Good day! Welcome to Poetria Wonderland, the world of itsy-bitsy-tiny-
winy magical words and phrases. You already have the three ingredients to
make your primera antidote. You still have to gather the last ingredient for you
and Diego to get back into your original sizes. Are you ready for another set of
learning adventure? Great, let’s go!

Today you are going to the Kingdom of Innovitania to get the last
ingredient from a ferocious giant called Otomo. The last ingredient of your
primera antidote is in the necklace of Otomo. No one in the Kingdom of
Innovitania dares to get the Anova from Otomo’s neck. To get the Anova, you
need to challenge Otomo, not in a fistfight but in terms of creating new
techniques in writing poetry.

Don’t worry buddies because in your learning journey today, you are
expected to explore innovative techniques in writing poetry.

To defeat Otomo, you both need to train. So, let’s start your training by
defining the important terms that you will encounter in your today’s learning
journey. Ready? Great!
Direction: Arrange the jumbled letters on COLUMN A to reveal the word
that is being defined on COLUMN B. Write your answers in your notebook.

ENGRE Categories used to group different types of

literary work such as non-fiction, fiction, poetry.

SOPKNE YTOEPR A poetry performance meant to be performed

on stage.

LESYT NFOT The design of printable or displayable text

character.

PEDSAH SEREV A poem written to resemble an object.

LOODEL Simple drawings that may have concrete

meaning.
1
Good job! If you scored three (3) and above, you may advance to the
next learning challenge to warm you up. However, if you got only two (2) and
below, you have to try again.

LET’S DOODLE
Direction: Create your own-version of doodle art using your nickname.

What word do you see?

You may have come across to this kind of
art style when you logged in to
Google.com. This particular art is what we
call “DOODLE.” Doodles are simple
drawings that can have concrete
representational meaning or may just be
composed of random and abstract lines,
generally without ever lifting the drawing
device from the paper, in which case it is
usually called a scribble.

You will now create your doodle name art. Draw your name
doodle in your notebook.

In making your doodle, you may first consider the following criteria in rating
your work:
Color Harmony (Use of vivid colors) - 15pts.
Artistry (Smart use of lines and graphics) - 10pts.
Visual Impact - 5pts.
TOTAL 30pts.

2
On to your next part of the training, you need to learn more on what are the
new innovative techniques in writing poetry. Let’s go!

Just like language, poetry is fluid and alive. It evolves, breaks the rules
and turns into something new. Just as scientists have thought about
experiments and inventions, writers participate in experimental literature.

EXPERIMENTAL POETRY
It is a product of modernist and post-modernist poetry.
What is
EXPERIMENTAL It explores and emphasizes innovation.
POETRY?
The words follow their own form rather than standard.

Sometimes disregards rules related to language & function.

Reading experimental poetry is like listening to impromptu freestyle

jazz. The words are original, daring and sometimes stunning. The
forms are MORE ORGANIC, LOOSE AND SPONTANEOUS, as the words
are a product of the subject and the poet’s feelings as he/she writes.
The words are often the first thoughts, the best thoughts.

TYPOGRAPHY
Typography is the art and technique of arranging letters and text in a
way that makes the copy legible, clear and visually appearing to the reader.

Typography involves FONT STYLE, APPEARANCE, and STRUCTURE which

aims to elicit certain emotions and convey specific messages.

Layout artists have a good eye on typography. It takes a hundred look

before they come up with their final layout. But in our case, whatever seem
to look good in our eyes is already commendable. See the difference?

GENRE-CROSSING TEXT
PROSE POETRY, CONCRETE POETRY, PERFORMANCE POETRY

Different genres have different roles. For

example, fiction and dramatic genres help students and
writers learn and improve their communication skills. A poetic
genre, on the other hand, enhances imaginative and
emotional power of the readers. Non-fictional texts and
essays help readers develop analytical and persuasive
capabilities. However, the major function of genre is to
establish a code of behavior between the writers and
audience, and keep the readers informed about the topics
discussed or the themes presented.

PROSE POETRY
It is defined as a variation of free verse that embodies the contemporary
poets’ yearning for a more flexible medium of expression. It is a hybrid literary
form since it utilizes elements and attributes that are associated with both prose
and poetry.
Prose poetry shares with prose the characteristics of being written in
sentences and paragraphs. In short, prose poetry is a poetry that is not
composed in verse but contains other poetic qualities like rhythm, figures of
speech, voice and tone as well as mood and atmosphere.
Here’s an example of prose poetry.
MY DREAM
By Terry McArdle
My name is Terry. I’m from Ireland where the grass is so
green and the countryside is so breathtaking.
I came to the US in September of 1992 for a vacation
because I was curious. I decided to go home and get a job
to make more money to come back to the States. My
ambition was to get more out of life.
The States has a lot of opportunity for young people. It
gave me the inspiration to be around people who were able
to read and write. I wanted to help myself. It was a great
experience to have help with my reading and writing.

4
CONCRETE POETRY
Is a form of poetry that deploys visual and typographical effects, like the
shape of words, letters or symbols as they appear on the page as an image, in
addition to or instead of the usual conventions of versification, like rhyme,
meter and stanza divisions. It is also known as SHAPED VERSE, VISUAL POETRY
OR PATTERNED POETRY.
Here are some examples of concrete poetry.

Based on the given examples, what patterns can you see? Is it a tree? A
dolphin? Great! That is correct!

PERFORMANCE POETRY
This is a post-modern art form, a hybrid genre that combines literary and
dramatic elements. The performance poetry utilizes the theatrical stage as if it
were the printed page. Performance poetry as a literary cum dramatic
movement is also known as SPOKEN WORD OR POETRY SLAM.

The important thing to remember is the

actual face to face encounter between the
poet-performer and his or her audience, the
reactions evoked by their direct encounter with
one another, and the resulting immediate
community-building, which does not occur in
traditional print-based poetry.

5
It seems like both of you are already ready to challenge Otomo in
creating innovative techniques in creative writing. Answer the following tasks
and make sure to have a passing score. Ready? Great!

into the possible combinations below to help you decide in choosing your
perfect combination. You may write your output either in stanza or paragraph

POSTER POEM

your poem inside your shape template. You may use any font style and font
sizes in writing your poem. Use a separate sheet of long sized bond paper for
your output. This will compiled in your portfolio.

To remember our lesson better, let us synthesize.

Experimental poetry does not necessarily break the
rules. It has its own borders and boundaries. Rather than
having an antagonistic engagement with literature, it is
indeed an alternative engagement with convention.
There’s nothing wrong with a little experimentation. Grab
a pen and see what words flow from your fingers.

Congratulations! You won against Otomo by having a series of passing

scores in your activities. Now, your four ingredients to make your primera
antidote is complete.
The nectrum from the Land of Strophee,
The terminix from the Conventum Colony of Redant,
The fritzion from the Frireirah of Frenzy’s shell, and lastly
The anova from the Kingdom of Innovitania

All the ingredients once combined will form the primera antidote that
will transform you and Diego back to their normal size.

After performing all the procedures….

9
The four ingredients were polymerized and behold! When they both
opened their eyes, they found themselves inside the cave of Poetria in
Wonderland. They both find it queer despite following the steps and mixing the
correct ingredients, still they haven’t find their way out of Poetria in
Wonderland.
Maybe they still have some unfinished learning journey in the realm of
Poetria. Let’s find out what will happen next to them in Poetria Wonderland.
