Social Studies Alive!.
Evidence:
I taught an entire unit on
Native Americans to a
class of 5th grade
students.
Reflection:
Not having @ mentor to lean on made
this unit daunting, so I made sure to
prepare adequately. Reading ahead and
Narrative highlighting/taking notes for myself
I had to get to know the content allowed me to get to know the content
of the Native Americans unit in and out, especially since I nad
pretty well, seeing es I taught
it by myself, without assistance
fron a nentor teacher. To help
myself prepare to teach the
never taught 5th grade social studies
before. By reflecting on the Michigan
Common Core Standards often, I was
_ read the text, able to ensure my lessons focused on
highlighted important concepts deemed really important and
information fram the text, and it allowed me to have sone wiggle room
took my own personal notes on with less important information if 1
key concepts within the tex:. I
needed to cut anything out. I also
walked myself through parts of the
activities the text incorporated so
would refer to the Michigan
Common core Standards to help
determine the concepts I needed
to focus on most. If I did not that I knew what to expect. It helped
undarstené something in the no to undorstand what takeaways tho
toxt, I lcoked it up to ensure students should have at the end of the
had a streng enough grasp on it activities. it helped me prepare for
before I taught it, I also
looked into all of the in-text
activities and did a brief tria
run of them before attempting it
with students
potential issues students could have
or for questions they might ask me,
which was essential to my feeling good
about each lesson.
