ASSIGNMENT (writing)- in groups of five/six

·       You need to form a group consisting of five members.

·       The group members can be from your own or different regional centre (pusat
wilayah).

·       Students will be evaluated according to the Rubric which is included in this

document.

·       INSTRUCTIONS: Write an essay on ONE of the following topics

i- The benefits of being a multilingual

ii- Rebuilding trust in a relationship

iii- The influence of advertisements on the youths

iv- The use of technological devices in education

·       FORMAT:

i-                     Must be around 1000 words

ii-                   The essay must be typed on a computer using Times New Roman, font
size 12, and a line spacing of 2.0 (double spacing).

·       STRUCTURE

i-                     Technically, the assignment should be as good as possible and well

organized.

ii-                   The following division is the most common way to structure an essay:

Introduction, Body, and Conclusion.

iii-                  The introduction part must have a thesis statement (specific statements

on what will you cover in your essay) and is normally written at the end of the
introduction paragraph.

iv-                 The body part must have a few paragraphs each with topic sentences
(main idea of the entire paragraph) that support or explain the thesis statement you
previously wrote.
v-                   The conclusion part can summarise all your points (the topic sentences
you previously wrote) and your own point of view on the topic or the arguments you
presented earlier.

vi-                 An essay must have a clear and coherent structure and be written in
proper academic language.

·       RULES ABOUT CHEATING AND PLAGIARISM

i-                     No marks will be given for copying from other sources or using the
ideas or work of other students/groups.

ii-                   Please be as honest as possible.

·       SUBMISSION

i-                     Please hand in your assignment to the School of Distance Education,

USM by hand or by post. (HARDCOPY ONLY)
