SUMMARY OF DEEPWATER HORIZON

At the beginning of the film, shots show cracks appearing at the bottom of Deepwater Horizon;
the beginning of a massive accident.

We're then introduced to chief technical engineer Mike Williams, his supervisor James,
navigation officer Andrea, etc. As they head to the rig for their regular duties, they don't know
what fate awaits them. It has become difficult for the crew to comply with changes to safety
measures because of corporate changes in the rig.

The owners of the rig demand that their staff carry out multiple pressure tests that may be
hazardous to the rig. Despite the warnings of the technicians, they keep testing, until the pressure
goes over the limit and an oil explosion destroys the entire rig.

The main character along with the workers on the rig try their best to escape as the rig goes up in
flames. There are many casualties from the accident.

5 equipment on board :

1. Traveling block
A traveling block is the freely moving section of a block and tackle that contains a set of
pulleys or sheaves through which the drill line is threaded or reeved and is opposite the
crown block .

2. Drill line
In a drilling rig, the drill line is a multi-thread, twisted wire rope that is threaded or
reeved through in typically 6 to 12 parts between the traveling block and crown block to
facilitate the lowering and lifting of the drill string into and out of the wellbore.

3. Derrick
A derrick is a lifting device composed at minimum of one guyed mast, as in a gin pole,
which may be articulated over a load by adjusting its guys. Most derricks have at least
two components, either a guyed mast or self-supporting tower, and a boom hinged at its
base to provide articulation, as in a stiffleg derrick.

4. Mud tank
A mud tank is an open-top container, typically made of square steel tube and steel plate,
to store drilling fluid on a drilling rig. They are also called mud pits, as they were once
simple pits in the earth.

5. Mud pump
A mud pump is a reciprocating piston/plunger pump designed to circulate drilling fluid
under high pressure (up to 7,500 psi or 52,000 kPa) down the drill string and back up the
annulus. A mud pump is an important part of the equipment used for oil well drilling.
