My name is Abigail Margaret Ruble. I am 18 years old and my birthday is February 17th, 2004.

I
have one older sister whose name is Olivia. She attends Columbia University in New York and I
miss her a lot. She's only a year older than me so we're pretty close. I have a mom and a dad,
Melissa Anne and Nathan Paul. My mom is four years older than my dad I think about that
sometimes because I think that age gaps are interesting. They're divorced and used to not get
along at all but as we've (my sister and I) have gotten older they've gotten better at tolerating
each other. My mom is remarried and I don't like my step family. I try to stay away from them as
much as possible because they make me feel alienated within my own home. I typically use
she/her pronouns but I kind of want to experiment with they/them. I think that they're more
inclusive of how I feel sometimes.
My grandparents are basically my whole world besides my dogs and cats. My dad’s mom is
Pamela Jean and his dad is Thomas Joseph but my grandma calls him Tommy Joe and I think
they’re really cute. Pam loves to do yoga and I’ll go with her sometimes if I’m feeling stretchy.
YOGA IS SO HARD! I DON’T KNOW HOW SHE DOES IT! She is a retired English as a
Second Language teacher and my grandpa (tom) is a retired lawyer. My mom’s mom is Anne
Marie and her dad is Emmett Allen, he always went by Al though. He died in between my 3rd and
4th grade year. My grandma Anne was an elementary school teacher and she will still go sub at
schools sometimes. My grandpa was an art teacher at a school for many many years and his art
was always incredible.
I am an English major but if I could do anything in the world it would exploratory archeology. I
am fascinated by the fact that so many of the great Egyptian rulers are buried in tombs and we
don’t know where they are. I don’t want to really disturb the tombs because I want them to be
preserved and maybe taken to museums but ones in Egypt. I don’t want them taken out of the
country because that’s bullshit. I got more interested in archeology this past school year because
I was watching the show Moon Knight. It is so incredibly good. It’s on Disney+ and if you
haven’t watched it I would definitely recommend checking it out. I also got into the idea of
archeology while doing a project for my AP Literature class this past spring. We got to redesign
the curriculum for one of the grade levels within my school district and we chose AP Language
and Composition, which is the 11th grade AP English class. When redesigning it one of the books
that I proposed was Antony and Cleopatra by William Shakespeare because I find their story so
interesting. I consider them to be one of the first iterations of star crossed lovers and that’s really
cool to me.
I don’t tend to talk about it much unless asked but I love to talk about it when I am asked. It just
fully makes me want to spend hours researching and exploring. Cairo is one of my dream
destinations to visit and I can’t imagine how cool it would be to live there. I love seeing and
experiencing different cultures and that is one that I want to be fully immersed into.
Something that I like when people notice is that I have some parts of my hair right now that are
green. My mom hates it and I love it, so I guess I win? I don’t really know I just thought it was
fun to do for the summer but it has been taking forever to wash out, which I’m fine with. I like
when my friends call me funny. I always thought that I made good jokes but that they never
really landed and since being at college I get told all of the time that I’m really funny and that
feels good to me. I like being liked and making people laugh. I like seeing the smiles on their
faces.
