that
restrictions currently in place due to Covid-19 may mean that some evidence cannot be gathered at this
time. Therefore please provide us with as much of the requested information as possible now and any
further information when you are able. Please note that statements from staff and candidates can be
collected by email.

While the investigation into suspected malpractice is ongoing, we are unable to release the Cambridge
IGCSE Information and Communication Technology (0417) results for the candidates. The results have
been marked as ‘Q’ until the investigation is complete and your centre is provided with an outcome to the
case.

Please be aware that any enquiries about results concerning the candidates listed above in the syllabus
shown cannot be accepted until the suspected malpractice investigation has been completed.

Please contact your Cambridge Associate if you require any assistance.

Yours faithfully

Samantha Aldridge
