Social Phenomenon Pros and Cons for Vaccination

In order to realize communal immunity or what is popularly known as herd immunity,

the government continues to intensify and accelerate the national Covid-19 vaccination
program. However, amid the government's efforts, at the central and regional levels, to
increase the vaccination target, there are still people who are reluctant to get vaccinated.
Seeing the many differences of opinion in the community regarding vaccine policies as a
provision when accessing or visiting public activities, some of them think that this method is
inconvenient for several parties because a person must be in excellent condition when
vaccines are administered. On another side, some anti-vaccine communities say that vaccines
cause a person to contract a new disease that threatens the safety of his life.
Various reasons were given, ranging from not believing in the existence of the
Coronavirus, doubts about the efficacy (efficacy) of the vaccine, to fears of Post-
Immunization Follow-up Events. then after conducting many tests and then expert doctors
concluded that the purpose of vaccination is to reduce transmission or transmission. We can't
stop transmission, but we can at least reduce transmission.
Vaccination or immunization aims to make a person's immune system able to
recognize and quickly fight bacteria or viruses that cause infection. The goal to be achieved
by administering the COVID-19 vaccine is to reduce the morbidity and mortality rates from
this virus. Although it is not 100% able to protect someone from Coronavirus infection, this
vaccine can reduce the possibility of severe symptoms and complications due to COVID-19.
In addition, the COVID-19 vaccination aims to encourage the formation of herd immunity or
group immunity. This is important because there are some people who cannot be vaccinated
for certain reasons. People who are not recommended to receive the vaccine or are not a
priority for the COVID-19 vaccine include children or adolescents under 18 years of age and
people who suffer from certain diseases, such as diabetes or uncontrolled hypertension.
Increased Crime During the Coronavirus pandemic
The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused some people to
lose their jobs unexpectedly. This has led to an increase in crime in Indonesia during the
COVID-19 pandemic. Losing their jobs causes them to take shortcuts to earn income to
support their families, then coupled with the policy of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights
which released approximately 30,000 prisoners. The consideration is to prevent the spread of
the virus in prisons and correctional institutions. Moreover, several detention centers and
correctional institutions have experienced overcapacity, of course, this is not in accordance
with the health protocol for handling the Covid-19 pandemic.
However, the policy of releasing convicts through the assimilation program has
actually created new problems in society, namely increased crime, even though an area is
under PSBB status. There are several types of crimes committed by assimilation inmates,
such as theft, motor vehicle theft, theft with violence, mugging, to beheading. The
consequences of the Corona Virus Pandemic have not only had an impact on the health sector
but also on the social and economic fields in the community.
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, some residents are experiencing quite serious
economic problems, namely the loss of jobs due to the reduction of employees by several
companies affected by the pandemic. There are several factors related to the increase in
criminal acts and someone committing the crime, namely the first is the economic factor. The
economic factor is the strongest motivating factor for someone to commit a crime. The
second is the social environmental factor. Individual or group social environmental factors
that are formed will encourage individual behavior in making decisions to commit criminal
acts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
